Official MIT Class of 2012 Early Action Decisions Thread

Hey guys, it’s now officially less than 24 hours until most of us hear back from the best school in the world. If you’ve looked at past decisions threads, you know the drill- erase all the spaces in the brackets, and fill in the form to the best of your ability, even if the result wasn’t what you were hoping for. Keep in mind that you filling this out now will greatly help next year’s applicants (and on that note, update your Stats Profiles, too).

Best of luck to all. Que sera, sera- it will all work out for the best.

(The existence of this thread scared the $hit out of me.)

So ducktape where did you get in with those stats? At the South Harmon Institute of Technology (S.H.I.T)?

i can't believe this is up lol... 21 hours...

Note to everyone: Yes, you are stressed. Yes, there's only 67700 seconds until decisions come out. No, you should not suddenly swarm this thread tonight discussing how stressed you are and how many seconds remain (people above me, you're fine and I like you. I'm just trying to prevent the inevitable tonight).

Go hang out with friends and eat chocolate and get a good night's sleep. Seriously. You will live, and at this point your decision is definitely already decided.

This is all for me until I post whether I'm accepted tomorrow- over and out, and best of luck to everyone tomorrow come noon.

Hey guys, Class of 2011 here. Just wanted to say good luck!

last post for me tonight too - everyone on this forum is amazing and will definitely get into a college that they'll be happy at! just be proud of yourself for what you've accomplished thus far :)

sleep is a really good way to pass time lol

k, gonna get off cc now (except maybe to scope the yale/stanford decision threads haha)

I love MIT, but I'm certainly off its "beaten track" (does it have one?), I suppose. My strengths lie not in Math or Science, but in social sciences and languages. I'm going for Urban Planning -- a field which combines my competence in a lot of areas, and I've expressed my passion for linguistics (I've written my own language!) I'm a solid B student in math and science though (although I did pull myself up to higher grades than that in Math last year, Calc AB, and I got an A+ for the year in AP Physics...) I've also worked as a computer technician, and long held a hobbyist fascination in this area.

I pray MIT can see past the numbers, see me fit and qualified to do the GIRs, and maybe, just maybe, on a hope and a prayer, admit me, because I feel like my passion in my field(s) befits an MIT student like no other. I care about learning, problems, and solutions, as well as the mechanisms and models by which they are created.

We shall see. That's my story.

I hope they can look past certain numbers, because some of mine are not stellar. I think my unweighted GPA is in the mid threes. And my SAT is surprisingly not perfect (though still well enough above average).

My sell is solid IB and IB Prep courses (I.E., AP courses) for years running...and hopefully, my writing. We'll see, eh?

'Course, I don't expect to get in, but whatever.

k, so who else is staying up cause they can't sleep?

A little more than half an hour. Man, I hope I get in, it would make my rejection from Caltech a little less painful.

i didn't even apply early decision. i just want look at a new batch of stats! URM's please post ESPECIALLY if you were rejected...

rejected. (10 char)

deferred....

Where can I check? Is it the standard MIT admission login?

OMG I GOT IN!!!

must go cry and scream

Omg!!!!! I Got In!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:) :) :)

Deferred -ah well, now I actually have to work on other apps :(

deferred..... haha even i have to work now =/

Rejected too

Dear )@#($)(@#$,

The Admissions Committee has completed its review of your application and I am very sorry to tell you that we are unable to offer you admission to MIT.

This year we had more than 3,900 Early Action applications for just 500 offers of admission. We expect to have a large increase in Regular Action applications as well, so this year is truly the most competitive ever at MIT. Please keep in mind that most of our applicants are exceptional students, who are not offered admission simply because we do not have enough space in our entering class.

I wish you the very best in all of your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Stuart Schmill
Interim Dean of Admissions
