<p>^ Yes, you can definitely get declined. MIT Admissions only defers applicants who they think are competitive for regular admissions. (Granted, this is large number - but by no means is deferral a soft rejection at MIT.)</p>

<p>Yea, I’m sorry to kdlaace. I know I would feel horrible too if I got rejected cause I have loved the school too for a long time. It’s ok. You just have to pick yourself up and realize that even though you love it so much, you’ll end up loving wherever you go. I wish you good luck in all that happens!</p>

<p>ugh. This sucks… deferred. Thought I had pretty good stats, but I guess my essays and not submitting my ACT did me in. Now it’s just the waiting game…</p>

<p>i know several students who were accepted… observation: over half were recruited.</p>
<p>The only person I know personally that was accepted was a recruited athlete…</p>
<p>One thing I found interesting looking at the decisions thread is that there was a 3x USAMO qualifier deferred anlong with someone who had a 3.74 GPA. Now I’ll admit that I don’t their application in front of me but… </p>
<p>If anyone needs more evidence that HYPSM admissions are crapshoots, this is it.</p>
