I know its impossible for adcoms to tell us why we ere deferred, rejected or accepted (not only to defend against getting sued but also because I’m sure its hard to describe beyond I liked your personality) but I think it would still be cool.

Hmm… I was surprised I was accepted. It looked like this year was going to be a very difficult year for EA/ED at any selective school.
I thought I was destined to not get in. EA/ED acceptance rate at my school is unusually low this year and my mailbox can’t fit a tube!

how do you know if you were deferred or rejected?

Edit: nvm 10char

Some interesting people were accepted this year.

Programming, baking, founding clubs…hahaha all these applicants continue to amaze me! I’m glad I was at least deferred :)

@lach123: If you applied ED to Rice and were accepted, then you have NO decision to make! You must attend Rice.

i think rice has a policy that if you withdraw by jan 2 you may go elsewhere. but that is something you should check, lach, because if rice is truly binding you must go to rice.

i wonder when the tube is coming…

^95th percentile? Surely not…
Note to mollie: I know you’re going to delete this and I’m fine with that, but that part of the post should be corrected by the poster first :)

Since we don’t do ranking, they apparently calculated with GPAs instead?
5% of kids have 4.0 ==> 95th percentile…I think…

Well by percentile they mean ‘rank to the nearest percentile’. So if I’m 10th of a class of 100 students, it makes me in the top 10% of the class. So I guess you’re somewhere in the top 5%.

Fair enough.
…except the edit button has mysteriously disappeared? What?

From the Rice website ([Rice University | Prospective Students](http://www.futureowls.rice.edu/futureowls/Decision_Plans.asp?SnID=2):)

“If you know that Rice is your first choice and you would like to complete the process early, consider the Early Decision Plan. Your application must be submitted by November 1, and we will notify you by December 15. This is a binding decision plan; you may initiate applications to other colleges but may make an Early Decision application to one college only. Three decisions are possible under this plan: accept, defer, or deny. If accepted to Rice under Early Decision, by January 2 you must commit to Rice and withdraw all other college applications, or you must withdraw your application to Rice.”

That’s a really interesting policy. I’ve never heard of another school doing such a thing.

^We can only edit our posts for the first (I think it’s) 20 minutes after posting. That’s okay, though, whitefang. I think just about everybody will know what you meant. I did when I read it. Just like on the SAT, or what have you, if you’re told you’re in the 99th percentile, you scored better than 99% of the kids. People will get it.

I haven’t been deleting posts, just moving them to this thread, as it says on page 1 of the decisions thread.

Hey guys, did any of you who got accepted recieve any info on financial aid, because I got nothing on that

^Financial aid info doesn’t come until mid-March. The forms aren’t due until February 15.

Alright I spent 1 hour today in the supermarket looking at every object in the baking section to see if they might be useful in cookie making. I’m aiming for good chocolate chip cookies. I think I got all the supplies necessary for this project. I also introduced several variables that I can experiment with to test out whether they taste good or not… and am in the process of enlisting test subjects…

I’ll post back on how the cookies turn out.
