Official MIT Fall 2012 Transfer Thread

This is a space for all of the potential transfer to get to know one another and share in this part of our journey.

I am a somewhat non-traditional community college student hoping to transfer into Course 2-A (Mechanical Engineering with an open focus) and continue my studies on combustion or hybrid technology. MIT has a great mix on theoretical and hands-on opportunities that will greatly benefit my career. I also think my quirky sense of humor will be right at home at the school.

What about you? Why do you want to transfer to MIT?

Because math and science are beautiful. Specifically physics…

and MIT is amazing.

lol

the decisions are just released. Rejected. So sad.

Me too. It was my top choice.

Sorry guys. Hugs. Everything will be okay.

Result: Rejected

I have tried my best, life moves on. Congratulations to those who get in!

Sorry to hear guys.
… It’d be interesting if more people (Accepted or declined) could post their stats. Best of luck!

Decision: Rejected
I thought I had almost everything and gave it my best on the essays. But whatever, I only lost money and some time.

Rejected as well…

College GPA: 3.98/4.00
HS GPA: 3.89/4.00
SAT II: 800, 800
SAT I: 670/760/700

EC: -Astrophysics Research at UCI
-Publications on amateur astronomer research
-Volunteer work as a tutor
-Astrophotography (I actually sent them pictures)
-Physics Club Founder/President
-etc…

It was my top choice too… So sad…

lol we were all rejected. I didn’t expect to get in. I’m hoping Berkeley takes me.

Rejected as well, but considering how few transfers MIT takes, I wasn’t surprised at all.

Quick stats:

MechE major
4.00 College GPA with all possible lower division course taken

Pro car racing internship (field I will specialize in)

Internship at Naval research facility working with technology for my career

Significant life issue overcome

Decent SAT’s with big improvement shown on SAT II’s

Amazing letter of rec from chair of engineering at my current college, a former MIT alum. He said I was one the top student in his 10 years of teaching in terms of a mix of intelligence, hard work, and maturity.

Rejected here as well. I didn’t get my hopes up too high this time around though.

ChemE major
College GPA: 4.00
HS GPA: 3.9-ish?

Volunteer Research Assistant in particle physics.
Founder of organization similar to TED.
AIChE member + bunch of honor societies
Recs were from past professors, all science and mathematics; overall, I thought they were great.
Additional recs were from high school teachers who I’ve made an impression on.

Chin up, chaps. MIT is the means, not the destination.

@Der3k7. Hey! I applied there too!

Really? Cool. Are you from cali? I’m from cali but moved to AZ 2 years ago so I have to apply from OOS. Thankfully, since I graduated and went to high school in cali all 4 years I can get exempt from OOS tuition.

No I’m not from California. Hopefully everything works out. Good luck.
