Official Morrill Scholars Program Class of 2015

To all who are applying for the Morrill Scholars Program, I thought it would be good to have a thread where people can ask or answer questions about the scholarship.

First question: where do you find your osu id number that is required on the application form? I just submitted my app to OSU.

I can answer that question. It will be sent to you via email. It took my son about 3 days to get his, although the website said it could take a week.

My question- reading over the essay question- How likely is it that a white low social economic student (but not free/reduced lunch) be named a scholarship recipient?

My daughter is a freshman. Last year you had to get an invite to apply, and she is white with free lunches-she didn’t get to apply. I thought that if you weren’t an underrepresented minority you had to live in Appalachia to apply.

Who else thinks the word limit is tooooo small? I finished my essay with 1200 words argghhhh

I agree the word limit is too small. Also, the deadline is soon, but I received an email telling me I havent submitted the app yet :frowning: I submitted it in late October, anyone else having this problem?

they fumbled with my transcripts until I called and got it figured out. but i agree, 500 words is wayyy too small, but I’m happy I got it to 500 EXACTLY and am submitting it tomorrow!

they fumbled you’re transcripts for what? I thought the MSP got your transcripts from the admissions office after you were accepted? I am just wondering because I don’t want the same thing to happen to me.

I wanted to know, would my application be considered incomplete if I submit it before my counselor finishes his part? Can he go back in and edit his part after I submit?

If I remember correctly for my DS when he applied last year. It was okay if the counselor part was a little past the deadline; it is extremely important that you get your part (essays) in by the deadline. If you feel that your counselor part can’t be in time then I highly recommend emailing the Morrill coordinator (who I think is Toni Ramirez) and let her know of the delay. My DS’s counselor submitted his paperwork a few days later and she said it was fine since he had done everything else and had alerted her about the delay before the deadline.

Good Luck!!

Hey guys!! So I’m trying to apply online for the MSP, and I am so confused because I have EVERYTHING ready to go, but I can’t submit my application because the recommendation form isn’t turned in!! :frowning: What do I do? I emailed my coordinator and Toni, but I haven’t gotten a response yet!

Does anyone know about notification? Both of my kids had their applications in by Oct 31. They both have been accepted to the University. I read somewhere that if you applied by Oct 31 you might hear your answer by Dec 1. I havent heard anything. Their status says submitted for review. I read on a post from a couple of years ago that at one point it changed to reviewed? They defintely led me to believe that if you submitted early that you would be reviewed early, maybe even the first week of Nov. Any thoughts?

Just have the person who is recommending check their email to make sure they got the link then submit the form.

Mine also says submitted for review, I asked Toni Ramirez and she said I accidentally received the email telling me it wasn’t complete. So what are everyone’s stats that’s applying? Do we know the stats of winners from past years? I have a 4.03 (weighted) 3.8(UW), a 30 ACT, 1310/1600 SAT (writing was 640, so 1950/2400), lots of Extra curriculars/volunteer hours/leadership positions, I thought my essay was great and I believe my counselor recommendation was phenomenal. I’m also Native American, first generation student, etc.

^carmelita, your stats are in line with other recipients I have seen. I think the essay is a big part also. Sounds like you have a great chance! good luck.

I sure hope so! I really want to go to OSU!

@camelita2 you should get accepted. i got accepted with lower stats than you apart from the weighted gpa

" * In order to be eligible for consideration, all MSP candidates must submit an application for admission to Ohio State by the December 1 priority deadline. They must be admitted to Ohio State and have turned in all MSP materials by no later than January 31, 2011. "

So, does that mean, if I applied for Ohio State on December 1st, I am still able to apply for the Morrill Scholars Program by January 31st? I had assumed that this was the case, but were you supposed to apply for MSP on December 1st too?

But then, if I applied on December 1st for OSU admissions, how long does it take to find out if I am eligible for the Morrill Scholars Program? I am not worried about getting admitted to OSU, but if I applied to OSU on December 1st, will I be admitted by January 31st? Haha, sorry, I’m getting confused.

I’m Asian Indian from Maine. I wrote my essay about living in five states, growing up asian indian, living in maine as an asian indian, bunch of stuff. Hopefully I don’t have to be a URM to get the scholarship

that’s really interesting! I wrote mine about what it’s like to be from a non-naitonally recognized small tribe. My great grandfather was a member of AIM and I discussed how it’s motivated me to be involved with ethnic activities.

Getting confused here…we need to send in counselor forms? I thought we needed teacher recs only…? Haha. And guys that sounds like an awesome topic!! Hopefully I’ll get accepted for the scholarship, I REALLY want to go to Ohio State. It’s legitimately my dream school! Absolutely love the campus and my entire family has gone there. Hahaha. :)
