Official Morrill Scholars Program Class of 2015

@alej, my stats are on the first page, i received news of getting the MSP early. I have the full tuition one, but I was told I could possibly receive the full ride one.

Hey. I am very nervous about getting money from the Morrill Scholars Program. I am from Jackson, Mississippi, but originally from Sudan. I wrote my essay about my visits to Sudan and local diversity activities that i am a part of. I have a 3.6 GPA. A few AP/Honors classes. 26 ACT and 1860 SAT. What are my chances of receiving the Prominent scholarship (full tuition for out of staters.) Oh, and i was accepted into Ohio State’s engineering program around January 25th.

premed1212: Be sure to read the following thread:

haha. I realized how old the thread was after i posted. I didn’t think anyone would still be on it, so i posted on this one.

So anyone else receive the Morrill Scholarship besides me?
Btw, I’m going into biology pre-med. Go Bucks!

HI! i got the full tuition morrill this year… and i just interviewed for the full ride last thursday! congrats to everyone that has gotten it!

@tomdt17, also bio pre med… and im doing honors

@ juliean99 Congrats! My interview is this Thursday… Any pointers you could give me would be very helpful!

hmm… it not bad at all! just be yourself and give honest answers. dont be worried at all!! i was and i think it actually hurt me. its a pretty low key, chilled time.

What were your stats juliean99 and tomt17? Is it safe to assume if I didn’t have a call already that I’m not elligible for the full ride one?

2020 SAT I, 750 Bio, 740 Math, 17/235 rank. 3.98. 8 APs, 8 honors. it’s prob not stellar compared to the other applicants but what REALLY got me in was my crazy amount of extracurricular, awards, and leadership positions. and dont assume anything. i know they told me they are interviewing about 50 kids in feb but maybe there will be more. this program is amazing and they really want to help students who deserve it. if you are the type of student they are looking for then you will get it. i got a call early january because i applied as soon as i possibly could.

@ juliean99 Whoa, you’re much better than me! @carmelita3 I got 28 on the ACT, 4.3 g.p.a. unweighted 6 honors and 5 APs. I got an about the award and the interview so maybe check your email and you will find it.

@tom. not at all!! i just realized i put 3.98 when i meant to put 3.89. and thats WEIGHTED. Plus… at the time of my application i only had a 3.75 up to my junior year. and my rank is not that good…

and yeah, the interview stuff def came in an email

I applied for this all the way back in November and have received nothing!

I have 34 ACT, top 2% of my class, extracurriculars and strong essay.

Any ideas why this is??

I am thinking of calling them up.

thechampion, I would definitely make a call. It can’t hurt, and you certainly have the stats to be included in this. You never know what may have inadvertently fallen between the cracks, especially if the rumors of total applications spiking over 30K this year.

champanon, do you have diversity (minority, strong ethnic heritage, etc) to apply to this, or do you live in an Appalachian county in Ohio? That is looked at first. I have many students who apply for this where I work, but the only ones who receive it are those with a very clear diversity aspect or a home residence in an Appalachian county. I’ve never had a student receive this without one of those aspects, even with very high stats, even though they all attend Appalachian county schools (their homes of residence are just over the county line, maybe a 1/2 mile away from it, in a technically non-Appalachian county).

I am asian. Specifically Jordan in the middle east.

I cannot believe I have gotten nothing from Ohio State.

so if i didn’t get invited for an interview, i can only get the excellence now?
what are my chances…i’m asian from maine (no one from my school goes to OSU), 32 ACT, 3.6 unweighted 4.1 weighted (first student to take AP calc as a junior) w/ 6 APs and all honors, yearbook EIC, lots of community service relating to spreading diversity in my community (hindi teacher, founded a club, etc)

@thechampanon Are you sure you did not get anything? Did you check your email? @ avenlea Did you get an email saying that you will be receiving the excellence award? If not, then I’m not sure if you got it because they already sent out notifications for the award and invitations for interviews. @ julie I just finished my interview today, it was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be!

@tom Yay! im glad it went well for you  hope to see you next year, i wonder if they have anything that gets all the MSPs together to meet everyone. are you going to OSU for sure?

Yep, I’ve checked time and time again. Nothing.

My parents are going to the campus to find out why.
