I sent an e-mail to 2 of the colleges I listed in the other thread. With Master’s I e-mailed thru another site; have not heard anything from them yet.

Anyway, let me stop; don’t want to hijack this/your thread.

In response to sunnybaNANA earlier on in the thread who thought that she needed 106 or so credits, this is a different credit system than mt. sac uses. There are semester and quarter credits. UCLA uses quarter credits so you need to multiply that number by (2/3) to find out how many semester credits are equivalent.

hmm i wonder if they’re any honor courses left to even take this late into registration… i need to get back to SA before I get completely screwed over lol

go to your account, log in, click on the “student” tab
in the middle section click on search for classes
look up ur class and it will show if its open/closed/waiting list

Dainese, any clue on petitioning for more classes?

My schedule looks like this so far:
Biol1
Chem40
Spch1A (I know it’s not required for UCLA transfer but find that this class could be useful)
Math180
Eng1A (currently waitlisted in 4th position.)

Thats well over 18 units right there (only by 2 anyway). If I do get my spot in Eng1A which is highly likely I’ll need to petition in order to add the class.

Can I just talk to Linda Diaz to take care of that? I’ve seen her already in the beginning of summer. I’m sure she’ll be more than willing to let me take the extra 2 units right?

I just talked to counseling today and Linda yesterday, they’re not letting anyone at this point petition for more unless you’ve got some amazingly special situation. Their reasoning is that 5500~ students didn’t get any classes Fall last year so it would be unfair for some to take more.

hmm interesting…jetlogic brings up a good point.

as time goes on ill be more and more outdated on info so please help me keep this thread updated with the right info and if im wrong please dont hesitate to correct me…because i was just about to say that linda would be glad to do that for you.

regardless i would still try to talk to her. linda may be able to help more than anyone else and if she says no, then there is legitimate reason. the rest of the counselors at mtsac are iffy and i wouldnt trust them. if anything she may just tell you to drop speech…but thats a class that is really helpful. i never took it but from what i hear from others it was a very helpful class. :)

thanks for the info jet :thumbs up:

EDIT: you can try explaining to her that you want to see how the load is…
or (im assuming your doing connect 4, i talk to too many people sorry) you can tell her its your priority to knock out these pre-requisites while you still have the opportunity.

especially for a biochem major…you need to take those science classes out ASAP since they tend to be the hardest to get and the hardest classes at mtsac…

btw, none of those classes you are taking are honors courses?
because someare offered in honors: for example…eng 1A/speech…
and you may have more fun with fellow honors classmates since speech has a lot of group projects
and normal classes tend to have lots of slackers…so dont get dragged down because of it.
beware of the stereotyped CC student…there are certain truths to it.

so i registered last week and here are my classes:
biol 13
chem 40
math 110
engl68***
arch 32

*** this one is a problem ): my counselor told me if i score a 3 or higher on my ap lit test which i did, i can take ENGL 1CH. i couldnt get them to waive engl68 for me with my score result because i am in asia right now ToT… and when i checked the class listing of it today, it showed that it was closed D:
does anyone have an idea on how i can switch out from engl68 to engl1CH? D:
thanks!!!

oh! and about the units thing… so are my calculations correct: the avg # of units UCLA preRN nursing requires is around 106… so i multiplied that by 2/3 and got like 70ish. so really, all i need is 70 units total from mt sac o__o? hope this doesnt sound too confusing D:

As far as clearing for Engl 1C, what I understand is that AP Language counted as 1A and AP Literature counted as 1B, at least that’s how it worked out for me to get clearance for English 1C. And even if you do get cleared for it, there’s no way to get into 1CH at this point, but maybe you could get into a normal 1C unless they add another honors class.
By the way, if you’re in honors why didn’t you take any other honors courses?

Transferring into UCLA as junior status would require 60 credits minimum with IGETC and major pre-requisites filled, so 70 sounds about right.

Hi. I think u have a few problems with your classes & units. You should not think “how many units do I need,” but rather, how many CLASSES do I need!

You are trying to get into UCLA’s prelic nursing program, right. Let’s look @ the classes u are taking.

Bio 13
Chem 40
Math 110
Arxh 32

Now let’s look @ you major pre-req’s.

English (2 courses)
1 transferable math class
Chem 50
Chem 51
Chem 80
Bio 1
Bio 8
Anat 36
Anat 35

Contact UCLA re US history&PolS
Other courses that can be completed & the CC level(not required, but will need to get done)
Spch 1a or spech 1h
Jour 100 or spech 26
Micr 1
Psyc 1a or ah …

Do u have even 1 class that knocks out anything? Or are those classes u listed pre-req’s for more …pre-req’s.

How long do u plan on staying @ MtSAc? You know, if math is not a stong area for u, then maybe u ought to rethink your major. …

If u know u will be able to get in Eng 1A…just drop the English 68 class; fill it with something else. No sense on taking the class if u will be able to get 1A-but make sure u are able to before u drop it.

On the IGETC Pattern it is not Usually required to complete @ the CC level, but that doesn’t mean student who follow IGETC get lucky and just don’t have to take it; u do but u complete it after u transfer. With a nursing program thou they might have some exam to pass it thou for completion. Also with majors/programs like nursing or chem, bio etc… Students need to be very careful/wise in planning their classes. With your nursing program u don’t follow IGETC like say, a history major would. All of your classes are basically gonna be math/science related eg bio, chem…
U would fill IGETC with your “core” major classes which will knock out area 5. U take your enlish req and a few for art&hum.(But u have to be careful;u have to get a current list for those classes b/c sometimes they want u to take a specific class in that area. Or they may require u to take Phil 9 for your "2nd English/critical writing class etc…)

Majors like

Some biz classes
Nursing program
Bio/chem

Need to,again, to planned out very well.
You really need to reconsider your major.

thanks for voicing your concern!
oh i already DID plan out my entire ucla nursing thing for the next 2 years (with 3 backup plans in case things go horribly wrong) the reason why im taking such seemingly random classes for this fall semester is because 1. my parents want me to explore architecture first and 2. because to get to classes like chem 50, 51 & 80, i have to go through chem 40 first but my schedule for the next 2 years DO have all of those req classes in mind (: and the igetc stuff~~
but the stupid part is that i didnt really figure out that units thing till TODAY so i really dont see why i should take biol13 anymore (originally, i STUPIDLY wanted to take it just to get a ton of credits/ as many classes as possible but now of course that is not such a good idea…) and should take a speech class instead or something… .. this will take some time to figure out…
i think i will see if i can get into an engl 1a/ engl 1ah class if 1ch is impossible @jetlogic
im not in the honors program but i really do intend to join it the next semester i will try my best to study as hard as i can so i can get a 3.5+ so i dont have to get teachers reqs and what not oo
thanks for everyones help!! :D

So u say u made back up plans incase something went wrong-then I guess it’s time to look those papers(backup plan)over.

Sunny, u may have written some classes down on a piece of paper-but u obviously don’t know what u are doing. You even admit this later in your postM

I do know there is a pre-req for some classes. So tell me, did u take the chem placement exam to get in a higher class-no u didn’t did u.

I could care less if u take arch-or anything else for that matter. If u wanna stay in denial mode-it’s coold w/me.(& the arch class isn’t even the proble. But there are actually lots of people who hope to get those few spots;students who could take an arch class-becuase they know what they are doing. U can take xtra classes. U just have to plan well. U will not get in this program. FORGET the stupid “honor classes” and wake up).

First let me apologize; it was/is not my intention to come across as “hostle.” Why should I evev care if s/he wastes 2 years of his life. …

Sorry, but it’s pretty obvious there is a BIG problem her. & u are not helping this person out by your posts. A lil’ smiley face isn’t gonna solve anything. Let me also say that throughout this thread and others u have given incorrect info. THat’s not me being “hostle” either-just being …“real”
If u don’t know an answer to a q’-u shouldn’t anwser. This is someone’s life; it’s important this poster knows that there is something wrong NOW-not later.

Anyway, I’m out…I’m getting tired typing on this phone.
