**OFFICIAL Mt SAC CC TRANSFER THREAD**

No, I’m pretty sure you’re being hostile and you know you are. You’re sarcasm tells us. This is Dainese’s thread. If you don’t like his thread you can leave. He takes the times out of his day to come here and answer the question of new Mt. Sac students. A lot of the time it’s the same kind of question but he answers them individually instead of referring them back. He went from Mt. Sac to USC, he knows the ins and outs of the school and does not mind lending a hand out to students in need of guidance. And he does it all without ever being sarcastic, hostile, rude or condescending. He even adds smiley faces. How nice.

Later gator. :)

feel free to show me where i have given out incorrect info…
and if i did, was it not corrected almost immediately?

let me take the extra time out for you (and all others that didnt get the memo.)

Sunny, u may have written some classes down on a piece of paper-but u obviously don’t know what u are doing. You even admit this later in your postM

-its a start and a step ahead of everyone else who DOESNT have classses written down on a piece of paper. keep in mind she may not be prepared as to what classes to take this semester, but she does know what classes to ultimately take to transfer to UCLA.

there are many things to factor into what she can take this semester that she simply cannot determine at the moment since she is out of the country!

I do know there is a pre-req for some classes. So tell me, did u take the chem placement exam to get in a higher class-no u didn’t did u.

i have already stressed this enough to everyone in this thread that there are 3 placement tests. CHEM/ENG/MATH. take them all.
you can see i did address this to sunny earlier in this thread (PAGE 6 post 69). so whether she did it or not is not my concern, as long as she is aware of it. some people need review, some dont.

I could care less if u take arch-or anything else for that matter. If u wanna stay in denial mode-it’s coold w/me.(& the arch class isn’t even the proble. But there are actually lots of people who hope to get those few spots;students who could take an arch class-becuase they know what they are doing. U can take xtra classes. U just have to plan well. U will not get in this program. FORGET the stupid “honor classes” and wake up).

-im fairly confident she will get into the honors program, even without my guidance or your negativity.
she already did the favor of explaining her personal life to you that “my parents want me to explore architecture first”
if she can grab those classes then all the power to her.

are there people who may need the classes more than she does? of course.
are there reasons why they dont get those classes? of course.
does she control that? no.
is that her fault? no

yes, the class availability is getting smaller and smaller, you get what you can get. if you dont get it, there are many ways to do so. be resourceful.

yes the transfer process can be 2 years of your life, but the key to that is that its YOUR life. im simply here to help give advice and guidance, whether you accept it/listen to it/live by it…is ultimately your choice.

and if there is a question that i dont know the answer too, so far someone else has been able to answer it for me. if you’d like to call me out on what i dont know thats fine because there is a lot i dont.

but im sure that everyone is aware in this thread that im not the person to go to for 100 percent guidance. no one is. but atleast i can relieve a little stress by answering a question momentarily or pointing you in the right direction.

and you see how serious this post sounds without smileys?
dont we get enough of that throughout the day…
as the joker would say… “why so serious?”

EDIT: thanks flutie.
and endaxi…i know you mean well but its not helping. feel free to chime in whenever you want, but please dont lash out at people’s choices/decisions. everyone has to learn at their own pace and from their own mistakes.

and if you want to continue bickering/arguing/whatever you want to call it. please keep it to PM.

i dont want this thread closed due to internet drama.
i know this thread helps lots of people and i want to continue to offer my help.

so if you dont respect me, atleast respect other past/current/future mtsac students by NOT letting this thread be closed.

Dainese,

Just a fews things…

When I wrote that Sunny wasn’t getting in “the program”-i wasn’t ref to the honors program; I meant her prenurse program. Sunny needs to stop obsessing over the HP and get to what’s important.

Re: your adive/guidence. U have stated many x’s that student should not see a school counsle; come to u-u know more.

Re: its not your problem if new kids take your advice and its wrong. Got to say that would bother the heck out of me. New MT SAC student coming to u for “guidence” and u think, "well if I give em bum advice…they gotta learn.

The info u gave about Sunny and where that poster is re progress of studies show u don’t understand. She is not majoring in…basket weaving. Quite frankly it seems like u like the attention u get more than care about the advice u give out. & somethings just not right about that.

Anyway that all. _U can have the last word-iam finished.

U oviously have a great personality and all but…u need to realize that some of thed kids are hanging on your every word. …

Have fun:). (Will that smiley do?)

Contrary, Dainese has recommended that students see Linda Diaz, who is an honors counselor and honestly the only one worth seeing for transfers.
I think we can all realize that you shouldn’t trust the guy without a grasp on the English language.
Dainese has done nothing but help students, myself included, and you need to get off of your faux-high horse.

Okay this is last post.

Sunny I apologize for the tone of my posts to u. I reread and they did come across as kinda nasty. Wasn’t my intention-i am sorry and I hope everything works out for u

good call, because i love the last word…and trust me, i would.

yup i stand by my statement of not seeing mtsac counselors but i also do stress a lot that LINDA DIAZ is the person to talk to. until you’ve been to mtsac and spoken to them, dont pass judgement on myself or any other contributor in this thread. the counselors at mtsac know very little about transferring. ive been given the wrong information multiple times and i always leave with more questions than answers.

of course im not going to completely diverge them to perish. ._.x lol
but what they do with my advice is their choice.
so far, i dont believe ive given the wrong educational advice to anyone.
and if i have, i know someone will correct me or already has.
there are many ways to transfer, but like i stated in the first post of this thread…
my advice is to help guide you not hold your hand for 2 years.

sorry i dont understand what you are saying here lol
i know shes not majoring in arch, but clearly her parents want her to try it. so much so that shes willing to do it.

the attention i can careless about. the student’s success is what i care about.
if i wanted the spotlight, college confidential would not be the place because

 1. no one knows who i am
 2. dainese refers to nothing about me other than a motorcycle brand
 3. i dont take credit for this as being MY thread. i would love for any mtsac student to chime in and help fellow mtsac students out. even if you arent a mtsac student, the help is nice. i cant answer every question, unfortunately.

i care so much that i try to cover all the threads in the community college section including your own.

and lets say even if these “kids” are hanging onto my every word, where have i left them hanging?

i answer all their questions to the best of my abilities and if i dont knwo i send them to someone who does.

ill say it once and ill say it again…this thread is not meant for anyone to rely on as a day to day, step by step, semester by semester guide to transferring/life. what you do with your life is not my choice nor is it my place to tell you what to do.

EDIT: endaxi, id love to see you succeed and come back, and start a thread for adult education.
coming back to school after X amount of years is tough. so to have others to talk to about it is nice. :D

Thank God that was his last post.

this might be the dumbest question of them all, but how do i know which english is “english 1c or english 1a” etc. All the english classes im looking at online look all the same 0_o

When you search for English classes it should bring up a large list of classes in English. The class type is in bold and on top of its respective section. Maybe you just need to scroll down.

@dainese:
wow… didnt mean for everything to become this way oo;; but i really DO want to thank you for all the help you have given me since i started writing in this thread! and your advice has always been really really helpful~~ thank you thank you
& @ jetlogic too:
oh and about the chem test-- i knew about it from the start but didnt take it because i knew i would not be ready for the higher level chem classes since my chem skills are quite lousy and i would feel more comfortable starting a little lower so i can have a stronger foundation in the subject :open_mouth: if that makes sense…
@endaxi
actually i am not sure if u are even here anymore to read this oo…

but its alright with your comments~~ they are very honest :O

i am not sure if this question is answerable but…
i am put on the waitlist for one of the classes (i did a change of schedule yesterday) but my waitlist position is #18 D: is this position one that is very unlikely to get a spot in the class D: sorry if it is a very stupid question LOL…

well since waitlists were just reinstated im not sure how they work yet. i thought there were 10 waitlists spots, but i guess for some classes it may be 20?

its too early in the fall registration to say that you CANT get that class.
people will drop that class wanting something else or are just using it as a filler for the time being.

keep it and watch it grow!
i personally feel you will get the class. if you make waitlist u usually can get the class if you follow through with the right directions. and if you dont make it pass the waitlist, always go to the class on the first day or so and scope it out. talk to the prof and see if he/she is willing to add you anyway. its always worth your time to do so. :)

gluck and no problem, im glad i can help. i just hope you guys can help others too when i can no longer do so <3

Hey what’s up Steve! Really nice to see you have a thread just for Sac transfers on CC now!! This guy helped me a TON back in the Spring when I was still debating on community college! ^^

My classes right now:
Sociology 1 - Brooke Bain
Speech 1A- Julie Ann Mallard
Intro to International Relations- Curtis Simon
Marine Bio - Aaron Morris
Marine Bio Lab- Jane Kido
Chinese 1- Susan Njoo

Does my schedule look ok? Lol. I was originally going to take English 1A but they told me that I could pass out of it due to my AP test. And… I lost my scores from last year so I had to call collegeboard… and now all the spots for English 1C are taken. Good game. And I would’ve taken math too but I didn’t take my placement test for math yet -.- Sigh haha…

hey
i know you wanted to go to a UC but which one? major?

looks great, quite a heavy load though.
thats about 20 units i think…so be aware of drop dates
just dont rush yourself to transfer out and do poorly

im surprised you got so many classes haha
that will be a great start for getting earlier registration next semester,
and thats when you will need it to get math/english.

dont wrry about not getting eng sorted out since you are already going into 1C but you know you can still try to add it…and as for math, take that placement test ASAP!

the longer you wait the more you will forget haha
and once the semester starts, the last thing you want to wrry about is having to take a mathplacement test last minute.

btw, looks like you got some really great profs. ive never taken any but according to ratemyprof your looking good. of course many will argue ratemyprof is full of students that do reviews based on either FAILING the class or getting an A, but regardless its better than going in blindfolded.

My courses right now= 18 units exactly

I want to go to UCLA for Business Economics, USC Marshall, or Cal Haas.

Bleh, I just found out today though that my AP credits actually cover quite a lot… and I don’t really have to take certain classes. I don’t know if I should do some pre-reqs(Macro econ, Financial accounting) instead of taking extra GE classes that I don’t need.

You need to plan carefully for UCLA and Haas. I know that actually getting into Haas has more prerequisites than a normal transfer, and if I recall it has different AP policies than the standard transfer. Also economics is highly impacted at UCLA, so you need to be at the top of your game.
I’m in the same situation, 1 year transfer goal to Cal/Tier 1s, tons of AP, and 18 credits right now.

Yeah, Haas has some ridiculous 7 course breadth thing. Meeting the reqs for UCLA biz econ in one year MIGHT be possible for me… Haas definitely not, I think. I’m debating on maybe trying for UCLA in one year instead and disregarding Haas for now, unless I don’t get in this year and then I’ll try for it next year? :/

It’s not even meeting the pre-requisites that’s the hard part; you’ll need to do that while being a straight-A student while having strong ECs/Personal Statement/SATs. Economics is a very competitive major to get into, and with the overcrowding at UCs, expect very few transfer to get into them.
If you go for one year UCLA, you might want to get TAP certified, if you can manage it in time.

Really? Do SATs still matter for UC transfer?

Alright correct me if I’m wrong…

So my AP credits:
AP Exam - IGETC Section satisfied

* European History - 3B or 4F

 • US History - 3B or 4F
 • English Language - 1A
 • English Literature - 1A or 3B
 • Human Geography - 4E

should give me +18 units total.
And I took 3 years of language in high school so I’m good for language…

Current schedule:
Sociology 1 - Brooke Bain
Speech 1A- Julie Ann Mallard
Intro to International Relations- Curtis Simon
Marine Bio - Aaron Morris
Marine Bio Lab- Jane Kido
Chinese 1- Susan Njoo

If I want to transfer to UCLA Biz econ

I would need:
ENG 1C
1 math class
1 Arts class
1 Social and Behavioral science class
1 Physical Science
1 Biological science
+lab

and pre reqs
Macro Econ (3)
Micro Econ (3)
Financial Accounting (5)
Mangagerial Accounting (5)
Math 180 Calculus and Analytic Geometry (4)

Math 181 Calculus and Analytic Geometry (5)

Would a better schedule, then, be… assuming I get into Honors after Fall and can get all the classes I need, and can petition for more credits in Winter/Spring. And I need 5 honors courses for TAP, correct? I realize it’s probably not a very realistic schedule due to the difficulty and availability of classes. It’s purely hypothetical.

FALL
MARINE BIO 3
MARINE BIO LAB 1
PRE CALC 4
MICRO ECON 3
ACCOUNTING FINANCIAL 5
=16 units

WINTER
MATH 180
ENGLISH 1C H
=8 units

SPRING
MACRO ECON H 3
MATH 181 4
SOME ART H 3
ACCOUNTING MANAGERIAL 5
SOME PHYSICAL SCIENCE H 4
NUTRITION H? 3
=22 units

TOTAL: 46 units + AP credit of 18 units = 64 units
That should cover my pre-reqs, IGETC, and honors reqs right?

Don’t remember the specific Mtsac reqs… did I also need a PE?

Ah, wait… I think you need 6 honors courses for TAP? Lol maybe I should just try for regular economics instead, I don’t need 10 units of accounting for that.
