Today is the 3rd…still nothing.

Yea seriously. how do they expect some students to find Winter classes if they aren’t sure if they passed/failed a class they took during Fall? I know i didn’t fail any classes, but there are students who would need to know way before Winter session begins. It begins in less than a week and grades still aren’t posted.

This is me probably voicing my frustrations over many of the responses to this, but I’ll lay them down in the most colloquial way possible.
I very very very much doubt this was at all intentional or wanted by any member of staff. I have repeatedly heard or read students say “why are they doing this” “how do they expect us to ‘insert statement here’”; this is not only pointless but also non-constructive. The administration is very caring of students and is obviously not trying to spite or hurt students. How self-absorbed do students have to be to think this is some sort of vendetta against them? They answer is this: very.

Now the grades will be here within the next day or two. I’ll be on campus tomorrow personally and if I glean any updates, I’ll post them here. In the meantime, honestly ask yourself this: does complaining incessantly really help?

Grades are posted

@Jetlogic Well i wasn’t exactly complaining for myself, more so worrying about other students lol. But I was a little frustrated. And i didn’t say they were doing it intentionally or anything

so i went late to my math 130 final and only had about 30 mins to take a 2 hour final. needless to say i ended up with a D in the class. i heard you can only retake classes that you fail. can anyone confirm this? cuz i would like to retake it, cuz i know i’d def do way better than a D. thx

@Nifloe I was more voicing my frustration to the other students, specifically on Mt. SAC’s facebook. If you read the comments there, it’s really really ridiculous

@apodude12, you can retake a class you don’t pass and a D is not passing.

@Jetlogic Oh I didn’t even know about the Facebook page, I knew they had one but didn’t know it was that active. lol I just read some of the comments, yeah it’s pretty ridiculous

@JetLogic alright thanks for clearing that up.

when i take the class over again it’ll show both grades on my transcript or will the new grade just replace the old one?

@apodude - it will show your new grade but it will be marked that it was retaken

@uschopeful - 3.6 is still strong, id still suggest you apply.

USC is NOT the best of psych. but it still has a pretty strong program and is still a good place for building lots of connections. no matter where you go, you will be able to do this…but at SC its more open and professors really want you to go and talk to them.
i had a professor last semester who encouraged students to come to office hours with extra credit. and regardless of the extra credit, i went for advice and to talk. later i found out he is on the board of admissions for USCs psych grad program and he helped me with lots of advice on what they look for and letter of recs etc. if i knew him better, id def ask him for one.

however, ill be honest… if you want to major in psych id suggest figuring out what exactly you want to do with psych first.

i say this because a BA in psych is absolutely useless in comparison to other majors.
however, if you know you want to work hard and not burn out and go for the pre-med path or PHD then its fine. but just know what you are getting into.

im going to use psych to help become a school/college counselor :)

@everyone else
- sorry for the late responses! been busy with school and catching up with life. hope everyones doing well. dont hesitate to PM me if its urgent!

i ran across this on reddit, i thought it really sheds light onto what everyones college experience will be to come…

keep fighting on! (never gets old)

Hi, so currently im registered for political science (poli 1) and on waitlist for english 1c. They are both on the same days and time. If i’m able to get into the 1c should i take it instead of the pol1 or should i take pol 1 over 1c? right now i’m just trying to knock ge’s out of the way.

english is generally harder to get from what i remember.
id take english over polisci. plus i think UC’s prefer you to complete ENG/MATH over any other GE unless your major specifies otherwise

Hello people, I was wondering if you’d be willing to give me some advice. The thing is that I’m having trouble deciding whether I want to take both Math 280 and 285 in the Spring or if I should just wait until next Fall to take 285. The reason I’m having trouble deciding is because I’d also be taking Physics 4B and some random GE along with these classes, leaving me to wonder if this would be too heavy of a load. I’m pretty sure the GE will be an easy A and I’ve never had trouble in any math class (I’ve gotten mid to high A’s in 110 and 150 through 181), but I want to do well in the physics class because I got a B in Physics 4A. If I don’t take Math 285, then I’d probably replace it with English 1C, which I see myself having less trouble with and would thereby leave me more room to study physics. On the other hand, if I were to take 285 now, then I’d qualify for a research grant that I’m being considered for. Obviously qualifying for this grant does not guarantee that I’ll get it, but at this point in my educational career, even qualifying would be pretty awesome. Just let me know what you think, and thanks in advance.

I myself did 280, 285, and 4B this past Fall among other classes and work. I will tell you that it is not so much extremely hard as it is a lot of work. It also depends on who you take for 4B. Tatoian’s class is very difficult and most students struggle even completing the homework, yet alone get decent test grades. 280 is in my opinion easier than 181 if you’re a strong calculus student and 285 is not hard if you’re comfortable with mathematical rigour and logic. If you’re not working at the same time, I don’t think it would be all that bad.
Want to share the name of that research grant btw ;]

@JetLogic, Dainese

is it normal that there are only 2 Math 61 Classes for this Spring 2012?? Or will they be adding more? I need to get into Math 150, and for that to happen I have to pass Math 61, which I wasn’t able to get this winter session. If you guys have any details on the availability of the class this spring that would be great otherwise I can take the geometry competency test now and get Math 150 this Spring.

Why do you need math 150? It doesnt transfer…

Hi,
Where I plan to transfer to: UCLA
Major: PreMed PharmD
GPA: 3.5
High School: John A. Rowland High School

I have 63 units and I am wondering if I should join the honors program and take four honor courses in spring albeit I get into the honors program. The courses I plan on taking are Eng1CH NF25H ANTH1H and SOC1H. Will this be too much or should I break up this load? I want to take advantage of the TAP that honors program offers. I also want to take Chem50H and Bio4H to compete my six courses and those are not available spring, I did see them in fall however. Please advise!

@nifloe - i cant tell you the exact reason as to why there are cuts for math 61…but im sure its safe to assume its budget cuts. and do u need 150? its only required for calstates i believe. NOT needed for UCs

if anything, ALWAYS test out of math/eng/chem. it will save you time, energy, everything.

@lachesis - seems like you can handle it just fine. take on the grant!

@calibds - welcome!
DO HONORS. i cant stress it enough haha. it will only help, never hurt (assuming you are a good student). and no that will NOT be too much. soc1H is a joke, eng1Ch is managable; however, i dont know how it is like now…the others are just classes.

even if you dont complete honors, it will help your app. but if u do, of course it helps a lot. but i do suggest you work hard to get As in all of your classes ahead. with a 3.5 you will have to fight for your spot at UCLA, esp doing anything premed/pharm. aim for a 3.6-3.7 with TAP.

with anything, you should just do so well that they have no excuse NOT to give you what you deserve IE getting into UCLA.

Thanks Dainese,
I’m going to SAC right now to put my app in at the honors office, wish me luck. I do find myself a great student the past three semesters full time were 4.0 and I was taking all my labs, I managed anat35 chem 40 and some ge with all a’s. last semester I did physio micro and med terms again all a’s…another 4.0 ishould be bumped to around 3.6 I’m sure making me a better candidate for a top school such as UCLA. Thanks again for the solid info I really appreciate it!

glad to help. sounds like you can handle course load so pull through the last several classes and ull be at UCLA in no time.
