honors information
[Mt. San Antonio College](http://www.mtsac.edu/instruction/honors/eligibility.html)

if you meet the requirements or come close, go to the honors office and turn in an application :)

you can get fin aid at mtsac by applying, talk to the fin aid department for more details. sorry i cant help you much more there… :(

in terms of scholarships/grants the FA department can assist you as well. theres a opening all the way to the left of the FA department where you can get information :)

you can get into honors as long as you meet the requirements, bridge or no bridge i dont think it matters

@cyse - the bridge program is like taking multiple courses linked together.
heres some more info on it
[Welcome to Mt. San Antonio College](http://www.mtsac.edu/students/bridge/)

and for TAG/TAP as far as i know, as long as you meet the requirements you qualify.

so i have to have a cumulative high school gpa of 3.5 with a teacher recommendation?

what if i dont meet the requirements? how can i get into the honors program? i really want to get in to a UC

Or 3.2 GPA for 9 transferable credits and teacher recommendation letter.

i dont have that 3.2 gpa or 9 transferable credits… im sure i can get teacher recommendation. do i have to join the honors program in order to get into an honors class?

Yes, i’m pretty sure you at least need that 3.2…

But if you don’t have 9 transferable courses then you have plenty of time. You need about 60 to transfer anyways. You’ll be here for a while :wink: lol

how do i get financial aid for mt sac?

^ [Home - FAFSA on the Web-Federal Student Aid](http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/)

@vtlord - if you come close to a 3.2, check in with the honors department and talk to the director, carolyn kuykendall (spelling not sure)

and yes you gotta be in honors to take honors courses. worse case scenario if you cant get into honors, it is still doable to get into a UC, but you would need a strong app.

can i join mt sac as a regular student then join the honors program?

also what are transferable credits? how int he world did u get in with a 2.07 high school gpa?
did u get in as a freshman?
what other programs were u in?
what is the honors program like?
how much does it cost to go to mt sac?
is the cost the same for everyone?
how to i register for mt sac?

Has anyone ordered transcripts recently from Mt. Sac? Do you know how long it really takes to mail out?

I ordered transcripts mid-January and none of the CSU schools have received them yet. The checks just cleared this week I see in the bank, so I wonder if they ship right away or did they honestly wait till now? =.=

@Vltord

If I were you, I’d browse Mt SAC’s website. It can answer a majority of the questions that incoming students have. It also comes in handy to know your way around the site once you actually start taking classes there, so I’d recommend looking through each tab to understand what the school has to offer.

Also, how well you do in high school really has nothing to do with how well you’re going to do in college. Like Dainese, I was a pretty average student in high school. I had no extra-curricular activities, I was kicked out of my school’s honors program going into my sophomore year, and was actually known more for my partying than for my intellectual prowess. I ended up barely reaching the minimum requirements to graduate and did so with a 2.1 GPA.
I am now heading into my fourth full semester at Mt. SAC and have made a complete turnaround. I have great relationships with many of my former professors, I was given a scholarship as a part of my admission into the STEM program, and have a 3.85 cumulative GPA.

What I’m trying to say is that all you have to do is make sure you work hard once you get here and you’ll get to where you want to go.

would anyone recommend earning an associate’s degree?

I’m pretty sure that through all your courses needed to transfer you’ll earn one anyways. So yes

@mochalata - hi :)

transcripts can take up to 2 weeks or possibly more, or worse…lost in the mail. what id suggest is to go to the student center and ask the about the status of your transcripts. next time you can also pick them up in person and deliver them to your respective schools, its fail safe and you know they got there.

@vltord - you got pm! :D

@lachesis - thats really great to read :slight_smile:
keep working hard

Hi i am a junior in high school and i have a 2.65 GPA with almost no extra cirrucular activities, no sports, no officer positions in clubs, and no AP or honors classes, and to top it all off im Asian, which means i am not getting into a 4 year university straight on. in this country, if you’re asian and you’re not a 4.0 AP student then u can kiss a 4 year good bye. anyway, i want to transfer to UC Santa Cruz or santa barbara from mt sac. im not sure of my major yet but i do know i want to do something in medicine. so i was wondering what ill need to do in mt sac to to be able to transfer? i read somewhere that the TAG gpa requirement for santa cruz is 3.0 while santa barbara is 3.2, but what else do i need to know if im going to transfer?

well first, just finish off ur hs career and graduate. try to begin building a good study regimen. good study habits = good grades. plan accordingly, dont just blow off hs since u know ur gonna transfer…ull end up at mtsac doing the same.

you have to go into mtsac with the right attitude and knowing what you are up against and what you gotta do. do NOT go to mtsac trying to figure all that out once ur there…ull end up there for a while if u do.

heres what you can do

 1. go to mtsac and get some counseling from the transfer center/counseling center
 2. graduate hs of course
 3. take placement tests IE eng, math, chem (study up!)
 4. learn IGETC
 5. realize that it may take more than 2 years to transfer, esp with pre-med path
 6. get into honors asap
 7. be patient and persistent when trying to get classes, it WILL be hard and it WILL be frustrating as hell. anyone here will back me up on that. unfortunately it seems like its getting harder and harder each year as well. so dont give up.

lastly, you will learn at mtsac that maybe you wont want to do medicine, so always keep an open mind.

once you are at mtsac, get involved. join clubs, student gov, etc. volunteer. internships. research. mtsac can offer those to you

lmk if u have more Qs
:)

did you enter mt sac with the same attitude as u had in hs?

lol no, complete turn around. otherwise id still be at mtsac
