Cool 224!!! Congrats all

BadDriver–thanks. Will check with GC today. Son also has 221. What part of VA? We haven’t started school yet in Fairfax County.

Does anyone know when we will get the materials to fill out for NMF?

Jenniling: THANKS!! Congratulations to you too! I still won’t tell my son until he hears for sure from school.

I live in Wisconsin. My 220 was obviously over the line and so was my friend’s 209. So WI is 209 or lower. I was hoping that my friend would make it since 209 was the cutoff last year.

elitenoob, thx so much for posting. That’s what we were waiting to hear. Our schools don’t release info until the 9/12 date. Good news for us. I thought since last year WI was one of the few that didn’t jump, maybe this year something perverse would happen and we’d be one of the few that did jump.

Found out yesterday from my GC that I qualified with a 225. I live in MD but attend school in DC. Does anyone know if it’s based on where you live or where you go to school?

D got “official” confirmation that 216 makes it in TX, but they didn’t tell her the cut-off. She knows she’s the only one, and the next highest scorer had a 209. (ironically, she also found out there were 3 sophomores who scored in the 220’s, so I guess our school will have more next year!)

10(?) Boarding school regions

These usually are set to be equal to the highest cut-off score among the individual states in the region.

Internationals=?
This usually is set to be equal to the highest cut-off score among all the individual states.

Commended (national cutoff)=200
Any person with a score equal to or higher than this cutoff who is not a NMSF receives commended status. This group represents the highest 50,000 scorers.

The High School GC offices have the paperwork for the NMSFs to fill out now.

Congrats on your child making the cutoff. Do you know the exact cutoff number for Florida?

TXArchitect ~ Do all HS GC offices have the paperwork? Principal promised he would tell us as soon as he heard anything. DS hasn’t heard anything with a 211 in MI, but school doesn’t start until Tuesday. Sooo tired of waiting!

It is based on the location of the school you attend, NOT on the state you are a resident of. So if you live in Alabama but attend prep in Connecticut, then your score needs to be sky high!

By the way, KUDOS on your score!

Beginning last year (or maybe the year before - I’m not sure) the application is done mostly online. The packet that was sent to the school telling who all made semifinalist has a unique username and password for each semifinalist. I assume as soon as you get the username/password from your GC you can log in and get started on everything. My son is waiting until he has some downtime this weekend to take a look at it.

New as of last year. https://osa.nationalmerit.org/

NC Semifinalist with a score of 215. I feel blessed because I think it was the cutoff and I was stupid. Last year, I scored 220 so I took it easy for this testing and got a 215. I then studied for the SAT and got a 2340. So clearly just stupidity.

Sorry, I don’t know cut off for Florida. Only know my s got in with 213. He might learn more today. he has meeting with principal.

Any more California scores? Nothing from my D’s school yet.

Today at school, I got a note saying that I am invited to a “special lunch” with the principal and an administrator next Friday. Several other people I know got it as well. There wasn’t any more info, but we’re guessing that it’s for National Merit Scholars. So I’m happy. Yay! :)

But, more relevant to this thread, one of the girls invited got in with a 220. We live in Maryland.
