I have to say that I don’t understand the NU in program acceptances at all. Lots of people with exceptional scores and grades…lots of people with great grades and scores…all of whom certainly compare to those accepted regular decision. I get why I was accepted into this program because of a lot of international community service and my desire to major in human services…but gotta say that NEU needs to have a check the box as to whether you are at all interested in this program or not. If I had that option, I would not have checked that box and really wanted to be accepted to this school. I am not foreclosing it as an option…but doubt I will go as I have no desire to start my freshman year in Boston in January.

Confused by the NU/in, so people were put into this program, without applying for it, how odd. Does this suggest that first semester retention is low making room for more students to enter in the spring? My D was accepted to regular NEU. I know of a LAC that has a first semester in London, but it is a program you apply special to.

Accepted to the School for Undeclared and the Honors Program with the Deans Scholarship of 20K per year. 3.5 GPA, 35 ACT Superscore, great essay, good extracurriculars, and good teacher rec. I didn’t really expect to get in especially not honors but I think the essay, extracurriculars, and ACT made the difference.

I think nu in is a way to deal with their housing issues. They have so many students on coop with guaranteed housing per semester. The kids put into the NU in program are used to fill dorm space for students who are second semester coop students. I guess it’s a smart approach to deal with their housing issues and may be a great opportunity for certain types of students. Not sure I am one of those students though. This was a safe school for me…though it was on the top of my list because of the coop program. This is just my personal opinion.

Not technically denied? But not completely accepted? I was accepted into their NU In program which is I guess pretty neat and better than a flat out rejection. I would love to travel abroad and it’s only for the first semester which is not terrible. I had a huge setback today after being accepted to but not receiving any merit aid from my top choice school (it is not a very selective school so that’s why it was sort of a crushing blow) so this makes me feel a lot better.

They definitely are much more selective than I previously thought they were. All of you guys have amazing stats.

from what i’ve read, the nu in program is for students who would benefit from the studying abroad. they take kids with qualifications from all over, from those who were accepted to ivies, to those who had northeastern as a reach. for example, i fall somewhere in the lower-middle part of the applicant pool, but when i looked back, i realized i had displayed significant interest in studying abroad, i actually ended my common app essay with , “i can’t wait to begin changing the world.” and my extracurriculars and essays consistently demonstrated that wasn’t afraid to try new things, step out of my comfort zone, and work to change the world around me. I think the nu in program isn’t necessarily for the “pity applicants”, but those who would well represent northeastern on a global scale, show a desire to become global citizens and are adventurous and would acclimate well, especially considering the community service done while abroad. by taking out these students, it leaves room to accept additional students who are also qualified. i agree that you should be able to opt out of this program, and understand that this is my personal interpretation of the program.
