NEU keeps the two separate - merit scholarships based upon top 25% (however they deem it top) and then financial aid is based upon the numbers (FAFSA, etc.)
@redpoodles I have the same ACT score as your daughter and received decent aid, so I would be surprised as well if you don’t get much…
Looks like international students with lower stats have been admitted. This is probably because they don’t qualify for financial aid meaning more $$$ for NEU. They can get a small merit award.
Do acceptance letters come in the mail? I got my decision from the portal but I was wondering if I would get a hard copy too.
@czmull yes, they send you a very nice packet in a big envelope (it’s actually the nicest one my S received).
When do they send the packets? Should these already have been received?
Do I have to pay deposit in order to attend a welcome day? I don’t see the link where I can register in myNEU portal
@beczhou its under the self service tab and it says register for events. i just did it
@dyslexicmom for EA, we got ours about a week or so after the notification, so it should get there this week.
Thanks!
Does anyone know about housing for National Hispanic Scholars? Is it a specific hall or can they choose any?
National Hispanic Scholars is the monetary part, but it doesn’t affect housing. If you got into Honors, housing is in International Village. Otherwise, you get to choose an LLC based on interests.
Thanks for the info @nanotechnology. Now off to research best dorms at Northeastern for freshman. Hopefully one near a gym and food.
You can’t pick a dorm - you can pick an LLC but they are not in the same building year to year - so just relax and see where you get assigned
It’s not that serious, just looking into the various halls for information.
@kitty11 no it is probably because international students score structurally lower on SATs etc and have other grading systems on which to judge their academic performance. SATs are a very basic measure of academic potential and there are syllabus reasons why they are harder if done from a non-US school system.
Accepted at Northeastern with a nice scholarship, rejected at Bucknell and waitlisted at Lehigh. Well, at least my decision just became a lot easier!
Got accepted as an international student without any FA. Is the $200k bumper price worth it?
@thepredestrian that is a question that has been asked many times on these forums, and the answer is, it depends. In theory, no education is worth $200K on its face value, it’s what you do with it. It also depends upon what your other options are and what they cost. And whether you can afford it, or you’re going into massive debt to afford one school vs another.
@thepredestrian Are your parents wealthy?
