[ *] Strengths: ecs/gpa/essays
[ *] Weaknesses: my mid year report, SAT score
[ ] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:I really think I got waitlisted because my mid year report was really bad. Maybe my SAT score really screwed me over. I really don’t get why I didnt get in.
[ ] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: accepted into UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, rejected by none
[ b]General Comments:
Northeastern was supposed to my back up school if anything happened, but I’m actually surprised/angry at my decision from here. I feel like since I didn’t get into a not so good (rank-wise) school, I skeptical for my decisions from other schools.

Not attacking those who got admitted (I am only criticizing the admissions department), I am going to second a recent post and say that I am shocked at how people with high qualifications are wait listed or rejected while those with, let’s say, for instance, 7 ACT points less are accepted (I am not ignoring other factors either). I understand that there were a plethora of applicants and space was limited, but even that circumstance is no justification for such nonsense.

@cub123456, I know exactly what you’re saying. Reading from other waitlisted posts, they should seriously not be waitlisted. I got waitlisted and it’s just a real confidence de-booster. Seeing that I got in UCSD and other various schools (UCs), I really expected an acceptance. Now, I’m really not looking forward to getting my decisions from my other private schools :/

Hi, I used to teach at NEU and I wanted to offer these reminders to people who are disappointed they didn’t get in, or that they’re waitlisted. Because of the coop program, NEU has a school calendar that’s different from those at other schools. This means that students go to school during the summer term a few times during their college career; they may move off campus to do coop jobs in other cities (or to live at home and save money on R&B); and they get their BA/BS in 5 years rather than 4. All of this affects friendships that students make with classmates/roommates who may have different coop schedules, as well as the time that they spend at home. (That is, they could spend MORE time living at home while working a coop job near home, and they don’t get the full summers off as their friends from other colleges do.)

Of course the coop experience can be helpful to students in terms of giving them real-world work experience, but this depends on your major and the actual coop job you get. I knew some students who had coop jobs that weren’t very helpful to their eventual career paths. I also know (and work with) alumni of other colleges without coop who had really helpful internships during their time in college. If you were really attracted to the coop program, choose a college with good internship opportunities and pursue them, and you’ll do just as well in less time.

I just wanted to add some perspective, because not being accepted to NEU (or any college that’s your dream college) is not the end of the world! NEU has been after students with higher GPAs and SAT/ACT scores for the past 10 (or more?) years, and its popularity during a recession, when people are more focused on how college can help them get into a job, has allowed them to become even more selective AND popular. It’s a nice school in a nice location, but it’s not the best match for all students.

Best wishes to you all!
