Hi everyone!
Who else has applied to NU early? Feel free to post your stats, questions or share your thoughts.
Good Luck!

I’m finishing up my essay today and submitting it all tonight! I am seriously freaking out though, because all of my stuff is online but my guidance counselor is having to do everything on paper because my transcript was too big to upload. I’m worried that when I try to apply it will tell me that he hasn’t signed the ED agreement online, which he can’t do, and I will be screwed over. :(

Also, is a unique title for the “Why Northwestern” essay a necessity? I’m drawing repeated blanks over mine.

I think it’ll all get sorted out. Plus if you call admissions the automatic machine says they will notify you if something is missing so that you can fix it.
I didn’t title mine…

Best of luck to all of this years’ NU ED applicants. I remember this time last year when D was submitting her application, and know it’s an exciting but nerve-wracking milestone!

You have all worked hard to get to this point – and I don’t mean just getting your application together – and I hope you pause to give yourselves a HUGE pat on the back for all of your scholastic and EC accomplishments to-date.

Bravo, and best of luck to you all!!

Theatre Major here! Anyone else apply as a theatre major? I have terrible luck finding any on CC.

@kengonzo - My D is a freshman Theatre major this year, and I know last year there were quite a few ED Theatre Majors here at CC so I’m guessing you’ll find others before long! Folks are still busy completing applications and trick-or-treating I’ll bet! ;-D

Prospective Econ Major here, actually just finished my Common App a few minutes ago, currently working on the NU Supplement. Great thing I visited NU yesterday, I know exactly why I’d want to go and what I would offer! Best of luck to everyone :D

I can’t believe, after months of reading these kinds of threads, that I can actually write in one now!

Prospective engineer major here :D

Yeah I feel the same way Harvard hottie! I followed the NU ED thread last year and I knew that in 2011 I would be able to worry with other ED applicants :).

Does anyone know, is the decison date dec 15th?

@ilana: I thinks so? It might be the 17th but I think it was the 15th…

Also yeah ED! Hope I get in and have a chance to freeze my butt off for 4 years rather than burn it off in the Texas heat like I have been doing. Applying tomorrow when I finally have everything together, last minute edits = bad idea but now I can’t not do them.

Oh and prospective Mech E here! Good luck to all and with any luck this time next year we can awkwardly be bumping into each other!

Does Northwestern send you any messages about your application throughout November and early December. Messages like, “you are still in the pool”, or “we were impressed by your application,”

I second MomCares. Alum and parent of an ED accepted class of 2015 son here. The fact that you guys are in the running and can put up a credible application to NU is an accomplishment in itself. Best of luck to all!

It’s crazy that the deadline is already here. I grew up in Chicago before I moved out here to Philly so it would be great to come home Love having an “NU Stress Group” haha
ED for Radio/Television/Film!

@jgr1820: I don’t believe so, but they’ll notify you of the final decision by the 10th-12th of December typically

I can’t speak to what they’ll do this year, but I just went back and checked and here’s how it worked for D last year.

Around a week after her ED app was submitted, she got an e-mail confirming receipt of her application and saying they would notify her when her file was complete.

Around a month later (mid-November) she got an e-mail saying her application was complete and under review. D might have called somewhere in the interim asking if they’d gotten everything, but I’m not sure.

On Friday, December 10th (I think last year someone said prior-years’ letters also went out the Friday before Dec 15th) at around 5:00 NU-time, she got an e-mail saying the decision letters had been mailed and she could check her decision on-line.

Important note – MANY people had the final e-mail end up in SPAM because it came from an odd address, so it’s worth adding the indicated e-mail address to your “Safe” list ahead of time (when you get the initial Confirmation Receipt e-mail) if you want to avoid a panic on the final day when you don’t get mail you’re eagerly awaiting. ;-D

Again, I have no idea how it will work this year, but that’s what happened for D last year.

Hang in there everyone, and best of luck!

Dec 10th?! That early? Does it vary from person to person when the decision comes out?

I would NOT count on the 10th. I think the reason that happened last year might have been that it was a Friday and they happened to be (apparently) ready. If it were me I’d still assume it will be around the 15th this year so you don’t start going nuts by the 10th. ;-D

As I recall, almost everyone who got in found out the same day EXCEPT folks whose e-mail wound up in their SPAM folder, but you could look towards the end of last year’s ED thread for better information.

I’m a prospective Communications major – MomCares, do you know how the application decisions were available online? Because I haven’t been given any sort of username for NU to check my application status like I have for other schools - they make it seem like they do everything over email.

I second this - my S’s came to his spam folder, even though he had added the NU email address to his contact list. He checked his spam folder around 5:45 pm on Fri, Dec 10 … the email was released around 5:00 pm that day. However, he had been told Dec 15 earlier that week by the NU admissions office – they must have been ready early and chosen to release it on that Friday.

Re how you find out - didn’t need a password; you clicked on a link inside the email and it took you to the letter indicating what your decision was. This is in contrast to other schools, that give you a specific website and password that you enter at a given time.

Good luck to all!

Yes to what Pizzagirl said! ;-D

Thank you both!! I don’t think I’ve ever been so nervous about… anything really :x

Good luck everyone! :)
