**Official Northwestern 2016 ED Applicants' Discussion Thread**

My school is suuuper small (800) and nobody has applied to NU in the past two years, but for those that applied 3+ years ago they accepted a good amount. They have sent the southeastern rep to our school every year so I hope that means they want kids from our school! I’m the only one who applied ED from my school although some others are applying RD.

Other colleges keep on sending me emails and reminders about deadlines but I can’t even THINK about them right now, I’m too nervous! I’m pretty confident in my grades/ECs/test scores but still, you never know. I just want to find out!

I’m going to be a wreck on the 9th/15th depending on when decisions get sent out. Best of luck to everyone, and it’s so nice to know I’m not alone! Anyone else apply to Medill? (:

Hi! I talked to an admissions officer at an info sesh awhile back when my parents were still deciding whether or not I could apply ED, and she said that without a doubt there is a strategic advantage to applying Early Decision. Obviously it’s a competitive pool but it’s full of people who know they definitely want to go to NU, so admin officers are prone to accept a higher percentage. last year around 38% (or 34? I don’t remember) of the ED applicants were accepted.

Do you guys think that the majority of ED students are from the Chicago area/Illinois in general? I am from California and I know that the majority of our top students apply to Stanford EA…

And would an applicant pool with a majority of Students from Illinois then make it harder for these students? Or in any case easier for OOS students? This is probably just fallacious, wishful thinking haha

PS OH MY GODDDDD RESULTS ARE SO SOON!!! Asdfgolngriinsj I can’t concentrate on anything these days

I like how this thread is finally starting to become active :)

I have a history paper due Friday but I know as the 9th comes closer I won’t be able to focus, so I told myself I’d write it tonight. Yet I keep refreshing the NU on CC page to read threads instead. AHHH. Good to know there are people out there as anxious/ready as I am!!!

Mannnn I don’t even have school Friday! What I’m going to do is go somewhere all day with my friends without wifi to prevent myself from constantly checking my email.

And @InsertJokeHere idk for sure but it does seem like a lot of residents from IL applied ED to NU…maybe because all of my friends are from IL and a lot applied ED or my friends’ friends that attend schools nearby my high school applied ED to NU. (If that makes any sense) I honestly was thinking about applying REA to Stanford at first until I realized I don’t like plane rides or road trips beyond 10 hours. O_o

@Ready2Graduate I’ve totally been refreshing too haha.

The #northwestern tag on Tumblr is also really fun to look at, in case anyone wants to creep around there (: December 15 is the day I have off right before my exams start…so either way I won’t do well. But that’s okay…it’s senior year :stuck_out_tongue: This is all so nerve-wracking! I know being this excited for a potential let-down isn’t very good…but I am anyways. Can’t help it! sgkdsgslhjk

@insertjokehere I don’t know either but i’m applying from VA! hi from the east coast. haha most of my friends don’t even know what Northwestern is…

@ insertjokehere- I am from California too (can you tell?) but I am probably the only dumb mother on this at this point.

I think only one other kid at our school applied ED and she apparently is “super annoying” according to my D b/c she has walked around all year in a Medill sweatshirt, bragging that she is going to get in b/c she went to some summer camp there.

I can’t remember which mom, mom of 3 sons or mom cares (?) said that the president of NU said he would like to see 40% of the freshman class come from ED. Of course, it is in the school’s best interest to take as many ED as they can b/c then their yield, which they are oh-so-concerned about will be higher. Everyone will come!

I agree, it is nice to see more activity on the thread! All of the extra reading about others keeps my mind off of my own decision! I applied ED from a very small town in Minnesota (like 2000 people in the whole town and 70 in my graduating class), and as far as I know I would be the only one who had ever went to NU. Everyone from my school always goes to the same college (University of Minnesota - Duluth), and I want nothing to do with it! Anyways, (hopefully) 4 days left. :)

Good luck everyone!

Haha wow calmama well good luck to your daughter! No one from my school applied to NU ED that I know of. And I’ve pretty much kept it quiet that I did. Just curious (you don’t have to answer if you don’t want), what in-state schools did your D apply to?

Its nice to have an outlet for some nervous energy. I’m applying ED from a medium sized public school in Wisconsin. We’ve had a few people go to NU in the past, but not in very high numbers. Anyways, here’s to hoping for the best on the 9th/15th! Good luck!

@insertjokehere: Are you from SoCal or NorCal? We are from NorCal. My daughter did not tell anyone she applied ED. As a matter of fact, when the rep came to visit she just told him she was very interested because all the other students were hanging around. Then she quick emailed him when she got home to tell him she fully intended to apply ED. She is just assuming the Medill sweatshirt wearer is applying ED but that will probably be the only other person. Quite a few going RD I think.

Frightening as it seems, she did not apply to any UC’s. She just couldn’t get interested. She is applying to USC (with the entire rest of her class), Stanford (if she doesn’t get into NU-both my parents went there) and Pomona (my son goes there—she’s hoping to ride in on his coattails if needed. There test scores are SO ridiculously high!).

guess what guys look what i found!!

[2010-2011 Distribution Requirements](http://www.weinberg.northwestern.edu/advising/degree/distrocourses/2010-2011.html)

it shows some of the classes that you can take in order to fulfill your distribution requirements. a lot of them look much more interesting than high school classes: astronomy, mythology, all sorts of different cultures, etc. if we get in ED we can get a head start at picking classes!! :D

curses this just makes me even more excited/anxious and distracting me even more from doing my homework… i’m so nervous only four days left!

GoBulls: So many of my friends go to LP yay! Yeah… I go to Lane lol.

So I’m really scared! Me and my friend thought of like 7 people from my school that ED’d NU including ourselves. That’s scary!

Oh that’s awesome. I’m from SoCal  Today was Probably around 40-50 degrees and people were going crazy. All I could think about was how I want to be at NU freezing my butt off in a year.

I should really be doing so many other things right now instead of following this thread. But it’s so hard to concentrate!

I just wish they would tell us when they are releasing decisions!! AHH! so nerve wracking!

Applied ED from public school in central jersey (Princeton) with graduating class of around 450. Not sure if anybody else from my school did because it seems like everybody was applying single choice EA to princeton or yale or ED to columbia/cornell/duke etc. The overall tension in my school is unbearable.

@Calmama - Where in NorCal are you from?

sorry that this has nothing to do with what your talking about but how sure are you guys that decisions are released friday opposed to next week?
