Unfortunately we live in California. NU doesn’t make it to Marshalls out here. We prefer to pay full price! :)

Accepted! Weinberg class of 2016!

to those who got accepted: CONGRATS I can’t wait to meet you guys next fall!
to those who got rejected: Don’t worry. Look at the positive: getting rejected means you have other colleges to explore, and even if NU is your first choice, you might enjoy your future college experience even more than you would’ve at NU! :)

Am I allowed to apply again even if I was rejected?

Anyone who hasn’t received the email yet, please check your spam folders. Also, I believe that people using Yahoo had a problem with this last year…Every year some people have issues. It has nothing to do with where you are in the alphabet, what your decision is, etc. It has to do with your Internet provider. :(

JConness-you cannot apply again this year.

living in Chicago has its benefits! thrift stores and stores like marshalls, tj maxx, etc. Are full of NU gear.

@momof3sons

I am using Yahoo and there is nothing wrong with it. The email came into the Inbox.

Accepted! But unfortunately I have to jailbreak in order to join the Facebook. Censorship. I don’t even know how to jailbreak. Anyway, congratulations to all that’s accepted. See you guys soon; good luck to those who got bad news.

Leo16HH,
Glad that you got your positive decision! I didn’t say that everyone using Yahoo had problems, but I seem to remember that there was a lot of this “late decision” stress inducing mess going on last year, too, and I think lots of people were complaining that they had Yahoo.

Congrats to everyone who get accepted! Maybe I’ll join you in Evanston next year?! Only 113 days until us RD’ers find out! (But who’s counting?)

…does this mean we can make a RD Discussion Thread now? ;)

has anybody else gotten deferred? i am really confused because I thought NU didn’t defer…and i’m also unsure whether to feel relieved I wasn’t rejected or mad that I have to still do apps…

Accepted, WCAS 2016!!!

Can I wait until after I get my financial aid package to withdraw other applications, to make sure that I can pay for school? Anyone have a general idea of when we get that?

I was accepted to Weinberg c/o 2016! I think it would be beneficial to post some of my stats so that others can not be discouraged from applying, since I definitely think I was on the lower spectrum of people who got in.

Decision: Accepted

Objective:[list]
[]SAT I (breakdown): 2060-- CR: 630, M: 740, W: 690
[] ACT: 29 (didn’t send since my SAT score is equal to a 31)
[] SAT II:Didn’t take any!
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.55
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 5/384
[] AP (place score in parenthesis):AP Language & Composition: 5, AP US History: 2
[] IB (place score in parenthesis):Not available
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Calc AB, AP Lit, AP Gov, AP Spanish, AP Biology, and two other irrelevant courses.
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): None really. National Spanish Exam Gold Award Recipient, High Honor Roll, Discus Awards Winner.
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Bible Study, Math Team, Police Station Community Service (Treasurer), National Honor Society, Recycling Club, Chicago Tribune (Student Journalist), Youth Group, Dental Assistant (part-time).
[] Job/Work Experience: Part-time dental assistant, student journalist at the Mash.
[] Volunteer/Community service:Community service through NHS, school, and a local police station. I had about 300 community service hours when I applied.
[] Summer Activities: Summer short-term missions trip, IIT Be Innovators Pre-Business Program, Bible School Teacher (2 summers), Children’s Bible Conference coordinator.
[] Essays:Very well-written according to a private essay tutor who assisted students at my school.
[] Teacher Recommendation: I have no clue, but I’m assuming it was decent.
[] Counselor Rec: Average counselor recommendation.
[] Additional Rec: Excellent recommendation from Northwestern alumnus who is my employer.
[] Interview: I expressed absolute interest in an interview, but there was no option for it.
[] State (if domestic applicant): IL
[] Country (if international applicant): US
[] School Type: Average-sized public school
[] Ethnicity: Hispanic
[] Gender: Male
[]Income Bracket: $90,000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): No hooks! Maybe since my employer did well at Northwestern (millionaire orthodontist) he upped it’s reputation or something. His recommendation probably was my only hook.
[] Strengths: Strong senior course load, good employer recommendation, good essays, turned everything in on time!
[] Weaknesses: Low GPA, average/below-average SAT score.
[] Why you think you were accepted: Expressed extreme interest in attending the school through my why NU essay. I was told by everyone that it was extremely well-written. Strong senior course load and good upward trend in terms of GPA from sucky freshman GPA.
[*] Where else were you accepted: Indiana University Bloomington. I intended on applying to U Penn, Cornell, NYU, U Michigan, U Chicago, Illinois Wesleyan, and a few other schools if I was rejected from NU.

Accepted! Thanks for the helpful posts everybody. See you in the fall fellow wildcats!

does anyone know how to withdraw apps from other colleges if we were accepted under ED?
do we email/call/mail the other colleges we applied to/got accepted in, telling them we have to withdraw?

It is fine to wait for your FA package before withdrawing applications, if that’s relevant to you.

D notified all schools that she was withdrawing her application via e-mail. I think she also called a couple of schools where she had had a great deal of personal contact with department heads who had offered her merit scholarships.

^ Deff a question I had! Thanks.(:

I still haven’t gotten an email…

I just printed out copies of a short letter to each school that I will both email and mail to make sure they receive it. It just reads:

Dear _______ University Admissions,

Thank you for your attention to my application. Please note that I am officially withdrawing my application for the incoming class of 2016 as I was accepted Early Decision at another university. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

School, City, State
Email
Phone number

I’m sending these even to the schools to which I didn’t submit a full application but have probably already made a folder for my transcripts/LoRs/etc. Just thought notifying them as well was the polite thing to do.

Trigirl: Finally got an email (acceptance WCAS!) at 6:30 a.m. but for the past 12 hours it had been in my high school email account “quarantined” emails, which apparently get bunched together by the server and sent to my inbox only periodically. When I looked at the actual email from NU it had been sent at 5:55 p.m. yesterday. So make sure you check that out, if you have a high school email account. I guess my school’s server just sends the quarantined mail at designated times. Good luck and thanks to everyone (especially MomCares for caring). See you in the fall!
