**Official Northwestern 2016 ED Applicants' Discussion Thread**

I agree so much!

Well guys, either 6 days or 12 days left till the big decisions come out! I’m preparing myself for the worse so my feelings won’t be crushed too hard if I’m rejected or deferred. I personally prefer to be flat out rejected rather than being deferred.

@ GoBulls I feel the same way…USF Bulls?

Ahaha nope. Chicago ^_^

@GoBulls Oh, haha…the two “Bulls” in my dad’s life…Chicago and USF. :D

Has the class size grown over years?

Hey! I applied ED and LOVE the school, but I had one last question that no one seems to answer: do you know what it’s like for girls who aren’t in a sorority, party-wise? e.g. are people who aren’t in sororities/frats able to go to Greek parties ?

Thanks!

1) Frat parties are pretty easy for girls to attend, whether they’re Greek-affiliated or not.

2) Fraternity guys love girls who aren’t in sororities. A lot of them actually find it refreshing to date a non-Greek girl.

After Freshman year the Greeks have very little to do with your non-Greek life. There’s plenty to do, plenty of parties that have no connection to Greek life.

@Cassiee - I can only speak for the first quarter of D’s time at NU, but so far she’s had great fun attending both sorority (she may be considering rushing) and frat parties, including some that have been very formal.

She has also enjoyed a steady string of non-Greek parties, both on and off campus, so whatever you do I bet you’ll have FAR more party choices than free time.

Her friends from UMich have even made the journey to NU to sample their famous party hospitality. ;-D

That’s all super helpful. Thank you! :)

^ relieving my stress as well as trying to put more life in this thread. haha just kidding. i just want this thread to be like last years; that was a fun thread to read through.

@Leo16HH i do believe the class sizes have increased. i know that for my school in the past years before 2010 about 40-60 people applied and 10-20 people got in. last year, class of 2011, 82 people applied and 34 got in (i got these facts from naviance).

also has anyone gone to an overnight stay at northwestern? if you have can you please share your experience and what you did there?

@surelyknee Were these all people that applied ED? How were their stats? And I’m super nervous too.

Also, what is the lowest standardized test score that you guys have heard of, that has been received by a person that was accepted to Northwestern. I mean, I know mine isn’t extraordinarily low, but it certainly is in the lower half of Northwestern’s average test score bracket. The thing that really bugs me though, is that my test scores don’t measure my intelligence or school performance at all. According to my teachers, and even my classes and grades, I am much smarter than what those scores show. I hope Northwestern takes that into consideration. Anyone wanna cheer me up? :)

@chrishoward no not all of them got in ED, but i’m pretty sure at least 6 of them got in ED. also test scores aren’t something to be worried about as much. i would say that they look more at your gpa than your test scores.

to cheer you up the lowest grades ever to be accepted from my school is a person who had a 3.7 weighted (so maybe 3.2, 3.3 ish unweighted) with a 25 ACT… i’m guessing he/she had some kind of connection though, because that’s really low. there have been 9 students in the last 4 years that have gotten in with a 30 or less ACT. there have also been 5 students in the last 4 years that have gotten in with a 4.0 weighted GPA or less.

however those students probably had some sort of spark to them. that, or a lot of money. if your GPA is high and your test scores low then i wouldn’t worry as much because like i said they look more at your GPA.

hope i helped!!

Thanks! You certainly did. I hope we both get in! haha

@surelyknee: how many students do you have at your school?! That is alot of applications! Is it private school? We have 1200 students at our school and 25 applied last year and 6 got in. The year before 17 applied and 8 got in.

Everyone from my school that applied got in but seeing as though my school is HUGE (4k) I’m surprised that only 14 people applied! I mean 150 people applied to UChicago. It seems almost incorrect.

My school is a top high school (you go through a college process in 8th grade in Chicago for selective enrollment) in Chicago.

I actually know someone who was admitted last year through RD with a 24 on the ACT. I’m not too exact on how this person’s grades were, but I’m assuming her GPA was around a 3.4 unweighted. She was involved in about 3 EC’s, and her teachers had a lot of great things to say about her. She’s African American, which I’m quite sure came to her benefit of being accepted into NU.

Anyways, I’m really hoping for the decisions to be emailed to us this Friday! I’m just so eager to find out if I’m accepted or not.

haha no the school i go to is a public school with around 3,000 students. it’s a school in the suburbs of chicago, so there’s lots of space for us 3,000 students.

oh i should mention that out of the 34 that were accepted only 10 ended up going to northwestern the next year. for some people northwestern is their backup and yale, harvard, or princeton is their number one so i’m guessing the 24 that didn’t end up going are probably those who had northwestern as a backup. this means that their stats were probably really high, but i do know one of my friends had a 4.0 weighted GPA and a 33 ACT got in RD… i forgot where i was going with this haha i guess just some random stats to share. from my high school i’m guessing they’re going to accept around 5-6 people ED (last year they accepted at least 6, max of 8), and i know 10 people applying ED.

so higher chance to get in ED? i heard one kid talking about how it was harder to get in ED so he’s applying RD… does anyone know if that’s true?

@ScrewedOverx3 that is so true! The selective enrollment high school process has really prepared me for college acceptances/denials. I’m guessing you go to Lane since you said your school is 4k; I go to Lincoln Park :P

@surelyknee same here! Some of my friends view NU as their backup. However, I do not believe that NU can be anyone’s backup because they deny students with perfect grades and test scores all the time
