Official Northwestern class of 2017 RD thread

@rishav, I totally get that, the night before decisions I went to bed at 10, fell asleep at 3, and had a dream about the decision notification haha

Don’t think chances this late in the game icepulse! And that sort of website is so vastly inaccurate you shouldn’t consider what they think. The majority of things that they care about aren’t quantifiable, my SAT was 150 under their average, and my grades were their avg, but that’s just a small part of their decision, they care about your interests, your drive, how much you care about NU, etc. so don’t sweat it and just wait and see!

I hope you’re right SamSaulsbury!

And I was taking Parchment’s predictions into account because their predictions on the other schools I applied to were right.
But at the end of the day I suppose Parchment doesn’t have any idea of essays/personal writing/interests/drive - etc so their results could either be overestimated or underestimated.
I went through an interview and the lady told me that I was the first person in her 25 years of doing alumnus interviews to bring notecards with questions and the interview generally went pretty well, and I spent a considerable amount of time perfecting my essays so I’m hoping that they came through for me.

I worry so much because my stats are pretty much on par with all of the other types of applications that a school like NU gets, so I feel like only the people who particularly stand out statistically get accepted, and most fall to the wayside.
When you think about it, they had an 85% rejection rate last year.
I’m just a pessimist though. :P

@icepulse937

don’t loose hope! seriously, you can’t be thinking about those kind of stats. It sounds like our scores are on par: both on par yet competitive at a school like NU. But honestly, I’m not worried about that. I know that my essay displayed my genuine interest in NU; That means so much more than numbers. From what it sounds like, you’re genuinely interested in NU as well (I can tell from the notecards) and I have no doubt that it showed in your supplement essay. Honestly, don’t get caught up in what might happen. Worrying won’t bring anything. All we can do is wait, and let things be.

@barvoets - Very very true, thank you so much. (:

In any case, if I got rejected then NU wasn’t the direction I was meant to go in. Usually when one door closes, another opens.
There are still other great schools that I have the option of deciding to attend in the event that I got rejected from Northwestern.
Plus, there’s always the option of applying there for graduate school, so not ALL hope is lost!

What college did you apply to and what was your intended major?
I applied to Weinberg for Cognitive Science.

See?! That is how I’m thinking too. While Northwestern isn’t one of my top schools, I still understand what you’re saying. Regardless of what happens, we’ll make the most of it. I know it.

I also applied to Weinberg for International Studies with an adjunct Legal Studies major. Excited to find out decisions!

Really? I’ve always always been interested in International Studies but wasn’t too sure on potential job prospects for it just because I feel like you have to work for the UN or something to get the most out of it financially and interest-wise hahahaha.

Anyone here premed? How do u think the prereq classes will be at NU?

And @icepulse- thanks for the encouragement :slight_smile: means a lot, ESP less than 48 hrs before decisions <3

Is anybody else here looking at computer science and/or economics? Does Northwestern have a good computer science program? I just recently started looking into the possibility of a computer science degree.

@CollectiveGood- I applied for computer science in all of my colleges and Northwestern has one of the lower ranked computer science programs. Places such as UCSD has better ones. I love everything about Northwestern except for the a bit lacking compsci program!

@icepulse- cogsci here too! Haha the parchment numbers are terrifying (they gave me 60%) but then again based on sheer numbers we are all screwed (especially considering how many people were admitted Ed…) Ohwell somebody has to get in so it’s worth a shot:)

So wait - when exactly are decisions coming out? This thread is way too confusing. It’s through a portal right? What day and what time? Thanks

Anyone else apply to MMSS?

According to AnnieZ who posted earlier in this thread, she called and the admissions office said decisions would be out by the end of this week. If that’s Thursday or Friday, that remains to be seen. Consensus seems to be Friday. Last year, they released it on Friday around 6pm est.

Will we be emailed our decisions?

@DiamondFlorence
They will email a link to a page with a letter of acceptance/rejection

is waitlisting as common as deferral ? does anyone know what percent of applicant got waitlisted last year?

There is no deferral in RD, probably between 5-10% will get waitlisted, and NU only defers about 1% of applicants as opposed to most schools which defer the majority of their ED applicants

@commongood- biology major but i’m looking to minor in econ :)

do we have any premeds here?
