@MomCares - I just sent an email to NU admissions with the same question!! It’d be great if they reply in the affirmative!! :)

@rishav17 - even if they don’t have an alum volunteer able/willing to conduct a skype interview (S didn’t love his Oxford skype interview) I bet they will at least note your expressed interest.

Best of luck to you in landing in a college that you love!

ok lets try this then…

@JRswish

NU doesn’t have an application status check, but you can email them to find out if they received your materials.

I’ve never heard of lower acceptance rates for OOS. I would think that it would be easier to get into NU if you are in a state other than Illinois, Texas, and California due to the fact that they want more diversity in their student body. I think that rule is many for public universities such as the ones you mentioned.

The interview guy still hasnt replied to my email!

@rishav pick any college in US - you cannot go wrong. NU is as good as any top 10 engineering program in the country. As for IITs - good luck getting in, but if u do, take it and come to US for grad school.

My S had an interview recently and he told me it was very casual - he thought it was pretty cool that the interviewer did not really ask any canned questions. I am sure NU is now very high on his list for biomed eng.

@Infernalwyrm thanx. 2nd post on http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/149823-how-hard-get-into-uva-unc-oos.html is what i mean when i say UNC is hard for OOS. prolly impossible for intl.
im scared of emailing a uni tho. dont exactly feel comfortable wid formal emails. id much rather call them.

Hey guys!!

Computer Engineering hopeful here, from columbus, ohio!

@matrix007 - I agree that quality of higher education in USA is much better than in India. However each university is different and there might be something you like in one which is not there in another. NU seemed to tick all my boxes and hence it is my first choice!! :)

About the IITs, not that I WILL get in (I am sure I won’t :P), but I highly doubt that I would like it there because I am not one of those who sits in front of a book 24x7 - And that is sadly what the IITs (atleast getting into it) have been reduced to now!

And hopefully I get to do an Interview!! :)

Argh , I can’t do a Skype/telephonic interview!! However, Northwestern Admissions office provided me with the contact of my regional admissions officer!! So yeah, it helped!! :)

Anyone know if I should reply with a thank you after my email query is answered? Or does the “Thanking you” in the previous email suffice??
^ Always had this doubt!!

An additional “Thank you” note never hurt any one thus far :-)

Just wanted to say good luck to all the RD applicants! I know how tough this whole process is, and how nervewracking it can be waiting for results. But I’m sure all of you will do just fine.

On a side note, I’m a current student at NU and I’m LOVING every minute of it. Seriously. Best school on the face of this planet, and with a damn good view of Lake Michigan to top it off.

So I was browsing through the RD Decision stats of 2016 & ED 2017 and looks like applicants with quite a wide range of stats were accepted. My question is, are admissions to some schools in Northwestern University tougher than the others??

From what I observed, Medill seems to have the more choosier acceptances and not many McCormick guys posted their stats on ED 2017!! :p

Can anyone who’s been through the admissions process or anyone with some insight answer whether some schools are tougher to get in than the other??

They don’t really pay attention to school that much. Some would say one is harder than the other, but you should put the school you want to be in, not which you think you’ll be accepted easier in.

^ Yep, that I did. I never thought about acceptances when, I put in my intended school & major. But now that - that chapter of my application is done and dusted, I was curious to know - how the choice of school affects your chances!!

Alright, just making sure you weren’t trying to tailor it to get a better shot. I think that McCormick would probably be a little harder, and obviously Bienen is going to be hard musically, but academically probably the same.

Hey did anyone hear from NorthWestern Undergrad RD for 2017 class?

Decisions for Regular Decision don’t come out until much later. So no, no one has heard back.

Our D applied ED her year, so this is our first time waiting for RD. April seems so far away!
