The admission committee has concluded its evaluation of applicants to Northwestern University. I am sorry we are unable to offer you a place in the freshman class.

Given the relatively small size of the incoming freshman class and the strength of the applicant pool, we cannot admit all of the qualified applicants who apply to Northwestern. You should not feel our decision reflects negatively on you or your potential as a college student. We simply are unable to admit all of the students who present a solid record of achievement.

The task of selecting a class is a difficult one for the admission committee. We carefully reviewed every piece of information you submitted with your application. Unfortunately, we cannot provide specific reasons why each individual decision is made. A Statement from the Dean, linked to this letter, may answer some of your questions about our admission process.

The admission committee appreciates the time and effort you put into applying to Northwestern. I wish you every success as you pursue your education.

What is this code I’m supposed to submit to see my letter? I applied through a scholarship program so I didn’t use the common app, so it can’t be that ID.

Edit- Never mind. Got it to load. Rejected:(

Rejected. 2250 SAT, 4.0 UW GPA, Eagle Scout, class president and president of three other organizations. From poor rural high school. Just giving future readers an idea of the competition.

Reeeeejected, holla. But that was to be expected, considering I had no interview and applied to NU as a thirteenth hour school after being rejected from Stanford SCEA.

Stats since I’m too bitter to post them on the main page: 3.83 UW 4.77 W 2280 SAT, president of an exchange program, varsity debate, 2000 volunteer hours. Yeeee buddy.

The admissions world is crazy and just too bizarre! I was rejected from NU today, but received a likely letter from Brown today as well. hmmm… congrats to everyone admitted though!

Does anyone know the stats for this year? My friend says her rejection letter had specific numbers (number admitted vs number applied), whereas I was accepted, but didn’t see the numbers at all.

@MunC - the key is a CLASS of 2000. They admit more than this number because not everyone admitted will enroll next fall. This is where “yield” comes into play. Last year NU’s yield was 43% so, taking into account ED, they probably accepted in the area of 3800 students in the RD round, for an RD acceptance rate of about 13% (or an overall rate, including the 860 admitted ED, of ~14.5-15%).
