Official Northwestern class of 2017 RD thread

Rishav- South is closer to Evanston, but North is closer to Ryan field. South is more artsy, liberal arts majors (not everyone, but just a generalization), North is mostly frats and engineering/science. North is closer to the main gym, I believe.

To the two people above talking about CRC; I’ve heard it’s not the greatest dorm, so I’d definitely do my research to make sure you like the dorm, not just the communications community of it.

I’m so glad that NU uses gmail for their email system. If it was Outlook, I may have just burnt my computer down. Just a warning though, Caesar (The tool for everything from paying tuition, to registering for classes, etc.) is notoriously poorly designed. Just from my time on it I already hate it. The main screen has some links to things, but then there’s also a tab at the top with some of the links. Once you’ve paid tuition/housing deposit, the button still stays there to pay them. It will close out after random amounts of time, and just generally make you mad. And we’re not even actual students yet…

Thanks @Crimsonstained7! I’m going to visit later in April so I’ll check it out. I think Willard is probably my first choice right now, but I’ll do some more research.

Thanks Crimsonstained7 for a detailed suggestion!

comm17 - I’ve done some more research and so far, Willard is also my first choice!

@crimsonstained - So it’s Evanston vs the Gym! :stuck_out_tongue:
I’m now shifting focus to the Slivka Residential College. It’s in the North and supposedly the 2nd best RC.

I haven’t received my acceptance package yet!!! :frowning:
And hence, not able to check my FA!! This wait is worse than the decisions wait!! Haha. :p

Slivka is really nice, but it’s kind of an anti-social dorm from what I’ve read. Since it’s closed suite, and a lot of engineers and such, they aren’t quite as social.

How did you guys who already know your financial aid awards find out about them?

And if I can’t find out until tomorrow, how will I find out then? Does NU send an email, or do I check some portal or what?

@endlessroad – yeah I’m also looking at Shepard - it seems pretty good other than the fact that it doesn’t have a dining hall. Does anyone know more about it (other than what you can find out on the website)?

@thatrunnEr–we saw ours on the Caesar portal. We didn’t receive any FA info via email.

Thanks, @tougis.

My FA sucks though. $50,000 in loans but no grant money.

Also, my EFC was $10,000 less at USC than at NU. Do you think I should appeal?

Anyone going to Wildcat days on the 21st - 23rd?
If I get enough aid then I’m definitely going.

No I’m going the 15th

@comm17 – nice! what major are you planning to take at the school of comm?

@thatrunnerkid, you can appeal and you should. Do make sure you have all the relevant documents to justify your case.

@NorthwesternDad, thank you. Do you think I should have FA info from other non-USC schools (where my EFC was lower than it was for NU but I got no aid) on hand too?

@endlessroad - I’m going to be an RTVF major

@thatrunnerkid, take all that you think will boost your case and that includes FA from other schools. Typically though, NU will match and/or do better than their peer schools. But hey, you don’t lose anything by trying your best. All the best.

@comm17 – I was admitted to communication studies but I plan to change my major to RTVF once I enroll!

@endlessroad oh cool! Are you going to visit campus?

@comm17 – yes! I am planning to visit on April 22nd (the last Wildcat Day).

@endlessroad cool! I’m going to visit on the 17th and do an overnight. I wish I could go to a WildCat day but I scheduled my flights before I knew about it :(
