Official Northwestern class of 2017 RD thread

@comm17 that is too bad… it would have been nice to see you at the Wildcat Day. Hopefully, I will get to see you at the New Student Orientation! :)

Do you guys know if we can change our major over the summer/before school starts, or should we wait until we get there? Thanks, and congrats to everyone who’s going to be a Wildcat next fall!

Hi guys,

I’m an applicant from india and I was waitlisted. Do you guys think that if I visit the campus, my chances to get off the wait list will improve?

@focus08 - NO. It won’t.
Plus why do you want to take a trip from (wherever you are) in India to Evanston, for the sole purpose of trying to boost your chances of getting in off a wait list? It’s foolishness.

If you’re trying to show interest, you can always write them an e-mail or two. They realize that being in India, it is not feasible for you to visit.

Also, Northwestern wait lists are quite difficult. You should try updating your application with any new and relevant stuff that may help your chances. :)

All the best!

@crimsonstained - I’ve read about that too. Looks like each RC/Dorm has its ow pros and cons.

Hi rishav!

Thanks for that reply. So I’ve been waitlisted at Penn, Cornell and Northwestern - I was considering to visit all 3, if I do go to USA. I intend on updating my application and sending them a letter as well.

Thanks again!

@endlessroad yeah, is there a student orientation during the summer or is it just the wildcat welcome week in september?

@comm17 - I don’t think there’s anything in summer.

@focus - Ahh, that kinda sucks.
If you’re going to USA for a vacation or something - then you can maybe visit the school(s). However, visiting them won’t help your application much.

Ok. So I am in bit of a soup now. And I need advice real quick.

The fin aid decision’s been a bummer

My parents’ yearly income is 27,800 $
My parents’ savings are 90,000 $

And I have been given no aid. :(

how do I go about the appeals process??

@comm17 – it is the wildcat welcome week in September!

@rishav17 - Bummer! It looks like NUs aid to international students must be less than for domestic students, which we have found very generous this year. It can’t hurt to appeal, with a special emphasis on documenting anything that’s changed in your financial situation since your application.

@rishav17 and @endlessroad – thanks, that’s what I thought

did any accepted students to SoC (School of Communication) join the Northwestern FB page?

endlessroad - I sent a request to the official one but haven’t been accepted yet

comm17 - same here! It seems like they are letting people in once every few weeks.

Good luck, Rishav!

Endlessroad, they just got back from Spring Break. Decisions were released the Thursday before. There hasn’t even been an “every few weeks” yet :stuck_out_tongue: I assume they will let pretty much everyone in soon.

crimsonstained7 - cheers.

@rishav17, I would suggest you to document (with proof) that your parents’ savings are for their retirement, other miscellaneous items, and such. You may want to explore the possibility of having a phone conversation (since you are in India currently) with the FA officer and your parents along with yourself. You can always scan and email these documents prior. The sooner you act on this, the better it is. The very best to you.

rishav17,

This seems very strange. Did they mistake you as internationals that don’t need FA?

MomCares,
Actually, from what I understand, NU takes FA into consideration for internationals and it’s therefore a lot harder to get in for those that ask for FA. The acceptance there should come with the FA.

I’m an admitted student, but I haven’t received any CAESAR account information yet. Is this normal, or should I contact Northwestern about it?
