****OFFICIAL Northwestern CLASS OF 2019 Discussion Thread****

Guys, about 1,000 people will be admitted early decision or 30% of the applicant pool… I have not seen 1,000 scores on here above a 34. Make sure to keep things in perspective. You also have to remind yourself that scores are only a small part of the process and really don’t mean anything if you don’t have a strong course load and GPA to back it up. And then you have the essays and recommendations, which can have a really large impact. So, you really shouldn’t worry about the scores too much–they aren’t even that low! I’m sure you have other things going for you :)

true! thanks @etphonehome2015 . actually, last year NU admitted 45% of their freshman class from the ED pool and they expect to keep it that way. really all we can do is wait.

@etphonehome2015‌ Thanks, but I would like to remind all of us that the community on CC doesn’t represent all of the applicants applying to NU definitely, so I’m sure the number will be much bigger than what we see as awesome scored applicants. However, thanks for the comfort!

@stressedjunior15‌ I applied to UMich EA but they didn’t record some of the materials on time, so I’m considered late (hell.), so that makes one regular. I’m planning to apply to Ivies, but it greatly depends on my SAT Dec score. What’s your connection with NU apart from the visit? Legacy? If it’s legacy then I’m fairly certain you’ll be in. And where did you get the 45% data? That definitely sounds nice!

btw didn’t you say you’re a junior???

Too bad I’m international :frowning: Harsh for the GPA and course load calculation.

@‌alafae “Northwestern admitted 925 early decision applicants Thursday evening, filling about 45 percent of the class of 2018.” it’s from a Daily Northwestern article. I’d copy and paste the link but i’m on mobile right now.
I dont have legacy sadly, but while i was at NU this summer they said that 50% of kids from my program who end up applying to NU get in. So I’m just waiting until Dec. 15 haha.
I made this account last year when i was a junior. The 15 is for class of 2015. Sorry that its misleading haha, but im a senior. Sorry about your UMich app.

@stressedjunior15‌ Correct me if I’m wrong…I saw a previous threat you’ve made within this year that says you’re junior? Pardon my curiosity!

I just found that page out too, but “filling about 45 percent of the class of 2018” doesn’t mean the acceptance rate is 45% because there are definitely less places than the number of applicants.

Good luck to your app then! Sounds pretty legit that you got through that program, but just keep in mind that 50% might be accounted for the unusual percentage of students actually applying to NU from that program too! Perhaps more than 80% kids from that program applied, thus a higher acceptance rate within.

@alafae I haven’t posted much, but i did last year when i was applying to my summer program. But I’m definitely a senior this year.
The ED acceptance rate is around 30%. I agree with you that filling 45% of the freshman class from ED doesn’t make the acceptance rate 45%; i just thought it was an interesting fact.
The actual stats breakdown from kids from my program goes like this:
Out of 80 kids in the program, 60 end up applying to NU. 30 get accepted. Of the 60 that apply, around 40 of those are ED.
Anyway, i like pouring over admissions stats and facts. I just hate waiting until the 15th.

@stressedjunior15‌ Wow you definitely got the data for everything! Nevertheless, all the datas you’ve quoted seem cheery to our situation of the painful wait lol. Let’s just keep each other posted when the TIME COMESSSSSS!

Sorry about the inquiry about ur grade!

@alafae its fine! I should’ve considered a better username when i made this account, haha.

@stressedjunior15‌ Nah it’s fine haha, I just reconsidered the meaning of your account name after seeing your threads and got confused :pensive:

Does anyone know if I apply to Dual Degree between School of Communication and Bienen, and I get accepted to Bienen with scholarship, does it help a tiny little bit for the admission to communication? Like just in case I’m at the boundary of them accepting me or not, and then saw the admission decision from Bienen…and will reconsider my app?

Do the specific schools accept applicants?

Can I apply to more than one school?

@veganrunner96‌

Yes, the specific schools accept the applicants. However, you cannot apply to more than one school. You can, however, double major between schools once accepted (save the theatre program, to which you have to apply directly).

Did everybody receive the email titled ‘Diversity, Inclusion and You’?

Also, did any of you guys interview? I did, and I believe that it went fantastic. I just want to know how important this could be in determining my admittance.

I got the email titled “diversity. …” I think its just a generic letter to everyone. No?

@yes1112 I was just wondering. Did you apply ED?

Yeah, my application was completed on 11/24.

@alafae @siphwe i don’t think we need to worry about that ACT email after all- one of my other friends who got it said he received the email before he even turned in his writing supplement :stuck_out_tongue: also the guy with the best chance of getting into NU at my school didn’t get it either so we should be good

@yes1112‌ what do you mean by your application was completed?

Yeah you guys shouldn’t worry about the ACT email because I got mine in July which is way before I sent in my application
@veganrunner96‌ Northwestern sends you an email to let you know that your application is complete and not missing anything and is under review
