Looking at my son’s school scattergram, nobody from his school has gotten into Northwestern in many years. Looks like lots have applied, all been denied (even those with scores up in the stratosphere.)
My son really loved Northwestern and had a great interview last month. However, I pointed out to him that it seems Northwestern is not a fan of his high school.
Is the school history of rejections a pretty good predictor that the trend will continue (and he will receive his rejection?)
@Artist2233 it’s possible your school got blacklisted for some reason. Or maybe none of the students who applied were deemed to be a good fit for Northwestern.
S16’s high school was in the same boat where it seems none of their stellar full IB students were accepted into top tier schools. He points to another regional school district who have the opposite experience with their full IB kids. Besides not a good fit, it might have to do with school ratings. In the end though, it all seems like a crapshoot. So @tanag123413242, it’s really hard to answer your question. I’d like to think that they really look an application holistically and that “fit” (as seen in essays???- who knows) becomes more of a tiebreaker when a lot of the applicants have amazing stats.
My son was admitted last year (ED) and was the first from his school to be admitted in many years. Turns out they ended up admitting TWO kids from his class last year (the other kid accepted RD), after no one getting in for 10+ years. Who knows why or what changed. Maybe a new regional rep was more open or maybe there was something interesting that stood out in the applications. As an aside, the alumni who interviewed my son told us at a summer mixer for accepted students that she has been interviewing for over 10 years and had a total of 3 accepted. Feel bad for the alumni interviewers who donate so much time and energy and get invested in these exceptional applicants, only to seem them rejected over and over. Just not enough spots.
I’ve been trying to fill out my isp application but it seems that the application itself isn’t well made. How can I specify the type of engineering/other subjects that I’m interested in? Does anyone know?
ISP application form is just for ISP program. Northwestern (common app) application is where you mention your engineering interest. If you get admitted to both NU and ISP, you can double major in ISP and Engineering/CS/Econ/any other Science Majors.
