General Comments:
Glad to be part of the class off 2020, just bought some sweatshirts for xmas

@Medillpickle congrats!!! love your name by the way!

So the general consensus is that the results will be sent out on Tuesday, not anytime before?

Also, good luck to everyone else … even if you are my competitors!

@shuab15 Yeah most likely Tuesday by 5PM CST. Some people on the discussions page are logging into their portals https://ugadmission.northwestern.edu/account/login which may reveal the decision earlier than when the e-mails will be sent out. who knows

Wait how would you already have an account for the portal? I thought when they emailed you they would give you the information…

I did reset password and it gave me a temporary pin to use

I did that too but all it says it “Application Status” and my name

Non-Questbridge applicant just got email to log in.

[
] Strengths: Common app essay. That’s literally about it haha.
[] Weaknesses: Grades, SAT Subject Test scores, SAT Scores, ACT Scores, Class rank, basically everything haha!
[
] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: ZERO Demonstrated interest, mediocre stats
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:[/ul] Accepted into TAMU. Applying Emory ED II, UT Austin- McCombs, u.Va, Boston College, UNC, USC, NYU.[/li]
General Comments: Show demonstrated interest and don’t write a crappy supplement! I think my wishy-washy stats paired with absolutely zero demonstrated interest got me the flat-out rejection. I feel like I might’ve fell into the trap of going for the prestige game - I was more interested in Northwestern for it’s prestige and it’s location in Chicago. I had plans to apply to Emory ED for literally months, but at the last minute I decided NU. I have this itchy feeling that Emory would have been a better fit anyways. (It’s f***ing cold in Chicago dude!)

EMORY IM SORRY FOR NEGLECTING YOU AND NOT APPLYING ED1 PLEASE TAKE ME HAHA

Summer Activities: Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (six years), 4-H Great Lakes and Natural Resources Camp, and this will be my second year attending the Blue Lake International Exchange Program in Europe.
Essays: 9.5/10 common app. I wrote about my fear of speaking and the steps I am taking to overcome it. 8/10 Northwestern statement, wrote about my wish to join the school’s great alumni. Not to blow my own horn, but I’m an awesome writer. Part of the reason I’m applying as an English major haha.
Teacher Recommendation: Didn’t read it, but she likes me and knows me well so I’m assuming it’s pretty good.
Counselor Rec: Pretty good, I’d say 8/10. She loves me.
Additional Rec: 7/10. The lady who wrote it is one of my 4-H leaders and has known me for almost ten years, but it was pretty clear she’d never written a rec before. Still, not bad.

School Type: Small rural public school, ~550 students.
Ethnicity: White

Reflection

Strengths: ACT/AP score, EXTRACURRICULARS!, writing ability, recs
Weaknesses: class rank/GPA, hooks
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I had a really well-rounded app. My stats were pretty good and I think I showed a lot of my personality through my extracurriculars and essays. I also demonstrated a lot of growth on my transcript (went from a mix of A’s and B’s freshman year to straight A’s junior year), and I took the absolute most difficult classes my school would allow.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I didn’t apply anywhere else, but if I didn’t get in to Northwestern as an English major I was probably going to apply to the University of Oregon as a music major.
General Comments: I honestly was not expecting to get in. This is the absolute best thing that has ever happened to me academically. I’m super excited for next fall. Go wildcats!

I spent sophomore year doing online school so I could travel and perform with my competition group for Irish music, so I talked about the hardships with leaving school, working on Irish music (which I was unfamiliar with before that year) and the rigor of online school. Why NU essay was pretty generic but I included what my plans for the future are after having a NU education.

Job/Work Experience: Leader at a summer club, tennis instructor for the local park and rec, private tutoring
Summer Activities: Did a 2 week summer seminar at NU this past summer
Essays: Honestly, I thought my supplement could have been more specific, only one professor name-drop and I was general about the types of fields I wanted to pursue. I talked about NU as a whole, general statistics that everyone has access to, 7/10. My Common App essay was very well written but more education/career based than anything, I thought it could have been more personal, so 8/10.
Teacher Recommendation: Not sure how to judge these but they were pretty solid, I would say a 9/10 for both my AP Lit and Honors/AP Chem teacher.
Counselor Rec: Never read this, my counselor and I are extremely close and she really felt NU was right for me, 10/10.

Where else were you accepted: Minnesota and Indiana w/ their rolling decisions, held off on applying to other schools because NU ED is binding
General comments: If you’re really interested in an elite school, VISIT, spend part of your summer there, get to know everything about the school!

Subjective:
Extracurriculars: nothing really special, school didn’t have any 9/10 grade, moved junior year so no leadership positions
Job/Work Experience: none
Summer Activities: lab internship
Essays: 8/10? 9/10? Not really sure how to critique my own essay. Some people really liked it, others not so much…
NU supplement I would give a 9/10 or 10/10 though. I hate my own writing but really liked my supp.
Teacher Recommendation: No clue. Both teachers had me only for a year, they both liked me but I procrastinated a ton in both of their classes so… Also I submitted both social science teachers - I’m an engineering applicant. Probably not a good idea.
Counselor Rec: probably just average? she knows I was really ambitious for an international student, maybe that played a role?
Additional Rec: lab professor, I read it and it was pretty good but no clue how good/bad everything is
Interview: yup! recently graduated alum, he was cool and we ended up talking for over an hour. I was super nervous + I’m an awkward human being so not sure what he thought of me…

Strengths: essays, definitely INTEREST, gpa, high toefl?, scores, maybe recs and participation after moving countries?
Weaknesses: ECs, awards, recs?
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I REALLY HAVE NO CLUE. trying to be involved in a lot after moving? Korean schools had no ec’s and you couldn’t choose what classes you took so after I moved I tried to take a lot of different classes. maybe that’s why?
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to Purdue Engineering

SO EXCITED! (Nervous because I still haven’t received an ‘official’ email from NU, but I won’t worry about that till tomorrow)
