[ b]General Comments:**

Decision: Waitlisted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown):
[] ACT: 32
[] SAT II:
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.97
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1 of 347
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): World History (5), US History (5), AP English Language (5)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis):
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Physics, AP Bio, AP Calc, AP English Lit, Journalism, Practical Law, Band
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Nothing too major, state academic/athletic award, AP Scholar, outstanding social studies award, etc.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Varsity Swimming (Captain), Quiz Bowl (Captain), NHS (Treasurer), Newspaper (Editor-in-Chief), Marching Band (Section Leader), Pit Band.
[] Job/Work Experience: Filming football games
[] Volunteer/Community service: A bunch of stuff with NHS. Tutoring, blood drives, canned food drives, etc.
[] Summer Activities: Swimming
[] Essays: I think I expressed a lot of interest and my personal essay was on a pretty deep level. Probably the strongest part of my app.
[] Teacher Recommendation: I read one of them and I thought it was excellent. It was a teacher I’ve had more than once and he explained how he’s seen me mature over the last few years. The other was probably really good too, the teacher likes me a lot.
[] Counselor Rec: Dunno, good I think.
[] Additional Rec: None
[] Interview: Thought it went well, but I kind of felt as if the person interviewing me didn’t care too much about me, she was all like “any questions about Northwestern?”

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): Michigan
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Large public
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: >100k
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None whatsoever
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Essays, recommendations, extra-curriculars.
[] Weaknesses: TEST SCORES, no amazing awards, white male.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My test scores were comparably low, and I didn’t have any SAT II. In hindsight, I should have taken them. But hindsight vision is always 20/20 so oh well.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Waitlisted: University of Chicago and Washington University in St. Louis (I kind of want to cry). Accepted: University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Northeastern, Grand Valley (w/ a Presidential Scholarship)

[/ul]General Comments: Well, I’m really disappointed because I kind of feel like I would have gotten in if I had been born a year earlier. This was my top choice, I should have applied ED and I feel stupid for not doing so. My plans are completely falling through.

Decision: Accepted

[ *] Essays: I thought my common app was good, my NW supplement was kinda cobbled together though. I worked on it forever but couldn’t make it sound the way I want it.
[ *] Teacher Recommendation: Great–I think (waived rights)
[ *] Counselor Rec: Homeschooled, so my mom wrote it–not sure how seriously they take that
[ *] Additional Rec: n/a
[ *] Interview: n/a

[ *] State (if domestic applicant): MN
[ *] Country (if international applicant):
[ *] School Type: Homeschooled (but took most classes online)
[ *] Ethnicity: White
[ *] Gender: Male
[ *]Income Bracket: up there
[ *] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None really

[ *] Strengths: Extra curriculars & GPA
[ *] Weaknesses: NW supplement essay, SAT I & II, and the fact that I was never able to officially visit/tour (coming from MN, that’s a pathetic excuse)
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Caucasian midwesterner who didn’t show enough interest is my guess…
[ *] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted at Fairfield, Creighton, Macalester, Carnegie Mellon…have not heard yet from Brown, Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth, Cornell, Amherst, Williams, Claremont McKenna, Davidson, or Georgetown
[ b]General Comments: It’s my first rejection…so yeah I’m disappointed, a bit surprised, and nervous since I haven’t heard from many others yet. Definitely regret not ever being able to visit officially, and probably should have taken SAT I & IIs more than once–I completely ran out of time. Not sure if being homeschooled worked against or for me. Anyways, I heard it was a record number of applicants, along with the fact that they intended to downsize their incoming freshmen numbers, so that takes the sting out of it a little. Congrats to all those who were accepted!

[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted: Boston College (honors), Tulane (honors), UMiami (honors), URichmond (full tuition scholarship). Waitlisted: Wesleyan. Rejected: MIT, UChicago [/ul][/li]General Comments: I AM SO EXCITED RIGHT NOW!!! This was so unexpected, and I just can’t believe it. It feels really good, especially since UChicago rejected me today and Wesleyan waitlisted me. I’m still waiting on a few, but Northwestern is one of my top choices!!! I’ve learned that admissions to top schools is just so random throughout this process. Congrats to all who were accepted! To those that were rejected or waitlisted, I know it hurts because I’ve experienced it firsthand. However, I believe everyone will end up where they’re supposed to be. Keep your chin up and understand that other great schools will appreciate your accomplishments!

[] Additional Rec:
[] Interview: I think it went really well! Only lasted 30 minutes because she had other interviews planned, but I think it was one of my best college interviews for sure.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): Florida
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Large public
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male

[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Still waiting to hear from other colleges, so far only been accepted to University of Florida.[/ul][/li]General Comments: So excited!!
