[] Strengths: I think my ECs were pretty strong and journalism-centered, really conveying my passion for writing and journalism (I applied to Medill). I had hoped that the adcom would see my consistent interest and dedication to what I loved doing, which I also described well in my essays… or so I thought.

[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Grades and SAT scores. Could also possibly be teacher recs. I’m now realizing that those are really important to help colleges establish an impression of who you are outside of your stats, and I could’ve done more to get to know my teachers.

[/ul]General Comments: Not entirely surprised, but obviously this is not what I wanted to hear back from Northwestern. I’m not as crushed as I thought I would be though… I wasn’t that excited for Northwestern results, but… my soul is still bleeding. A Horcrux has been created.

Waitlisted, Weinberg. I’m too lazy/discouraged to fill out the entire form, but here’s everything important:

White male, 32 ACT, 4.0 UW GPA, most rigorous courseload, 4.4 W GPA, class rank: 4 out of about 450, AP Scholar with Distinction, 740/770 Math II/Chem SAT II, decent EC’s, decent rec’s, good essays.

I’m pretty depressed now. It was probably my top school, and I’m not sure what I’m gonna do now. I’ve been waitlisted at Wash U, Rice, and now NU, accepted at UVA. Still waiting on Vandy, Duke, Cornell, and Dartmouth, but I’m not feeling so good about any of them for obvious reasons.

I’m unsure whether I should accept a spot on the waitlist. I mean, it is probably my top school, but I don’t know if I really want to go through the whole waitlist thing and wait even more. Does anyone know how financial aid works if you do get in off the waitlist? Family income is <60,000, so I have a large amount of need.
