[] Counselor Rec: Really great, she really likes me
[] Additional Rec: N/A
[] Interview: none

[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Female
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I think my ECs were pretty strong and journalism-centered, really conveying my passion for writing and journalism (I applied to Medill). I had hoped that the adcom would see my consistent interest and dedication to what I loved doing, which I also described well in my essays… or so I thought.
[] Weaknesses: Grades and SAT scores. ):
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Grades and SAT scores. Could also possibly be teacher recs. I’m now realizing that those are really important to help colleges establish an impression of who you are outside of your stats, and I could’ve done more to get to know my teachers.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to UCI, UCD, UCSD, UCLA, BU! Rejected from UPenn.
[/ul]General Comments: Not entirely surprised, but obviously this is not what I wanted to hear back from Northwestern. I’m not as crushed as I thought I would be though… I wasn’t that excited for Northwestern results, but… my soul is still bleeding. A Horcrux has been created.
Hoping that people can use my stats to help them with their Northwestern app process. Good luck to those who are applying and congrats to those who got in! (:

Waitlisted, Weinberg. I’m too lazy/discouraged to fill out the entire form, but here’s everything important:

White male, 32 ACT, 4.0 UW GPA, most rigorous courseload, 4.4 W GPA, class rank: 4 out of about 450, AP Scholar with Distinction, 740/770 Math II/Chem SAT II, decent EC’s, decent rec’s, good essays.

I’m pretty depressed now. It was probably my top school, and I’m not sure what I’m gonna do now. I’ve been waitlisted at Wash U, Rice, and now NU, accepted at UVA. Still waiting on Vandy, Duke, Cornell, and Dartmouth, but I’m not feeling so good about any of them for obvious reasons.

I’m unsure whether I should accept a spot on the waitlist. I mean, it is probably my top school, but I don’t know if I really want to go through the whole waitlist thing and wait even more. Does anyone know how financial aid works if you do get in off the waitlist? Family income is <60,000, so I have a large amount of need.

Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): didn’t take
[] ACT: 35 (35 E, 34 M, 34 R, 35 S, 11 W)
[] SAT II: didn’t send, but they were rushed and thus modest (730 Literature and 740 U.S. History I think?)
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.832 academic (we operate on a 5.0 scale though)
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): no rank, but in top 5%
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): English Language 5, US History 5, Macro 4
[] IB (place score in parenthesis):
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP English Literature, AP Spanish Language, AP Spanish Literature, AP World History, AP Calculus AB, Honors Physics
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Questbridge Finalist, Brown Book Award, some debate awards
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): 2 years Spanish Honor Society (president), 3 years Mock Trial team (captain), 4 years debate (vice-president), student-tutoring, 3 years school newspaper (editor senior year), 2 years MUN, and some other scattered activites
[] Job/Work Experience: Worked two jobs last summer
[] Volunteer/Community service: Volunteered as a teacher at a Pakistani school and at a Latino Progress Center
[] Summer Activities: work and volunteering really
[] Essays: I had them all edited by teachers and tutors–something that really made the difference. I thought my main commonapp one was very genuine, light-hearted, and showed how curious I am about everything. The teacher who read my Why Northwestern? one (who is also an alum) told me it was one of the best she’d read.
[] Teacher Recommendation: One of them told me I was in the top 4 of his career and the other sponsored me for many awards. I think they loved me.
[] Counselor Rec: As good as a counselor who somewhat-knows-you-but-not-really can write. I’m sure he wrote nice things!
[] Additional Rec:
[li] Interview: didn’t have one
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): IL
[] Country (if international applicant):

[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Questbridge Finalist!!!
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I really believe that my essays and recommendations made me stand out. I think I’m a good writer so I tried my best to reflect my unique personality and passion in my essays. I also chose teachers who I knew absolutely loved me. I was very lucky to have such amazing relationships with these teachers!
[] Weaknesses: GPA? Perhaps not enough leadership?
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Honestly I think it was because I had a strong voice in my essays and through my teachers’ recommendations. Questbridge also helped a ton.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted: University of Chicago, American University, BU. Waitlisted: George Washington University (lol? can anyone explain?). Rejected: none so far. Waiting on a few Ivies and some small LOCs (HYPS, U Penn, Pomona College, Williams College, and Georgetown). [/ul]
