[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Dartmouth likely letter, Swarthmore early write acceptance, UChicago waitlist, thus far

[/ul]General Comments:

It’s very interesting, accepted with no STEM ECs or awards :). But I did clearly express why I applied to McCormick and what I wanted to pursue in the context of engineering. Maybe a non-STEM-activity-oriented applicant stood out in the applicant pool as well?

Got accepted to NU and waitlisted by UC on the same day. I know some others who were also accepted by one of the two and waitlisted by the other. My parents and I have been joking that maybe there’s some collaboration going on between them, or maybe some school quotas? Who knows, these things are fickle.

Obviously, though, I’m still pretty happy with this, NU is a great school, although I will be weighing against several other great options as well, so I’m not really sure where I stand as of now.

Volunteer/Community service: I am the photographer for my local Chabad (Jewish Temple).
Summer Activities: I attended computer tech camps and went on international leadership seminars.
Essays: CommonApp essay about a trip to Auschwitz and being tolerant to anti-Semitism, even though it greatly angers me. I also spoke about how I came home to my international youth movement (BBYO) and started a movement about treating hatred with tolerance. My supplement was very genuine, talked about the quarter system, Evanston, and the 5 year dual degree program. I had also spoken to my admissions rep two times and he knew how much I love NU.
Teacher Recommendation: My teachers, who wrote my recs, and I have very close and personal relationships, I’m sure they were great.

Reflection
Strengths: Spoke to my admissions rep twice, he and I got along very well. I also composed a string quintet, which was performed at a school concert, for my Advanced Comp class.
Weaknesses: no interview, there are plenty of other stronger candidates than myself.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I am shocked, couldn’t tell you.

Reflection
[] Strengths: Essays, Recs and IB Scores.
[] Weaknesses: SAT scores…
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think I was rejected because of the strong competition. I’m an international student and the number of places offered for those in my area and school are pretty limited. Much better qualified students I suppose but I thought I had a shot of getting in because I was really keen on going! Ahh well (: Sometimes things do not work out the way you want them to.
[/li]

General Comments: Congrats to those who were accepted! Really happy for you all (: Northwestern really is a wonderful school. The campus is GORGEOUS too! For those who didn’t get in, I know how you feel. Things will work out though (: All the best as you wait for the rest of your offers!

@foreverarianaaa I’m waiting and hoping for Brown too! All the best :D

[ ] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Journalism. I’ve had extensive involvement with it and helped completely turn turn around the quality of my high school newspaper. Spent a tone of time after school alone working on it. It’s almost became a full time job for me, and I’ve demonstrated a lot of leadership. The people who wrote my recs are aware of what I’ve done and probably made it very clear in their recs how dedicated I was to the newspaper. Also studied it at a Northwestern summer program for 5 weeks.
[ ] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Legacy also helped
[ b]General Comments:
This year was a really tough year, and a lot of extremely qualified kids didn’t get in. I think my acceptance goes to show that there’s a lot more to it than grades. I got in because of my leadership in my EC’s, not because of my grades. I think it came down to who Northwestern thought could make the best contribution to their school - innovative students. All the qualified kids who didn’t get in will find their niche elsewhere and will make the best of it. I’m happy it came together in the end for me.
