**Official Northwestern RD Decisions 2014**

Accepted to WCAS!!! Post stats later~~

Just for laughs. The activity director at my school begged me to apply to Northwestern, and he’s an alum. Said he’d write a great letter. Only finished half of it. Never submitted. Jerk. Lol. I last minute decided to apply b/c I didn’t wanna go to UMich and knew I would rather apply to NU.

accepted to wcas!! :D

Decision: ACCEPTED

STATS:

-SAT: 2390 (800 CR, 790 M, 800 CR)
-SAT IIs: Lit 720, Math II 770, US Hist 770
-ACT: 33, but didn’t send it…
-GPA: 4.88/5, 3.90/4
-Rank: school doesn’t rank
-Other stats: Awards? National Merit Finalist, Bausch & Lomb Scholarship, NCTE Writing Award, etc.

SUBJECTIVE

-Essays: They weren’t brilliant, but I think they were pretty good.
-Teacher Recs: I don’t know, but my guess is that my two teachers wrote excellent recs…they both recommended me for corresponding awards and seemed to like me…
-Counselor Rec: I assume that this was good as well…I know my counselor pretty well…
-Hook (if any): My writing? My English teacher probably wrote an excellent rec, I won an English writing award, and I think my essays were decent.

LOCATION/PERSON

-State or Country: Illinois
-School Type: Large public (2500+ students)
-Ethnicity: Asian
-Gender: Female
-Major Strength/Weakness: Essays, Recs, Test Scores/No crazy leadership positions in extracurriculars…or extracurriculars at all for that matter…
-Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: I think my stats were pretty solid. I’m also a legacy (My dad went there for undergrad…he hated it, though).
-Going to attend?: I don’t think so. I’ve been accepted to other schools (UChicago, UCB Engineering, UMich, and UIllinois Engineering) and even though I like Northwestern a lot, my dad really really really doesn’t want me to go…

OTHER FACTORS

-Extra-curriculars: I was in plenty, but was never super involved. (My greatest involvement was as a board member for my school’s environmental club. For everything else, though, I was mainly a participant…)
-Interviews: It was my first interview. I think it went okay…not outstanding in any way
-Comments: Though I think I had a good shot at Northwestern in general, I think the clincher was my status as a legacy. :/

lovelyinkwell: i don’t think the legacy was the main part. your test scores are stellar! and so is your GPA.

Decision: REJECTED

-Essays: Common App was good I think. My “Why Northwestern” essay was probably a little lackluster given I have never visited the campus, and wasn’t able to really color it with that experience.
-Teacher Recs: Didn’t read, but I assume good but nothing out of the ordinary.
-Counselor Rec: Same.
-Hook (if any): National Merit Finalist (not really a hook, but I figured I should say it somewhere)

OTHER FACTORS

-Extra-curriculars: A ton of theater and theater related ECs, a fair amount of volunteering, some work.
[*]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I am so happy that NU looked past my lack of tons of AP’s (my school doesn’t offer many and places limits on when you can take them). I don’t know… my essays I think were great and my GPA/SATs are really good. I am SO EXCITED I cannot wait to visit in the next few weeks. Congrats to everyone that got in and don’t worry if you didn’t - I was rejected from UNC Chapel Hill so honestly the process is so ridiculous.
