STATS:

-SAT: 2120 (640 M/740 CR/740 W)
-SAT IIs: 790 USH/ 740 Lit/ 720 Math 1
-ACT
-GPA: 94.2/100 W
-Rank: no rank in school
-Other stats: 5 on APUSH, 4 on AP Comp, very rigorous curriculum

SUBJECTIVE

-Essays: Common app one was decent, a little artsy and probably not as good as it could have been. Why NU essay was good, I think, but generic.
-Teacher Recs: One probably excellent, one good, never read either.
-Counselor Rec: Very good.
-Hook (if any): Immigrant (Russia), bilingual? Art school. Nothing particularly exciting.

LOCATION/PERSON

-State or Country: NYC
-School Type: Large, competitive public arts school
-Ethnicity: White
-Gender: Female
-Major Strength/Weakness: Rigorous curriculum, good grades, however quite average SAT (esp. math) and GPA for NU and just not enough interest.
-Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: Didn’t show enough interest, had very average grades for their stats, and no exciting hooks or notable accomplishments to get me out of the “average” pool.
-Going to attend?: N/A lol

OTHER FACTORS

-Extra-curriculars: Karate for 4 years, school art magazine for 3, library volunteer
-Comments: I’m not surprised, and to be honest I don’t care that much. It was my one very reach school and probably the one I was also least interested in attending, so my application was very much on a whim. Congrats to all who got in though, and good luck to all the rest of us! :)

I just wanted to brag on my best friend who just got accepted for Trumpet Performance(which if you are unaware is arguably the best in the nation and they only pick 4-5 undergraduates a year)

**Decision: ACCEPTED (WCAS) **

STATS:

-ACT 33
-GPA weighted 4.3 unweighted 3.9
-Rank: my school doesn’t rank but probably in top 5%

-Counselor Rec: again not sure but probably good
-Hook (if any): not any real hook

LOCATION/PERSON

-State or Country:CA
-School Type:public
-Ethnicity:Hispanic
-Gender:female
-Major Strength/Weakness:lots of ECs and good essay (strength) but I didn’t think that I stood out that much (weakness)
-Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: luck and being Hispanic probably helped
-Going to attend?: not sure, Northwestern was my number one for a long time but recently I’ve grown really attatched to Duke. We’ll see what happens.

OTHER FACTORS

-Extra-curriculars: ballet since I was three, work two jobs, peer tutored
-Comments: I feel really lucky. College admissions are such a crap shoot and my number was the one that got picked I guess. Congrats to everyone else who got in! For those who didn’t get in don’t be discouraged, I got into Northwestern but didn’t get into Claremont McKenna (not disappointed I was never really that attached to the school anyways) which just shows that college admissions are really random.

ACCEPTED!

OTHER FACTORS

-Extra-curriculars: run of the mill
-Comments: grats and good luck!

Decision: ACCEPTED - Weinberg School

STATS:

-SAT IIs: US History 690, Spanish 660, Literature 700
-ACT 33
-GPA 4.5 weighted, ~3.8-3.9 unweighted
-Rank: unknown, but top 10% in a Catholic school, class size 350
-Other stats: APs: US History 4, US Government 4

SUBJECTIVE

-Essays: Personal essay describing an important moment from a justice trip to El Salvador, along with how that trip affected me personally and my goals. My “Why Northwestern?” essay was very well constructed I think, proofread by both my parents and my sister who works as an editor.
-Teacher Recs: Both were very good I think, I got to read them and both teachers did an excellent job.
-Counselor Rec: I spent a lot of time with my counselor, she knows me very well. I didn’t read the recommendation but I’m sure it was excellent.
-Hook (if any): I don’t think so!

LOCATION/PERSON

-State or Country: Minnesota
-School Type: Catholic
-Ethnicity: White, non hispanic
-Gender: Female
-Major Strength/Weakness: Very well rounded student, self-motivated, took the hardest classes my school offered and excelled, chose to take two foreign languages all 4 years of high school as an extra challenge.
-Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: I think my essays were probably a big help, writing has always been a strength of mine and I put a lot of time and effort into them. That along with a great transcript, good test scores, and a lot of extra curriculars.
-Going to attend?: Still waiting to hear back from Stanford, Notre Dame, Dartmouth, Harvard, Columbia, Barnard, Boston College, Tufts, Swarthmore, and Georgetown. I haven’t picked a top choice and refuse to until I know where I get in so Northwestern has as good of a chance as any other school I get into!

OTHER FACTORS

-Extra-curriculars: NHS, Editor of Newspaper, Editor of Lit Mag, Student Council, Mock Trial, Varsity Alpine Skiing, Political Affairs Club, Theater, lots of community service among other things I can’t think of at the moment…
-Comments: Good luck to everyone who got in, I am THRILLED! To those who didn’t, I’m sure you will find another excellent quality school and do very well for yourself. And if your heart is still set on Northwestern, you can always transfer!

Decision: REJECTED

STATS:

-SAT: 2140 (710CR 740M 690W)
-SAT IIs: 700 Math II, 670 US History
-ACT
-GPA: 3.73ish
-Rank: really bad. Out of top 10%, possibly even top 15%
-Other stats:

SUBJECTIVE

-Essays: My Common App one was one of my best, and I put a lot of time into it. My Why Northwestern was more rushed, and therefore probably just ok.
-Teacher Recs: One from chemistry teacher, one from college English/Lit teacher
-Counselor Rec: Cookie Cutter, very dry
-Hook (if any): Sister goes to NU law school.

LOCATION/PERSON

-State or Country: OR
-School Type: Public, not many APs offered. On average we send about 2-3 to top schools
-Ethnicity: Indian
-Gender: Male
-Major Strength/Weakness: SAT scores were competitive I thought, but SAT II’s were bad. Rank and GPA probably killed me.
-Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: See above.
-Going to attend?: I will be attending UChicago in the fall!

OTHER FACTORS

-Extra-curriculars: Student Government secretary, VP of math honor society, played varsity soccer, volunteered at hospital, couple other steady volunteering
-Comments: No biggie. Honestly, NU was my second choice; UChicago has always been my number one. But after I got deferred EA from Chicago, I started liking NU more and more. If you dont know, UChicago had a MASSIVE spike in apps this year, so I was almost certain I would get rejected. I thought my chances were better at NU due to the legacy(ish) connection. I love the social atmosphere at NU, and I hear the girls are pretty good looking as well (ha). But, alas, I got into UChicago RD(!!!), so the NU rejection didnt hurt in the slightest. At least we will be close, right NU? We were meant for other people it seems; our relationship had so much potential, but so it goes…

To you '15ers who are reading this thread: learn to love your local state flagship. Look up the frats/sororities at your state school, or the other student organizations if greek life isnt your thing. Really, its important that you try to pump yourself up for your safety school, it will make rejections and the wait itself much more bearable. About a month before decisions, it helps to have the “Whatever happens happens…[insert state flagship] isnt so bad anyways…I am sure I will like it” attitude. Really. Stop reading CC and go to your safety’s website. Like, do it now. Srsly. Right now.
