-Major Strength/Weakness: GPA, Heritage, and SATs
-Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: There were a lot of applicants this year! A 8% acceptance rate - that’s insane for Northwestern! So congrats to those who did get in- it’s really an honor this year
-Going to attend?: Depends if they offer me admission/I don’t get in anywhere else…

OTHER FACTORS

-Extra-curriculars: In A LOT of extra-curriculurs including being President of the Philosophy & Theology Book Club

[/ul]Subjective[ul]
[]Essays: CommonApp was good, but the supplement for NW could have been way better. I went through it really quickly and should have spent more time on the questions. My answers were very cliche
[]Recs: Very Good
[]Supplementary Material: I just attached a resume to the CommonApp
[]Summer Activities: Work for 2 summers, Study abroad for another
[]Hook(recruited athlete, legacy, Nobel Prize): First-Gen college student?

[]Awards: State winner for a math scholarship, honor’s honor roll, top 5% banquet at our school, award of excellence from study abroad program
[]Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Honestly, my supplement sucked. And so did my CR SAT scores.
[*]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: NW wasn’t my top choice school. I just kind of applied to it to see if I could get in. Regardless, I’m kind of bummed because it’s my first real college decision letter. (Besides state schools) The other schools I really hope to get into are about the same difficulty level as Northwestern…so I hope this rejection isn’t just a sign of whats to come. Congrats to all accepted - you’re all very deserving. To those denied - no matter where you end up, just immerse yourself in your college experience completely and you will be happy. There are always opportunities for graduate and professional school.[/ul]

Decision: ACCEPTED to Medill!

STATS:

-SAT: 2070
-SAT IIs: 610 (Math 2) and 640 (Literature)
-ACT: 30
-GPA: 3.864 / 4.136
-Rank: 53 / 576

SUBJECTIVE

-Essays: Oh, gosh. I really hated my common app one. I can barely go back to reread it now without cringing. But my Northwestern one was really very honest and straightforward about what I wanted and why, so that might’ve gotten me points.
-Teacher Recs: Pretty amazing. I got to see one of them, and it made my mother cry.
-Counselor Rec: I’m not sure. My counselor knows me pretty well, but I hear they can be generic.
-Hook (if any): Well, I’ve been taking at least two APs a year since my freshman year at a school that only offers them to juniors and above. I’ve also made kind of a splash in the journalism world, one of my articles going national on CNN.

LOCATION/PERSON

-State or Country: Oregon, baby!
-School Type: Extremely large public school. I think we’re up to 3000 kids now.
-Ethnicity: White.
-Gender: Female.
-Major Strength/Weakness: Rigorous course selection and solid extracurriculars. As for weaknesses, I thought my scores were really going to get me in trouble.
-Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: I think through my application, it’s obvious that I’m really passionate about what I plan on doing (journalism and creative writing), so that kind of eclipsed any weaknesses of my transcript.
-Going to attend?: It’s one of my top choices, but I’m waiting on financial aid. I may end up at Northeastern U. I’m really interested in their co-op option, as it would give me the same sort of experience as Northwestern’s Journalism Residency, AND I would get paid for it. I’m not exactly the most well off person, so. We’ll see.

OTHER FACTORS

-Extra-curriculars: I was honest about the fact that journalism and theatre take up most of my life. Between that and working, I don’t have time for much else, because I try to be involved in those things in every way possible. But I also was a member of Schools for Schools for two years, the president the second, and organized a city wide book drive.
-I also represented my state at a semi-prestigious journalism program in Washington DC called the Al Neuharth Free Spirit Scholarship and Journalism conference. He’s the founder of USA today if anyone has trouble placing him.

-Major Strength/Weakness: my grades sophomore year were really mediocre but they took a big jump up junior year and stayed that way
-Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: with such mediocre grades sophomore year it would be a risk to accept me but at the same time I do have potential
-Going to attend?: If I eventually get in, most likely yes. I have to hear from some more schools, but I really loved Northwestern.

How did you get the decisions? Email or is there a log-in?

E-mails were sent out yesterday; a number of people have called the admissions office to ask for theirs to be re-sent. Check your spam folder first (it is a mass email, so even if you don’t normally lose important things in there, now is a good time to check), then consider calling (keep in mind that they won’t tell you the admission decision over the phone). At worst, you’ll get some paper mail next week.

I received nothing. Did people receive rejections?

People got rejections, if you’ve received nothing it just means the e-mail got lost. Get on the horn.
