* Why you think you were rejected: the weaknesses.

Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
I'm not at all surprised and neither is anybody on this thread probably; I just thought it my duty to post a little info on SESP admissions since almost no one seems to apply there.

Strengths: Extracirriculars, SATs Weakness: GPA
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Yay! N00b UCLA though they were too good for me...heh

Before applying to US universities, I was rejected from all the universities I wanted to go in my native land.
As I read over the posts of those rejected. I wondered
If I were accepted then, would I be happy?
I don't think so. I probably would have been left unsatisfied with other problems coming up.
To those who were rejected: life still goes on.
yep, life still goes on.

so don't worry too much about getting rejected here. There will be a better place reserved for all of you.

Hook: Music, legacy

Location: Chicago suburban

School type: Public

Legacy means little unless you give them $10,000,000?!

Legacy itself doesn't play a huge role in admission process nor the largess, but you need someone who graduated or is related to university you want
to get in.
Then through that person, you need to donate appropriate sum of money during your high school years. (20k~50k per year is right depending on Univ, if what I heard is correct)
By the time you apply, you notify to adcom that you are one of the donors.
Your application will be flagged and then be moved into less competitive and smaller pool.

Admission process is corrupted in a way =[

Accepted CAS!

Since this is the "official" thread...

Waitlisted (WCAS)

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I: 700v 760m 790w = 2250
[] SAT IIs: 750 bio e, 790 us hist, 800 math 2c = 2340
[] GPA: 3.9uw/4.2w
[] Rank: 7 of 85
[] Other stats: 4 APs (all 5's), 20 loser-college units (all A's except a C in upper-div. Virgil)
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: hastily written (if you can even dignify it with the label "writing"), attempted to tailor relevant essays to NU but probably still too general
[] Teacher Recs: acadec coach (knows me well, but insists on writing way too much--2 pp.!); econ/stats teacher I just met this year (econ is my field of interest... probably not specific or meaningful enough)
[] Counselor Rec: don't know much about
[] Hook (if any): '07 small school nat'l acadec champs? none really
[/ul]
Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: central CA
[] School Type: small sort-of-not-really-magnet charter
[] Ethnicity: white (undeclared)
[] Gender: male
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: several applicants from relatively small school (yield concerns--this probably also contributed to the waitlisting of a classmate who got into Yale EA); downward trend in grades/upward in laziness (1B + 1C each of last 2 semesters); inattention to essays; submitted app on 1/1[/ul]

There's a slight chance I'll take a spot on the list depending on what happens at other places, but I don't think I want to drag out this process until 6/30 or later, esp. considering the low probability of eventual admission.

*Decision: ACCEPTED to Medill! *
