CC makes NU seem like a really easy school!
Look at the admit rate of CC-awesome

or all the rejected people on cc ran away, never to return to the northwestern forum.

*Decision: Accepted (Engineering) *

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I: 2150 - 700cr/780m/670w
[] SAT IIs: 780mathIIc, 760chem
[] ACT: n/a
[] GPA: 4.25
[] Rank: top 10 percent
[] Other stats:
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I didn't have my main one reviewed. the supplement one just showed that i did the hw
[] Teacher Recs: Didn't see them
[] Counselor Rec: She was new this year.
[] Hook (if any): Hmm.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: International
[] School Type: Small private
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Male
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: Low low grades in 9th and 10th grade
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: My grades improved significantly in the junior/senior year. I think this helped me. And also my main essay.
[/ul]

@Satellitel2000

No offense, but nothing really popped for me from what you posted and the international pool is usually full of people with really high test scores and world-changing EC activities. Unless of course, you decided not to tell us your amazing EC activities.

Well I'll be the one with the balls to humour you with the stats for my much expected rejection.

Decision: Rejected

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I: 700CR 710M 680W
[] SAT IIs: did badly, and thus didn't send them.
[] ACT: n/a
[] GPA: 3.4UW
[] Rank: school doesn't rank
[] Other stats: National Merit Finalist (I listed NU as my top choice for semifinals; didn't afterwards), 5 APs, a slew of extracurriculars, volunteering, leadership. As a Medill applicant, many were journalism-related such as freelancing, internship, newspaper eic, and many of these involved leadership or self-direction.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Good? Writing is usually a strength. Common App was offbeat (thus unique but risky). "Why Northwestern" was the short length (remember that whole fiasco?).
[] Teacher Recs: I didn't see them, but I can confidently say at least one of the two was absolutely golden.
[] Counselor Rec: no idea
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Colorado
[] School Type: suburban, private Catholic prep. Of the five who applied to NU last year, only one was accepted. We're new, so it's hard to read competitiveness.
[] Ethnicity: Filipina
[] Gender: Female
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: Clearly the GPA was definitely, definitely a weakness, and my most dismal grade was in a junior year AP course. My other numbers, as I recall, were pretty middle-of-the-road. And to top it all off, I applied to Medill! On the bright side, I thought my strengths lied in more of the secondary factors (ECs, recs, interview). But in fact, those are secondary.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: See above.[/li][/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I knew this was a reach for me and expected nothing. Congrats to everyone, no matter what the result! I'm sure you'll all go on to fantastic paths, and, hey, at least it's over.

Decision: Accpeted WCAS

[] Rank: 4/427
[] Other stats: IB Diploma Candidate
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Pretty good, got to talk about my extended essay with "outside research", also got help from siblings/parents for edits
[] Teacher Recs: One good, one very good: also sent in 2 supplementary letters that were really good
[] Counselor Rec: Not great: new counselor, told me I was by far "the most academic" student she was working with and made 2 spelling errors....yikes
[] Hook (if any):
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Northern California
[] School Type: big and public....pretty mediocre, except for the IB program
[] Ethnicity: white
[] Gender: female
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: very high GPA and ACT score, did a lot with Speech & Debate, have stuff in every category (service, sports, academics, extracurriculars) because of IB
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: great interview, had a lot in common with my interviewer and/or her children
