oh, guys. I hope I can get the letter tomorrow

The letter went to my parents’ house in MA yesterday.

ohhhradio and other NU transfers-- and new transfers!

What thoughts do you have on housing? I dread ending up in a dorm with a swarm of frosh, but I’d rather live on campus my first quarters.

What do you think about res housing for upperclassmen?

i second wondercatt’s questions. i think they give us whatever housing is left? i would love to live in allison but i have a feeling that will be incredibly difficult.

and ohhhradio, thank you so so much it feels oh so good.

congrats to everyone.

Is there anyone who transferred last year that has input on housing recommendations? I looked at the choices but the descriptions were very vague.

Is there a facebook group by the way

Right here [url=http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=71566694875]

Feel free to add me (the only Ajay in the group).

and I second your question about housing. I’m clueless on what I want. I want to live close to downtown Evanston though (any recommendations?).

wow that group is dead haha

Lol yeah, I was kinda shocked at the lack of people in it.

Have any theater majors heard anything yet?

Did anyone else apply to Medill? Any Word?

For those that got in, congrats! But keep up your studying habit. I transferred from WashU with a 3.9+ GPA. I “relaxed” once I got to NU and my GPA took a huge drop (<3.0) for three consecutive quarters. NU was definitely not easy. Though I finally got my act together and did well in the last two years, the damage on my overall GPA was done. Surprisingly, none of the grad schools I applied to rejected me. :)

For housing, this is how they did it last year: they gave us choices for housing (I remember allison, plex, north mid quads, south mid quads, maybe some res colleges), but I feel that they just completely disregarded that and put us all in plex (Foster Walker Complex). There were a few people put into the green house, one girl was put into Bobb, and some other ones were scattered all over the place. Most, however, were in Plex. My thoughts on this were that it was actually pretty good because it gave all of the transfers a chance to be closer and interact with one another more often. I really enjoyed living in plex and definitely made some of my best friends there.

Hope that helped! Any other questions?

how is plex’s location? proximity to food/gym? and will you be with freshmen

Personally, I liked plex’s location. It’s in the middle of campus (north and south wise), and being a bit more west of everything else isn’t really a problem. There are two dining halls in Plex, one of which has late night hours. I pretty much ate at plex all the time, so I can’t say much about other dining halls, but the one in Allison is pretty close should you choose to go there. As for the gym, it’s about a 10 or 15 minute walk from SPAC, which is the largest and nicest gym; however, it’s right across the street from Blomquist, which is smaller but has basic cardio equipment. I liked Blom MUCH more because of it’s location and probably used it about every day. Finally, there are no freshmen in Plex.

i also saw that plex is only for upperclassmen…did sophomore transfers get placed there too?

Congrats to everyone who got in!

I unfortunately just got my last tiny envelope in the mail today, it adds to the list. I’m 0 for 5 now. I guess I’m going back to Syracuse Univ.

My Stats:
GPA: 3.90 in the honors program (based on 3 semesters)
Rising junior (senior standing) studying business. Applied for economics
Double-degree, triple major, 1 minor
Internships with Citigroup Asia (Hong Kong study abroad), and a microfinance provider in India
Resident advisor
Two professor recommendations which were (to the best of my knowledge) excellent.
Eagle Scout
Did not apply for financial aid

BUT:
HS GPA: 3.0/4.0, a lot of C’s and 1 D my last quarter.
SAT: 640 math and 690 verbal, 1320 total. (also 690 on writing but I think its disregarded)
Limited extracurricular activities, they may have thought I was a nerd? - I might be…

My guess is this was either simply not meant to be, or there was something characteristically wrong with how I presented myself in my essays…I’m guessing the latter.

In any case, once again, my sincere congratulations to all those admitted.

And to those also denied admission, it may be for the better. Applying to a school like Northwestern means you are probably (if not at least close) in the top 5-10% of your graduating class, and there is certainly considerable value in that (assuming you return to your original Univ). That may just be how I am rationalizing it, but I find that events, when outcomes are still unforeseeable, should be looked at in a positive light.

Best of luck to all, wherever you may be in the fall.

that’s a great way to look at things user89976. i wish you luck

user89976, if you were applying as a rising senior that is most likely why you were rejected, unfortunately. schools don’t tend to accept people for their final year of college very often!

So I doubt it was your essays and your ECs/GPA were competitive.

xfer, yeah I was a soph transfer as were almost all of my friends. We were all placed there.

The judgement day is coming up…it’s 2:09 am. I am getting nervous. Hope you guys get a big envelope.

how many transfers will there be in total? facebook group only has like 9
