General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc:
I still can’t believe it. Feels like a dream (although I did sleep at 4 last night so maybe I’m still dreaming). Honest and sincere Good Job to all of you guys, and for those who got deferred or rejected, keep your heads up. It isn’t the end of the road, and if anything, college is but one stepping stone in your life. What one college says is certainly not reflective of your self. Good luck to all in the future, and, hope to see some of you next year!

[ *] Strengths: Essays, recs, extracurriculars, ACT score, taken max AP courseload offered
[ *] Weaknesses: SAT II math score (Mendoza), GPA, weak transcript
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I really showed me passion for the school, and for my interests through my resume.[/ul]

Other Factors:
I got matched through QuestBridge and I’m still in shock. I wanted to give back, because I remember reading these threads and thinking that I’d never make it in. I have FOUR 75s all from my freshman year on my transcript but I worked my butt off the rest of the time.

I just wanted to let a prospective applicant know that it is possible to get in with “low” stats. Be passionate.

Best of luck and congrats to all who applied, to those who get in and to those still waiting! Having one daughter that graduated in 2011 and one son a freshman this year, I know how amazing this special place is! If it is right for you it will be a life long family of friends. All the best to you!

(and, I remember well waiting with my son and daughter, for that mail truck to come on a December Saturday…)

Peace~

You got accepted yesterday?

^ I believe applicants living abroad receive acceptances by email so getting an acceptance yesterday was possible.

Accepted!!!

I really loved my “try something new” essay and I think it really stood out. I’m also a female with an intended major in mechanical engineering so that probably helped.

[ b]Other Factors:** Catholic

[ b]General Comments & Advice:** I am so beyond excited!!! I really didn’t think that I was going to get in. I happy cried for a good ten minutes when I got my letter. So so thrilled! Notre Dame is my dream school. Now I just have to pray that I’ll find a way to pay for it.

mikewow, I’m so sorry! I did not mean to call your son a ■■■■■. I hope that you and Mike may find it in your hearts to forgive me. I saw it in another post and I just wanted to warn people. My fault and I am sorry!

General Comments & Advice:

My advice is that if you really want to go here, turn it in as soon as you can. Now that doesn’t mean rush the essays (By far, ND has the most essays than any other college I have/will apply to), but manage your time and don’t procrastinate.

I was not too phased by the rejection, because hours earlier I got accepted into UMich, so I will gladly take the UMich acceptance =D Good luck to the rest of you!

[li] Hooks (URM, first generation, recruited athlete, development): none
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I really do think my essays put me over the top. I don’t mean to sound narcissistic. Had them checked by every English teacher I’ve had in my high school, and they all said they were unique and showcased a variety of punctuation. GPA, test scores, and ECs as well.
[] Weaknesses: Number of AP tests I’ve taken
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Like I said in my strengths, I really liked my essays.
[] What would you have done differently?: More AP tests. Would be nice to have more credit going in. [/ul]

Other Factors:
None I can think of.

General Comments & Advice:
Unreal feeling. After not getting the letter in the mail yesterday I was getting really anxious, but it was definitely worth the wait. DON’T BLOW OFF THE ESSAYS! Really thought those got me in. Just really excited right now! :D

Decision: Accepted

Objective:

 • SAT I superscore (breakdown M/CR/W/Essay): 2230: 690M, 770CR&W, 10

 • Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): top 5%ish out of 114, not reported

 • Number of other EA applicants in your school: zip
 • Major Awards (USAMO, Intel, etc.): zip
 • Common Awards (AP Scholar, honor roll, NM things, etc.): a couple of photography and piano honors, engineering fair, ap scholar with distinction

Subjective:

 • Extracurriculars (name, grade levels, leadership, description): Varsity swimming (4 years, captain), Best Buddies (VP), Photography Club (founder and president), NHS (president), Class Treasurer.
 • Job/Work Experience: short Architecture Internship over the summer
 • Volunteer/Community Service: Camp Promise, where volunteer as caretaker for an adult with mental/physical disabilities for a week.
 • Summer Experience: Like the one at ND? no.

Writing (Subject, 1-10 rating, details):

 • Common App Essay: About Photography, went into detail about two photos I took and how I was content behind the lens of a camera. 8/10
 • Writing Supplement: Proudest Accomplishment: making my camper (Camp Promise) cry because he loved camp so much and didn’t want to leave. Why ND: About the architecture program and community service, and how I wear ND pajamas. Take A Risk (or something): Wrote an article making fun of myself and how I am weary of college applications and SATs. Must have given them a good laugh!
 • Teacher Rec (teacher’s subject, 1-10 rating, details): from my AP Lang Teacher! She’s the best and her rec was probably great!
 • Counselor Rec: My counselor is new but I knew her as a family friend before she started working at my school so she likes me and her rec was probably super!
 • Other Rec: Nope

Other

Reflection

 • Strengths: essays, recs, leadership
 • Weaknesses: SAT math (690 bleh), only one subject test, white male.
 • Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I have no idea. Was expecting rejection or deferral to be honest! I submitted an art portfolio and supposedly that helps people applying for architecture, but wow.
• What would you have done differently?: I guess nothing!

General Comments & Advice: Take risks, do what you feel best represents you, also a 690 on SAT math does not spell certain death, haha. I’m not entirely sure how I got in; I was seriously not expecting much today, especially seeing everyone else stats who got deferred or rejected. A lot of stress taken off going into RD applications knowing I got into at least one reach school! yay!
