Son was deferred.

35 ACT, 2250 SAT. #2 out of #134 in his class. NMSF. Disappointed that he was asked to move his application from RD to EA. That seems like a slap in the face at this point.

Essays (rating 1-10, details): Common App (8) - Really Passionate About what I wrote about; ND Supplements (9) -I loved what I wrote, I felt like it really captured why I wanted to be a part of Notre Dame and I wrote the “hook” one - I spent a lot of time on it and I thought it was unique but still represented me
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details): I have no idea. My teacher has not showed me yet.

Teacher Rec #1: I am assuming it was really good because I have known this teacher since eighth grade as a basketball coach, had him all four years as a teacher, and two years academically as a teacher, including AP Chemistry

Reflection

Strengths: Extracurriculars, ACT, Writing
Weaknesses: Not a lot of focused volunteer work, no conenctionns to ND
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I really showed my passion for Notre Dame, and of course my strong courseload/academics (4.0 unweighted, taking as heavy as a courseload as I possibly could) and lots of EC
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to a lot (also applied to a lot) - mostly state schools all around the country - Notre Dame most impressive on list; deferred at Tulane

General Comments: I am beyond excited and surprised! I knew I had a strong resume, but I did not believe that it would be good enough for Notre Dame (especially because I got deferred at Tulane)…But beyond happy. I LOVED Notre Dame from the moment I walked on campus. Go Irish!

[asize=4][acolor=#008000]Decision: Accepted

Job/Work Experience: Hostess at Texas Roadhouse (10-15 hrs a week)
Volunteer/Community service: Lots of volunteering, especially for running events. Organized a food drive at my Catholic church
Summer Activities: work and running (lol)
Essays (rating 1-10, details): All 10’s- I wrote about my love for genetics and how for my “field trip” I would want to visit a nucleus to see DNA. For my “beginning of a story” essay I wrote about my great-great aunt who, at age 109, is the oldest living woman in Ireland. Her early life was really interesting, she fought with the IRA, so I wrote about her early life (beginning). Then for my “Why ND’” one I wrote about how I always views ND as the “finish line” (I kind of used a running metaphor) but really it would only be the starting line because it would help me to grow in my faith and as a person. I also wrote about wanting to join the ND community.

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):

Teacher Rec #1: 10- from my AP World teacher, talked about my passion for learning
Teacher Rec #2: 10- from my XC coach. Wrote about me as a person rather than a student
Counselor Rec: didn’t submit, used my coach’s rec instead because my counselor has no idea who I am ( hashtag public school problems)

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: yep
Intended Major: Pre-professional (Physical therapy)
State (if domestic applicant): Wisconsin
Country (if international applicant): USA
School Type: Big public (ranked 8th in state of Wisco)
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female
Income Bracket:$150, 000 (not sure)
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Catholic, legacy (my dad and grandpa both went there), my aunt is a current graduate student who has lived there for 9 years and knows everyone there, my uncle works for the university (rector for graduate family housing I think) and also attended there

Reflection- I really did not think I would get in. I really think it was my essays. You CAN get in even if you didn’t get a 34+ on your ACT! I consider myself sort of an average joe- I didn’t attend any pre-college programs, I didn’t start a charity, I didn’t attend an international science fair or intern on Wall Street or anything like that. If you work hard and spend a lot of time on your essays you definitely have a shot! Good luck to everyone!!!

Strengths: Family connections, essays
Weaknesses: “lower” ACT score, extracurriculars aren’t super academic in nature, lack of major awards
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Essays and family connections
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted- University of Wisconsin and University of Minnesota- Twin Cities.

Hoping that I can find a couple hundred thousand dollars lying around on the street so I can attend my dream school!!! Good luck to everyone! And to those that didn’t get in, don’t worry about it, there are plenty of great colleges out there (plenty of cheaper colleges out there, too…) and remember you always can transfer into ND later on!

Shoutout to @stahboy on getting accepted! I hope you can find the time to study for finals and not to mention, delete some of them colleges on CA!! Congratz!!!@##@#@@$

Thank you @queserrva I hope for the best for you too! :)

@sdhotmama where in socal might i ask? still waiting for mine :(
