Increase of 250 points from October to November. The funny thing is, I write my essay on basically the same thing every single time. I use the same book, the same movie, and use “the world of sports” as my other example.

This is my first post (but I’ve lurked on CC for a while)
Quick question…my SAT scores are not up to “CC standards” by any means, and I’m not planning to go to an Ivy or anything…but can anyone tell me how far these scores will get me? Oh and I’m a senior.

January 07
CR 680
M 570
W 600

Nov 07
CR 640
M 650
W 610

Oct 07 ACT - 30

So my best mixed “old SAT” (which is what is usually used around here…south FL) is 1330, and my best mixed “new SAT” is 1940. I was kinda hoping for over 2000, but would it even be worth the time/money to retake in Dec/Jan?

I got the highest score on the section I care about the least! (Writing).

I decided to experiment with my essay this time, since it didn’t matter nearly as much. I’ve taken the SAT twice; my first essay was a 9, with pompous vocabulary, bookish sentence structure and lacking elaboration. It also did not have a coherent thesis that addressed the prompt. The second essay was more concise and less academic. The first essay used history for the examples, while this 8 essay used operating systems (Windows, Mac, and Linux). My second essay was tremendously better in every aspect. Conclusion: Either the essay section is BS, or the graders have low computer literacy and think words like “operating system” are esoteric vocabulary. :)

770 with an 8 essay? That doesn’t seem possible to me. I think the essay portion is worth 30 percent of the entire section. That makes it worth 180 points total and 8/12 = 0.6667 multiplied by 180 points is 120 points. Unless I’m missing something that seems wrong.

It’s plausible if I got every multiple choice question right. I have a score manual from last year’s SAT that provides Essay/MC combinations, and on a lot of these a perfect MC with an 8 essay is 780.

Personally, I’m proud of myself for getting 770 with really good MC. It’s more objective than getting a poor MC and a really good essay.

On the March SAT I got 66 MC and a 7 essay and got 620.

Nov SAT I got 60 MC and an 8 essay and got 600.

Disappointing either way. I usually get 10-12 on the essay but I guess SAT graders are much harsher. Either that or they don’t like Gandhi and MLK

yeah, i have a windows 95. it is incompatible with collegeboard.com, or something. i have to do everything, like register for the sat, at my school.

To get your essay score, go to “Test Regs and Scores” then scroll down to the bottom and across from Send Scores to Colleges" there should be a hyperlink saying “Summary of Sent Scores.”

So it turned out that on my 710 W I got 73 MC right and an 8 on the essay, lmao. I cannot stand writing bs under pressure and I honestly didn’t care; I wrote about how options destroy you and how my friend was driven insane by 3 girls who wanted to date him at once.
