Well, previously, I used Grammatix for passage-based questions and didn't read the text. Yesterday I realized that's a horrible idea. So while going through the test yesterday as well as on another test today, I read the entire passages. I was able to determine the answers to the questions a lot faster, so I didn't go over the time limit (for like the first time). Though I ended up with around the same score as usual, I felt a lot more confident and now I just need to practice a couple more times before I expect a real increase in my score.

In general, though, it wasn't so much an application of strategy as understanding the thought process of a natural. Grammatix tries to do this in words, but, at least in my case, fails to do so coherently.

Yeah I came to realize that not reading the passage isn't too good of an idea. And reading the passage isn't so bad when you're reading it w/ the pencil (underlining important points and writing notes on the margin)...it flies by much quicker and you retain more info.

I'm taking the new SATI for the first time as a junior this Saturday (how did the time go by so fast?). I would just LOVE a 2400 (then again who wouldn't?) but I have a feeling the essay's going to bite me like it did in the ACTs.

Has anyone got any tips for someone who has never done an SAT before, and has only looked through about 3 practise sections (ie.. 1 Math, 1 CR, and one Writing) and needs to get a very high score because this is his second last chance at doing the SAT before applying to v. competitive universities? I am particularly worried about CR and Writing, because even though I do English Literature here in Australia, I have no idea of the system you guys have for writing/marking essays, and i'm just not overly good at reading passage's quickly/vocab

thanks for that mate, I am going to look through that site on Friday before the exam (as ive got end of year school examinations on as well atm), but I was looking for some more 'personal' tips from you guys who have already done the test, maybe even things I should be worrying about like time, etc...

OMG I just remembered! My sister is in Australia right now! Maybe you saw her? An Indian girl walking around the University of Melbourne?! She's coming home in 27 days. :)

Oh yeah, back to the SAT... maybe I'll type some stuff up tomorrow. I'm pretty busy right now..

EDIT: My sister just emailed me! Haha and it's about the SAT, too! Ah, don't you love it when the world just... clicks?

hahaha! just a little curious, why did she choose to study at the Univ of. Melbourne instead of in the states? I doubt that I would have seen her coz there are 20 million ppl here and also as I am in WA not Vic :P But you never know!

thanks for offerring to type up some hints tom, really looking forward to it.

Hi all, I'm taking the SAT French subject test Saturday, aiming for an 800 (at least a 790). I'm also over in Aus - vrumchev it's a bit late now but I would have recommended Kaplan Writing to learn essay form, and Barron's for CR, they provide lots of SAT vocab flash cards...Best of luck to everyone!

theoneo the math in that section seemed incredibly cakewalkish for some reason. I omitted the last problem though haha and after reviewing i feel like a complete tool. 7*5 = 35. lets hope the real test is similar :)

hey yea I've got the Collegeboard prep book but because of TEE I havent had much time to look over it..

Wow.. 800 in french would be amazing. I do French do, but my vocab isn't all to flash because we are allowed dictionaries, so I tend to focus more on grammar... which state are you studying in?

I'm in NSW, and I also have exams around this time, so I haven't been able to study as much as I'd have liked, but a subject test is not such a big deal I suppose...although yes, I do want an 800, I've just always done well at French so I figured I'd go for it :)

I'm taking the Subjects for US History, Bio, and Lit. Can anybody explain what I should expect on the Lit. test? What kinds of questions do they focus on? Are they all reading? Are they mixed with reading, vocab, grammar, etc? How does it differ from the SAT I Verbal? I think I'm solid now for the other two but I don't know what to expect for this particular test.
