**Official NU ED 2017 Discussion and Results Thread**

So, ED applications are due tomorrow, and I figured why not start the discussion thread? For now, if you want to post your stats, skip the first lines and the reflection section (Those are for saying whether you got accepted, waitlisted, or rejected and why you think you got accepted or rejected, respectively). Erase the spaces in the beginning brackets to make it work (I stole this from last year's ED thread). Hopefully we'll all be accepted and meet each other next year at some point!

[/ul]Objective:[ul]
[li] SAT I (breakdown): 800M, 720CR, 650W (I don't know why it sucks so much).
[/li]

[li] ACT: 33
[/li]

[li] SAT II: None
[/li]

[li] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.91 or so
[/li]

[li] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Not sure of exact rank, but I'm 5.09%. One stinking person away from top 5%
[/li]

[li] AP (place score in parenthesis): Music Theory (5 both sections), Calc AB (5), Lit (4), US History (4)
[/li]

[li] IB (place score in parenthesis): None
[/li]

[li] Senior Year Course Load: AP Calc BC, Biology II Honors, Newspaper, AP Comp Sci, Gov/Econ Honors
[/li]

[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Semifinalist, National Hispanic Scholar, and AP Scholar (With honors maybe? Whatever the one above the basic level is)
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[li] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): A lot of church volunteering and leadership, keys in the band at church, classical piano (half a page of state awards and superiors in competitions), newspaper section editor, jazz piano, guitar lessons. I think that covers it
[/li]

[li] Job/Work Experience: None, technically an intern at church one summer, but I didn't put anything about it.
[/li]

[li] Volunteer/Community service: Like I said, a lot of church volunteering, along with Operation Christmas child every year
[/li]

[li] Summer Activities: Helped with our VBS (Around 1000 kids, I was in the band and helped with 4 year olds), went to Camp Electric (A christian music camp, but I didn't put that anywhere)
[/li]

[li] Essays: Common App essay was good, maybe very good, not excellent or anything (yes those are very subjective, haha)
[/li]

[li] Teacher Recommendation: My Newspaper teacher who I've had for 3 years now. On our newspaper outing I was in his giant two person inner tube, and I ate lunch with him, his wife, and other chaperones a couple times on DC trip, so he knows me really well.
[/li]

[li] Counselor Rec: She filled out her stuff before I even asked her to, so I assume very good. I've been around her office a lot.
[/li]

[li] Additional Rec: none
[/li]

[li] Interview: None
[/li]

[/ul]Other:[list]

[li] State (if domestic applicant): SC
[/li]

[li] Country (if international applicant): NA
[/li]

[li] School Type: One person went to UChicago last year, and that was probably the only top 50 school. It's the Math, Science, and Technology magnet, and we're pretty good, but we don't send grads to top colleges.
[/li]

[li] Ethnicity: Hispanic (My mom's 100% Brazilian, she was the first child in her family born in America).
[/li]

[li] Gender: Male
[/li]

[li]Income Bracket: Past 4 years my dad was unemployed, my mom's on disability and has a lot of medical expenses, and my dad just got a 60K job, so 60K's the short answer, but we've been in the hole for a while (Plus I believe they still owe most of their mortgage).
[/li]

[*] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I'm a URM, and both my grandparents went to NU, so legacy.

Hello, I sent in my application yesterday to NU too! I’ll post stats when decisions come out. Fingers crossed!
By the way, the deadline is now November 7 because of Hurricane Sandy (though I’m not sure if that is only for east coast applicants, like myself)
So nervous! Do you know when results come out?

Ah, I heard about other colleges extending theirs, guess I should have figured NU did too (I think they’d have to extend it for everyone). I was done and fully checked over anyway, so that didn’t matter for me, haha. ED Decisions come out on December 15th. Could be pushed back due to later applications, but I doubt it.

I mostly just typed my stats to test it, and it failed the first time, haha. I forgot that on the ED thread from last year that they updated it a few posts after the beginning, so I copied the first one, then realized I should have gotten the second. It works now though, so once they come out people can just use that and our joy/indifference/sorrow will be wrapped up in a nice, fancy package, haha.

Guess I’ll just put a concise overview of mine. Lazy. And yes, I’m just copy-pasting that template.

See you all in 45 days.

Let me repeat something… Caps so people hopefully read it…

** DELETE THE SPACES IN THE FORMAT ABOVE **

Haha, I feel so powerful knowing how to make things Bold and Larger :-)

Where are all of our fellow EDers??
Anyways, to try and kill time between now and December (kidding), have you guys done interviews? Visited the campus?

I haven’t done an interview, I just don’t have time at the moment (Practicing for Jazz recital, classical piano recital, the rest of the college apps, etc.). And visiting would be at least an entire weekend to plan out (I live in SC) and would take a lot of transport time. The board has been kind of dead… I don’t know why.

i visited campus during a hail storm haha

Hm I see, I don’t think the interview is too strongly considered for NU anyways!

and yes I know, maybe there will be more ED applicants here after the new deadline passes.

where is everyone from?

I’m from MA.
I actually flew out to Evanston a month ago to see the campus. I wanted to be sure that I LOVED it before I applied ED–and I did!

Haven’t yet submitted my application due to the extended deadline (I’m in New York City), but I’ll fill it out.

[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): school doesn’t provide unweighted average nor a 4.0 scale gpa; 96.85 average (it’s low)
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): school doesn’t rank
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): World History (3), US History (4), Language & Composition (5)

[] Summer Activities: various creative writing and poetry workshops
[] Essays: pretty strong, creative common app (supplement has yet to be written -.-)
[] Teacher Recommendation: my AP Lang teacher wrote a strong rec, the other is probably mediocre
[] Counselor Rec: pretty nervous about this one, it was rushed and she doesn’t know me very well
[] Additional Rec: probably strong, by a mentor in one of my creative writing workshops
[] Interview: I know Northwestern doesn’t put any weight on interviews, but it went really well. It was very honest from both sides and I left very happy about it. [/ul]

[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: TBA[/ul][/li]General Comments: It’s a reach but here’s hoping. Good luck to everyone applying!

I, like I said above, am from SC so I’m kind of hoping maybe I have a geographic boost, haha. No, but I think that people will show up once applications are due, too. The coolest part about NU is how diverse it is, so it will be interesting to see all the different applicants strengths and such. RainingDaisies, in our school it’d be a sin for you to be in both Newspaper and Yearbook, we’ve got a strong rivalry, haha. We face each other in raising money for spirit week (If you don’t know what that is, it’s the week we face our rival school in Football and raising money for charity, but we do mini challenges within the school), paintball, but Newspaper is obviously better :-)

Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): CR 760 M 770 W 700

Volunteer/Community service: teach senior citizens how to use computers. four years.
Summer Activities: ultimate frisbee (nationals). took some classes at a community college
Essays: don’t want to comment. took a risk on the supplement that could screw me.
Teacher Recommendation: two of my teachers said they’d be honored…doesn’t mean anything. the other bs’s her recs pretty well.
Counselor Rec: probably not too good. my counselor is an idiot and i’ve never bother getting to know her. (let’s be honest: counselors are a huge waste of tax payer money)
Additional Rec: see above.
Interview: not gonna have one. i dislike interviews.

State (if domestic applicant): CA (reppin’ the bay)

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: TBA
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: TBA
General Comments: planning on an econ & polisci major. you guys?
best of luck to everyone!

CrimsonStained - Aha, you’ll be happy to know my preference lies strongly with Newspaper;p

I’m planning on (and this is EXTREMELY tentative, I change my mind all the time) majoring in Biology, and either minoring, or double majoring, in applied mathematics. I want to be a Biomathematician (again, very tentative).

Rapfan- I’ll ignore the fact that you’re liberal :stuck_out_tongue: Just kidding, that’s pretty cool that you founded a SuperPAC and are president of the young liberals club. Most of the kids at my school will say Obama because he’s cool, or Romney because he’s republican, and have no idea what they actually stand for other than the basic republican/democrat stances. I really want to know about your supplement essay now, would you mind PM’ing me why you think it might cause an issue? I doubt that anything could possibly cause them to reject you unless it was “I hate NU. It sucks. I don’t ever want to go here. My parents are making me.” haha

crimsonstained - haha typical south carolinian :stuck_out_tongue: lol most of my close friends are pretty conservative, which is funny cause i’m fairly liberal.
hey, how’d you know that was my essay? i’m banking on reverse psychology!
jks

I’m not really republican per se, I just am more conservative. I’m actually probably mostly libertarian. I just think that we need to get rid of parties, and just have people run as people, not their party. If Romney wants to be liberal on a few things, why shouldn’t he be, and if Obama wants to be conservative on a few things, why not? I just get mad that the candidates get forced into their party’s roles.

Haha, an entire essay of talking about things you hate about it, that are obviously really good things. That’d be funny, but I doubt they’d appreciate it.
