For ED, legacy does play a role; for RD, not much.

I submitted my application back at the end of September, I am so nervous! I love Northwestern and December 15th couldn’t come soon enough!!

Anyone else an engineering major??

No, however I may double major or minor in Applied Math which is in McCormick. NUDad, do you think me having two grandparents will be about the same as having a parent go? Neither of my parents went, but both my dad’s parents did.

:( no legacy. i doubt admissions cares where your parents went to school? (my parents went to elite schools but im sure that couldnt possibly help in any way)

Crimsonstained7: Granparents are considered “secondary legacy” as opposed to “primary legacy” (applicable to parents); this link throws more light on this: [Legacy’s Advantage May Be Greater Than Was Thought - Students - The Chronicle of Higher Education](<a href=“Legacy’s Advantage May Be Greater Than Was Thought”>Legacy’s Advantage May Be Greater Than Was Thought)

Hmm. maybe 2 x Secondary Legacy = Primary Legacy In other news, in Biology II yesterday we did Bioinformatics a little (gene linkage maps), and I loved it! Now I really do want to do bioinformatics in the future!

My counselor didn’t realize there was a part other than the school report for ED, so she hasn’t done the ED agreement yet, and it’s due Wednesday. I assume she just hadn’t checked, and she’ll find it and do it, but my heart skipped a beat. To wait until March or April… no way, not happening. I’ll check with her tomorrow, and if she can’t find it I will send a message to the good people at NU and see what happened.

Quick question, unlike some of the other schools I’ve applied to, I never got a username or password or anywhere to check my application status for Northwestern. Did anybody got something? Do you know if Northwestern does not have a website needed to check decisions?

I don’t think they have any website thing, I didn’t get a username or anything… they’ll probably e-mail them.

That is correct. You will receive an email with a link that tells you the decision status!

NUDad, I don’t know if you’ll know the answer to this, but my counselor couldn’t find anything for the ED agreement (like stated above) and I couldn’t get a paper copy done on Wednesday when they suggested that by email. Will I still be in the running for ED, since it’s my counselor’s fault, and not mine? Or will I have to wait to RD, which may mean I’ll be yanking my hair out for 4 months, haha.

So since NU has (at least for the past 2 years) released ED decisions on the Friday before December 15th at 5pm CST, do we think they’ll stick strictly to that and let us know on Friday the 14th or they’ll think more along the “it’s a about a week before the 15th like last year” route and let us know on Friday the 7th?

Crimsonstained7: As long as you explain the circumstances that caused this ED goof-up, you should be fine…do send an email to your admission officer in this regard. Additionally, you may want to call them too. Good Luck!

Crimsonstained, did you submit an ED agreement online?
Here is a link to a paper form which has to be signed by you, your parents and your counselor: http://www.ugadm.northwestern.edu/documents/UG_Admissions_EarlyDecisionAgreement.pdf

@Crimsomstained–when my ED agreement wasn’t in, part of the email NU sent me said this --

If we do not receive the items needed to complete your file by Wednesday, November 21, your application will be changed to Regular Decision.

Hopefully this isn’t the case for you, but it definitely may turn out to be that way.

So they changed it to being required by November 30th, and my counselor “searched high and low” and found it, so I think they’ve got it. I’ll check the common app to see if it says she got it, but it sounds like she did. So, it’s all good.

In other news, I was just wondering, where is everyone else applying? I’m applying to UVa, UGA, 'Bama (Super safety, due to my stats), Furman, and Clemson. I may add UNC, Georgetown, and UWash, but I’m still researching. NU may be my top choice, but I do have to keep my options open with such a hard school.

UNC, Georgetown, Notre Dame, USC, GW, Syracuse, etc…

USC, BU, GW, NYU, Columbia, UCLA and Berkeley… hopefully I’ll make it in somewhere haha

Only USC and UT Austin, seems like everyone is applying to USC here.

Everyone except me, haha. I just can’t imagine going THAT far away from home. Plus even the IDEA of LA just makes me cringe. Give me Chicago, DC, or any other big city (Minus NYC), but LA is just too annoying. UVa is definitely my second favorite. Great academics, beautiful campus, close to my cousins (Each of whom I like to think of as the little sister/brother I never had. Someone messes with them, I’m planning on taking a trip to DC and beating them up )
