**Official NU ED 2017 Discussion and Results Thread**

This isn’t meant for chances, it’s meant for community, and meeting our (hopefully) future classmates.

The common data set would have the ethnic distribution, wouldn’t it?

Like it’s been stated before on this thread, and around this forum, notification comes first through email on the day stated, while snail mail comes later.

Being a woman in Engineering should probably boost you, if even just a tiny bit, since you’re applying for McCormick.

Decision: Accepted

Now don’t freak out, I applied through the Questbridge scholarship program and I was not matched with Northwestern, however a few days ago they sent me an e-mail telling me I am accepted and have been given a choice between being accepted through Early decision or Regular decision. I have since called and verified that I am indeed accepted. I will be taking the regular decision admission because my number one choice is UChicago

Congratulations pteredo! May this be the beginning of happy tidings to others in this forum who have applied ED.

So because NU is accepting through QuestBridge this week, do you think they’ll notify standard ED applicants this Friday?

Congratulations, you sound like a great student, so I don’t mean this to slight you in the least, but… I think any URM who has average scores for a school will usually get in no matter what, especially QB kids. I’m confident I’ll get accepted, mostly because my scores are slightly above average, I’m hispanic, and I’ve got two grandparents who went there. Hooks really do help a lot.

I didn’t mean to dive into another topic, I’m just pointing something out.

Congratulations again!

You guys are lucky. My stats are close to both of yours, but I’m Indian. Don’t really understand why we have to have such exceptional stats to get into these top universities.

Rcc117, I hope so! That means they already have decisions done, so hopefully, we’ll know by Friday!

Can we really assume that all the decisions are done just because they’ve done the QB ones?

I feel like they wouldn’t just do a single group without doing all of them, you know? It’d be easier for them to just get everything done together versus giving preference.

So we can expect decisions this Friday…

When the nerves start taking over…:"(

Question from a NU ED-pending mom: How much do you think interviews matter? D had an interview with an alum and came home GLOWING! Her application seems strong - but not slam dunk - anyway. Does the good interview help? not enough to push her over the edge? thoughts?

On what basis are people saying that we might actually get discussions this friday? Is that really a possibility?

decisions*

@1316gradmom - interviews will not make or mar an otherwise strong application.

@giupcae:
I’m basing my guess of this Friday off of 1) NU is notifying QuestBridge students of acceptances, so they probably have decisions done, and 2) ED decisions have been released about 6-7 days before December 15th over the past few years, always on a Friday at 5pm CST.
However, it’s still totally possible that we’ll have to wait until next Friday.

Interviews, as they are optional, will not carry much weight, but if it really was great, it could tip it over the edge if it’s really close.

They are basing it on the above, but I’m not convinced that just because QuestBridge decisions are out, that they have them done… Still could happen, but who knows?

Hey gradmom, I actually asked that specific question of an NU admissions counselor, and she specifically told me that interviews mean almost nothing in terms of your chances of getting in. She told me that the purpose of interviews is to answer any questions you or your student might have about the University, but that, because of how difficult they can be to obtain and how some applicants might have an unfair advantage in securing them over others, they have very little to no effect on your daughter’s chances of admission to the university.

On the bright side, the fact that your daughter clicked with the NU alum with whom she interviewed is probably a great sign that her application was, as you said, very strong otherwise. You can still take the glowing interview as a confidence boost! Good luck!

Interviews - As someone pointed out, they are optional, and not important, but “glowing” sure sounds good! Anecdotes are not answers, but I have a D that got in RD and a son ED, and neither of them interviewed.

I sure hope it is this friday! My guess is that it will be sometime next week though because of the east coast deadline extension to Nov. 7?

I hope it’s this Friday because it’s been a long wait.
