I have taken an english class as well. I have 12 credit hrs for my first semester excluding the seminar and wellness course (15 credit hrs if the seminar is included). There is a wellness class as well which may not count as far as NYU is concerned.

Yes that made plenty of sense thank you. I’m probably going to fit most of the pre reqs into my second semester and explain that my school (Miami University) requires you to take some core classes such as a science with a lab course.

I am hoping for a Sophomore transfer, but that means that I will be unable to complete the Managerial Accounting, Statistics and Calc requirements because I simply haven’t completed the prerequisites to be eligible to take those courses.

What do you think?

I am also applying to Northeastern, U of Chicago, U of Washington, Boston University and University of Southern California. ( I don’t want to spend another year in Miami, AT ALL!)

don’t require financial aid. Does that raise chances of acceptance?

Also, the website says this… “*Note: We understand that some students, especially those transferring as sophomores, may not be able to complete all of the recommended courses by the end of their freshman year. In that case, we ask that you provide an explanation in the additional information section of your application for the Committee on Admissions to consider when your application is reviewed.”

But I’ve seen people, like you, tell me otherwise. I’m confused.

If you refer to my previous posts on this thread you’ll see my position on this matter. I think you’ll be at a great disadvantage applying with half of the prerequisites missing. You have to understand you’ll be competing with applicants who have exceptional high school grades, as well as collegiate records and who have completed all their prerequisites.

Just as you stated, you can apply however you will need to give them a compelling reason or reasons for them to consider the review of your application.

Has anyone to your knowledge ever been admitted as a transfer to Stern with 1 Prereq missing (Stats)? My spring semester is going to be heavy already with Calculus 2, Honors Managerial Accounting, A physical science w/ Lab, and a humanities course to complete UC requirements. Stats would give me a 5th class, and that would truly be a hefty load for my final semester

Not personally. NYU has a forum where prospective applicants can ask questions and be answered by members from the Admission Office. I did a quick search concerning completing prerequisites and came up with the following:

Q. calculus I (or higher), expository writing, microeconomics, statistics, managerial accounting, and financial accounting.

Do I need to complete ALL of those courses by the time I tranfer into Stern or are they just recommended courses for transfer students??

A. Our most competitive students will have completed all of the prerequisite courses.

Q. I am an international student who will be graduating with an A.A degree from community college next spring semester and is eager to transfer to NYU stern for next Fall term in 2010. Unfortunately, I will not be able to complete Calculus 1 until Summer A, which is from Mid-May til the end of June.

Therefore, my primary concern is would my application be treating as less competitive or even dissatisfying the requirement.

A. We will only review courses that students have already taken or are in the process of taking by our application deadline of April 1st for admission to stern. Therefore, summer classes taken after the deadline date will not be considered. Most competitive students will have completed all the transfer requirements before applying.

Hey guys! I applied as I transfer last year, so I just thought I’d pop in and recommend you look up last year’s thread and read the last few pages. NYU lost an astounding number of our transcripts (every other schools received mine), and didn’t let any of us know until after they had already begun accepting students. Try to get your apps in as early as possible, so that they’re more likely to be filed correctly. I got the feeling their admissions office was pretty understaffed–I was once on hold for over two hours.

I don’t want to sound bitter–I just wanted you all to have the info so you can plan ahead and hopefully avoid our problems. Good luck to everyone here! Transferring is a tough process, but for many of us, it’s worth it.

Okay, I met with my advisor and there is no way that I can take Calculus 1 in the spring semester since I have to complete one more math course before being eligible for it. However, I can take Intro to Calculus. Can this fulfill the requirement, or at least be better than not having done any Calculus? I am asking this because students who have doe Intro to Calc can straight away take Calculus 2 after that, skipping Calculus 1.
'

To be honest I don’t think it would meet the requirement. However if you took Calc II then I believe you would of have satisfied the math requirement.

Have you tried talking directly with your math teacher or department head? My school is very similar to yours where you must meet certain requirements to take certain courses. However some students have bypassed this by talking to their professors and seeing if they can be enrolled in their class anyways.

Hmmm… That’s a good idea. I shall try to talk directly with the department heads, although I’ll do that next semester cos for now, there’s nothing else I can do and I shall try and keep my GPA as high as I can.

In any case, if I were to fulfill all requirements, or all except statistics (UMiami doesn’t have a basic stats course, it’s one of the last courses you take, in either junior or senior year), how would you rate my chances keeping in mind all statistics.

Stern is definitely the hardest to get into out of all the universities I’m applying to, but it’s the one I want to go to the most! NYU’s been a dream since I first visited the city 5 years ago, but family issues meant that I couldn’t apply there. I think if I’d gone early decision last year, I would have definitely gotten in, cos I don’t require any financial aid. The only change would be housing costs, since I’m living at home in Miami and the tuition is pretty much the same at both schools.

Does anyone know if I have enough EC’s? I’m in the Campus Activities Counsel, Entrepreneurship Club, MBE (Miami Business Enterprises), Big Brothers Big Sisters, Student Government, and I am working on getting a job or two. Outside of school I’ve been a ski instructor for three years (four when I submit my app) and a camp counselor. If I can get somewhere around a >3.6 and some good recs. Would I stand a chance or should I do more stuff? Also I had 3.3 gpa in hs and bad test scores. If I show a significant improvement in my academics will they still look down on my abysmal HS stats? I know I should wait a year and apply as a soph but I HATE where I’m at right now.

It seems that NYU have changed the requirements for a Stern transfer. For a sophomore transfer, it seems that they now only want Calculus, 1 semester of writing and 1 semester of microeconomics.

Which is great, because the only one out of that I won’t be able to fulfill is Calculus, whereas I am fulfilling 3 out of the additional 4 junior transfer requirements. Great news!

So I am reading this right? You have to have calc, writing and microecon done in your first semester or can you be in the process of completing them in when you submit your app?
