@steadyy and Dreambig2012

Stats?

GPA:4.0
Units completed:44
Units in-progress:19
ECs:club, short intern,nothing special.
don’t wanna post sat score, kinda low :p

@steadyy
are you also a junior transfer?

Hi,

Just wanted to get the forums opinion. I have submitted my transfer application to NYU Stern, my future plans include a duel degree JD/MBA program. I am currently a Junior at St. Johns University. I am 19 will transfer as a Junior.

Stats:

Current GPA: 3.3 ; Messed up my freshman year, I have improved my GPA the last two semesters GPA = 3.5 and 3.74. I am on track to receive at least a 3.85 this semester. (St. John’s University, Accounting Major)

Work Experience: I am the president and founder of a accounting and consulting practice based out of Long Island. This is a real business, not some made up company. I employee 3 individuals and the company has revenues over 100k. Built from scratch and I am the sole owner. Besides my company, since the age 8, I have been actively trading securities and a variety of investment products. At the age of 14, I worked for a Financial Advisor, fully interview for the position, not a family friend or a “foot in the door” position. I am also currently in the process of starting a semi hedge fund, I have gathered approximately 50k of investor funding (not family related, actual clients).

Letter: Very Strong

Recommendations: I have professional recommendations from executive directors of businesses and organizations, as well public figures and government representatives.

Volunteer Work: Active participant in local events for chamber of commerce.

Overall, I am not a bookworm, never wanted to be, my high school GPA and SAT’s were average, or par. I preform exceptionally in the fields of Accounting and Finance and Business. I know NYU is known to be very random and they have a “holistic” history of admissions.

What are your thoughts? Do you believe admissions will overlook my dull GPA and look at my overall success as a businessman and my potential for future growth?

Thanks for your comments.

Do any of you know NYU’s stance on affirmative action? Do you think being African American serves as a “hook”?

pretty sure urm serves as a hook to many universities these days.

I agree, URM and first generation college student are pretty standard hooks. And on the college board, it says race is considered.

Does anyone have a ballpark guesstimate of how much one should expect to receive in financial aid if admitted to CAS as a transfer student and an efc of 0?

@underacheevr88
Check the last year’s thread to see what people got?

To everyone else who applied on deadline day, have you received an application acknowledgement from NYU and a NetID?

I finished and submitted by application on Saturday…it says they received it on the commonapp website but I have yet to receive an acknowledgement nor login information to track its status.

I think it takes 2-3 weeks until we get the NetID, right? Thats what ive heard.

@meilleur Yes I am a Junior Transfer as well.

@Tomeu11 My application status also changed to Downloaded, but supplements remained as completed.

@giantmidget
GPA : 3.5
Units Completed : 61
Units in Progress : 11
EC’s : Strong Job Experience in Business, Other Part-time jobs, Lot’s of community service, nothing too special

this one guy i messaged, who is a very recent transfer, said he only got $7200 in scholarships only. sigh…

I submitted my application 2/27, it was downloaded 2/28, and I received my netID 3/9. So it takes them a while, plus they still haven’t processed my HS transcript, it’s the only thing missing from the list.

@Houston818

Exact same thing here, except that I received my netID on the 28th. I think I will have to call them tomorrow to ask about my HS transcripts… anybody got those checked off?

@Tomeu11

My HS transcripts are checked off. My College & HS transcripts were checked off on the same day when I checked. It was about a week ago.

@Loolala

Good to know, so is your app. complete?

Ive applied for the transfer process, what if my GPA at the time of having to send the transcripts isnt to great but i have pending grades that will bring it up. Is that a big problem? Im really worried lol

With my school I was given the option to hold the transcript until the grade for certain classes were posted. If you’ve already sent the transcript there’s nothing much you can do now except send in midterm grades
