Official NYU 2012 Transfer Thread

Hi guys! I applied for 2012 spring transfer for the school of education in Steinhardt. It is probably a large reach for me, and I probably won’t be able to afford it, even if by small chance I do get accepted. My sister is applying as a freshman for fall 2012 to Tisch and I think it would be awesome if we both lived in NYC. I just know I have to get out of Florida because it is not a good state for education and they don’t pay their teachers very good :frowning: Here are my stats:

Florida Community College
GPA: 3.74
74 credits at the end of this semester
ACT: not good, didn’t take the SAT
I’m taking 5 classes now, sent in the midterm report, all A’s
Essays: they were decent, probably average, but I was really specific in talking about their teaching curriculum and how it fit with my attitude towards teaching, etc.
ECs: I had some good ones that really relate to my chosen field, i.e. teacher’s assistant, and assistant cross country coach. I was a competitive figure skater for over eleven years, competed at the highest level. I coached figure skating for Special Olympics too. I am learning sign language and go to Deaf chats, I was also a rape crisis advocate for a short time.

Good luck everyone!

bump 10 char

Applying to CAS.

College GPA: 3.785
HS GPA: 3.4/4 UW
SAT: 2090/2400

Hoping I get in!

I might apply to Stern as an incoming sophomore. But i don’t know if i should… I don’t want to waste my money to apply if I don’t have a decent chance of getting in. My 1st semester GPA’s 3.82. Kinda low… Hs GPA is probs ~3.7 unweighted (slacked off during senior year…). ACT is okay but not great (32). ECs are alright. My biggest concern is the recs. I don’t have any professors i’m close to. But since the deadline is in April, i’m wondering if it’s possible to get a rec from my 2nd semester profs. I’m lost. Any comments guys?

I want to apply transfer for CAS fall 2012, I’m a psych major at PSU

HS GPA - 3.5
SAT superscore is 1960
College 1st semester GPA 3.93
Boxing club and guitar club
I know my phil teacher’s pretty well so I will ask for the rec, I’m taking a course of hers for the second consecutive semester
Hooks: Spanish international student(?)
I will have 45 credits by the end of my freshman year.

I think I’m going to ask my writing and public speech professor to give me feedback on the responses and the essays, I know my HS GPA and my college ECs aren’t that great(they were better in HS) and I hope my rec is above average, it should not be impossible should it?

Anyone know how difficult it would be to transfer from Poly?

anyone going this spring?

My chances at Stern

What are my chances for NYU stern? I know my high school stats are way below par, but how important are my post HS credentials compare to those? I really need some advices. Thanks in advance

I’m an NYU Spring 2012 transfer and I’ve just finished my second week at NYU. If anyone has any questions about the transfer process feel free to PM me or post a question here (aid, transfer credits, requirements, what’s important etc…). CC definitely helped me when I was applying and I told myself if I get accepted I’d come here and try to help others…so…here I am.

Some stats…

Previous College:
GPA: 3.78 (when applied) 3.83 (after final grades)
Major: Biology
Applied To: CAS (Biology)
ECs: Very very few

Hi, we basically have the same stats!

I want to apply as a biology major as well. Could you tell me my chances?

Currently a sophomore in a 4 yr private university. I was a pharmd. D major my first three semesters but changed to biology because I really want to become a doctor (took a big chance there!).

High School-
96.63 gpa weighted/94.4 not weighted- upwards trend
Bad SAT scores- 650/670/650
I do not want to send my ACT scores
6 AP courses, 1 college course and the rest are honors
LOTS OF EC’s- president of clubs, 2 honor societies, basketball, volunteered, drama, etc…

University- St. John’s/ pharmd then biology
GPA- 3.8, downwards because I really wasn’t interested in the courses. One bad grade while others are A’s. The bad grade isnt a science or math course.
Part of many organizations, peer educator, volunteer at a hospital and animal shelter, research, etc…
deans list and other honors

do we have to send in a mid year report from our current schools? or is the first transcript enough?

You don’t have to.

they said we do when i called them o.O

In the CAS information page they say that their acceptance rate is somewhere around 10-15% and that competitive applicants would have a 3.7 GPA, but I guess that all freshmen transferring, that includes me, should have something higher if their high school record was not that great.

I’m worried that my first quarter GPA will be my downfall. As a senior in high school, I would have had a very good chance at getting into the school, but my first quarter in college I only have a 3.4 GPA. Hopefully they put more emphasis on my high school record. I really regret not doing more research on potential schools in high school.

Hi everyone I don’t know if I should transfer for Gallatin or Media, Culture, Communications @ Steinhardt :S help! I know I want to work in the media or entertainment industry but I do want to explore writing options and I like the individualized attention @ Gallatin + taking business courses. I dont have THAT good ECs though :stuck_out_tongue: Here are my stats!

McGill University
GPA: 3.74/4.0 First Semester,

Extracurricular Activities:
•MUN Staffer
•Internship with a media marketing expert (run social media)
•Starting an online video production

High School
90/100
AP & IB: School did not offer.

No SAT/ACT

Extracurricular Activities
•Rugby player, assistant coach of junior team
•Senior editor of school paper
•Minister of Public Relations for school committee
•School news announcer
•MUN delegate
•Camp counselor
•Muay Thai
•+Volunteering

your ECs make you a better fit for Steindhart, but that is just my opinion, it is not that they are bad… they are just not mmm Gallatin oriented if you know what I mean

anyone submitted the commonapp so far?
