Hey guys, I’m planning to transfer to NYU next year if I don’t get in RD and I just wanted to ask if they will accept my SAT score if I retake it now in may. My SAT score is a 1900 but I might be able to hit 2000 if I retake it. So should I retake it or does NYU not consider it/not accept it?

@Loolala

Stern. I applied last year as well, but didn’t get in.

@Mango15
I’m not quite sure. Your best bet would probably be to call them to get an accurate answer

I applied my freshmen year, but I didn’t get in. So nervous! What do you think matters more? GPA or Essay/Supplements?

@Loolala

Both. NYU is really selective and I think that an application lacking in either department is unlikely to lead to success.

I’m so nervous too! Went through this whole process last year and now having to do it again. Two more months to go!

@giantmidget

Yeah! Did you apply already? I heard that NYU does rolling based admission for transfers, is that true? If you apply early-mid March, do you find out your results in mid April? And sorry for all the questions!

My GPA is a 3.98, and I think my essays and supplements are fairly strong. Fingers Crossed Haha

I doubt that it’s rolling, I applied in the middle of January and have heard nothing from them other than my confirmation.

As for the rate I’ve read that it was around 30%, so these 10-15% numbers for Tisch, Stern and CAS make me feel pretty good since I applied to sports management :)

Seriously though, I can’t imagine NYU’s transfer rate ACTUALLY being 10-15%. They may advertise that, but it simply doesn’t make sense. NYU’s freshman retention rate is usually fairly low compared to school’s of similar caliber, it’s really a hit or miss, either you love it or you hate it. Especially in this economy I’d imagine even more students are going to realize a year or two in that the loans they’re paying just aren’t worth it. I can’t speak for NYU but it just wouldn’t make sense to me for their transfer rates to basically get cut in half or more in a year.

I really think the 10-15% numbers thrown out on this thread are baseless. The overall acceptance rates for transfers last year was 29%. It’s kind of hard for me to believe that the biggest schools have rates that low, because that would mean the other schools have to have ridiculously high rates to bring the overall number to 29%.

3.98, eh? That’s really impressive. I have a 3.7. But I think my essays and supplements are really good. I’ve studied abroad at NYU in London, and used my experience there as the basis for my essay.

@hotpotato1092

Wow. You applied in January and still haven’t heard anything other than a confirmation? I wonder if they’re still busy with freshmen apps/decisions. I hope they let us know mid-late April! Do you happen to know if you can get waitlisted as a transfer applicant as well?

@giantmidget

That’s awesome that you got to study abroad in London! I feel pretty confident about my hs/college grades, but who knows. I’m not anticipating anything, because then I’m going to be even more disappointed if I don’t get in BTW. Does your Common App supplement still say “complete” and not “downloaded?” The only thing that says “downloaded” is my application.

@Loolala

Yes, you can get waitlisted as a transfer applicant, and no, they don’t let you know in April. By rolling basis, I think they meant that they don’t let everyone know on a certain date, but as they review applications. That means certain people find out in the first week of May, others on the second. Go through last year’s transfer thread if you really want to know the whole process in detail.

I still haven’t submitted my application, haha. Just fine-tuning the last supplement question. But I suppose the commonapp won’t say downloaded until after the freshman admission process is done, which is April 1st.

I’m trying not too anticipate anything either, but NYU is really the only school out of the five I’m applying to that I want to go to. I’ve made so many friends at NYU in London, and I even visited them in New York a couple of weeks ago, staying in the NYU dorms. I loved it so much!

@giantmidget

I submitted my app on Feb. 24th and it was downloaded on the 27th, just to clear that out. However Albert does take longer to process the materials, the admissions officers told that it will be updated after they are done with the Freshmen as you said.

@Loolala

If you look at last year threads you can count with your fingers the number of people notified in the last days of April… I guess most of us will be notified sometime between 5th and 15th of May. Anyways, I cannot wait as well!!! I’ll be a whole lot relieved by the time they tell me they finally have all my materials tho

@giantmidget

Thanks for your thorough response! I went through last year’s transfer thread, and some people said they found out mid to late April–guess it just depends? Didn’t know the freshmen admission process goes all the way until April 1st!

@Tomeu11

Yeah! I mailed everything out too. Hopefully nothing gets lost! Which school are you applying to? My app is downloaded, but my supplement isn’t. How long did it take for them to e-mail you so you can access Albert?

@Loolala

Don’t worry, my supplement wasn’t downloaded either, just the app. I’m also hoping for my stuff not to have been lost, at least my SATs and else got there already… It takes them about a week after your app was downloaded for you to get your albert account. I’m applying to CAS from a top 50 four year university, you?

@Tomeu11

Are you applying as a soph/junior? Are you sending in your SATs because you have to? I’m also applying to CAS! Good luck to both of us!

@Loolala

I would be an incoming soph, so my SATs were mandatory, what major are you applying to within CAS?

Can I call or email admission office to switch college choice after I hit sumbit?

I applied for Stern(Economics) but I decided to change to CAS Econ instead. There’s no chance I could get into Stern.

@esthersuri

There’s no harm in trying to call.

Why do you think you won’t get in to Stern?

I have a question, can you add something to your application after you’ve sent it in? Because I applied to Sports Management, and since sending in my application I have been writing for Bleacher Report (a sports site) so I feel like that could be a nice boost. Is there any way I can add that to my app?
