Official NYU 2013 Transfer Thread

Open for business, best of luck to all.

Transferring for Fall 2013 from UMass Amherst.

Don’t know what my college GPA is so far, I’m a Freshman. HS GPA was 3.65/4 (actually 4.57/5, but I converted it). I’m an international student so I had 12+ subjects each semester each year of school therefore I don’t think my GPA impairs my chances that much.

Do they require SAT for Fall transfers? I’m re-taking mine in January.

Anyone else transferring for Fall?

Hello Everyone,
Thank you for reading the post. I am currently an undergraduate student of one of the CUNY colleges. I am thinking to transfer to STERN. I will provide my information here and if someone who went through the transferring process and either got accepted or denied to Stern, please advise:

GPA -3.977
Undergraduate Honors Program.
Deans List Recepient.
Member of three student clubs.
Founder and President of 1 student club.
Tutor at the student tutoring center.

Please let me know what are my chances of getting into Stern?
Any advice will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

^ You have a great chance. Your GPA is impressive, as are your extracurricular activities.

I don’t want to disclose the specific school I attend, but it’s a private top 100 (according to US News Rankings) research university. My GPA will likely be a 3.8. My ACT score is a 30 and I am retaking it in February. Do I have a chance at NYU?

Dear Rain202,

Thank You for your reply. I am not familiar with transfer admission as you know, but your GPA is impressive and considering its one of the top 100 schools, I think you have a chance.

Anyone else has anything to say about our chances?
Please advise. Also what do you think about Barugh College Zicklin School?
Is it a good school. Since I think I have a very slim chance of getting into Stern and I live in NY, I was also considering Baruch. Please let me know your opinions. Thanks

I misspelled Baruch College.

Hey Guys-

I will be applying to Stern Finance as a junior Transfer. I was wondering if you guys could possibly chance me? Really appreciate it!

At a top 15-20 Business school; Major: Finance
-College GPA: 3.85 -Taken all of NYU’s Prereqs (Also to note one semester ahead of my finance curriculum)
-Dean’s List, two semesters (roughly top 12%~)
-SAT: Not submitting
-ECs- Strong, interned for an asset management company my sophomore year, and small corporate finance internship my freshman year. Also holds leadership positions in two clubs/ one frat
-Competent knowledge of financial tools: Bloomberg, MatLab, Crystal Ball, Mourningstar, etc

Overall, I’m very nervous as most students I’ve seen with 3.8’s are getting rejected.

Also to note:
-My two B’s are in Calc 2 and one other math course (B+). I know Stern puts heavy emphasis on your math classes which isn’t going bode well…
-I am an Asian male, family income well over need based financial aid.

Thanks!

Hi there! So I know that this is a huge long shot but I’m a communications major at the University of denver looking to transfer. I am mainly looking for more diversity (moving from LA to Denver has been rough)

I know that these schools are insane reaches but I am a strong writer and just thought I would throw it out there, If not Denver is a great place to be .

I am looking at NYU (mcc program), Northwestern, Boston University, Cornell, and UPenn.

my stats are: 3.8 gpa, (dont have to submit my sat scores since I’m transferring as a Junior, and a 3.7 unweighted gpa in highschool.

EC’s I am currently an officer in my sorority, I volunteer 8 hours a week in a 3rd grade classroom, I volunteered with the obama campaign as well as the first debate (which was held at DU), I am in the kayaking club, I had a summer internship doing costuming for movies with Universal Pictures in Los Angeles, and I had a summer job at the Hollywood Bowl. In Highschool I was vice president of 2 clubs, I won the highest community service award at my school, and I was president of my chapter of National Charity League. I was in showchoir in High School and performed on Dancing with the Stars and performed in the 2011 Chinese New year parade in Hong Kong.

I know that the whole thing is a long shot, but I thought I’d give it a try

Im applying to Steinhardt MCC at NYU. I applied to CAS last year, and was denied, but I omitted a lot of my EC’s, did not write essays to my best capabilities, and also had average recommendations, because I never became besties with any of my teachers.
Chance me?

Asking for recommendation letter from professor in Radio and Television class, where I took a lot of leadership roles, wrote and produced a lot of assignments that he thoroughly enjoyed and he is an NYU Graduate School alum.

**When I sat down with my counselor, she said that every university I apply to will “throw out” the non transferable grades, i.e. anything under 100. This brings up my GPA a little.

Other maybe relevant or irrelevant facts: Female, 21 Southern California Caucasian
Did NYU student tour in March, and will probably do it again next time I’m in NY.

I’m a college freshman in the honors program at a school ranked in the 50’s on a full-tuition scholarship (we pay 15k/yr for room and board, etc), and I didn’t apply to NYU as a high school senior because I heard the fin aid was terrible and I didn’t know that NYU offered merit scholarships. I regret that now since I think NYU would be a better fit for me socially and academically than my current school. I got a 4.0 my first college semester, and I had a 3.9 in high school with a 2340 SAT score. How is NYU with financial aid and merit scholarships for transfer students–any different from other students?

Im a college freshman at Villanova University. first semester i got a 3.8/4 gpa and im involved in french club and student activities committe on campus and i particpated in a day of community service and the special olympics
in highschool i had a 4.31/4 scale i took challenging ap courses and was the president of my class and french honors society and had a lot of other extra curriculars
im applying to steinhardt applied psychology for fall 2013… anyone know my chances?

I am currently a freshman at Michigan State University.

-3.857 GPA
-College Libertarians
-Campaigned for a congressman
-Intramural sports

My high school GPA was only a 3.4 and my SAT scores were rather weak.

I am a freshman at a 4 year college and the town is small and boring so I want a big city.

-HS GPA ~3.6 (Never had lower than a B before)
-SAT’s are weak 570’s on all 1710 total
-Varsity XC for 4 Years and Varsity softball for 4 years
-College GPA 3.9
-Dean’s List
-Teacher’s Assistant

I’m applying to CAS as an English major. Chance?

Hi,

Not sure how to do this or if I’m allowed to do this but thinking of recording and uploading a podcast with my friend answering some common transfer questions. We both applied to transfer to NYU as juniors and got in, he accepted an offer from Georgetown but I’m here at Stern. Haven’t recorded it yet, and not sure if I’m allowed to upload it but if this project does get completed, I think it can help answer a lot of questions. We’ll try to get this completed before March rolls around, cause that’s when a lot of transfer apps are due.

@josephyang

That sounds awesome and I would greatly appreciate that. Georgetown and Stern are both schools that I am certainly applying to.

I have a 3.7-3.8 GPA at a school similarly ranked to NYU (~T30). My cumulative unweighted GPA in HS was a 3.8 and I scored a 2160 on the SAT + two 700+ on SAT IIs. Got As in both prereqs for Sophomore transfer (although its only Calc and Writing lol). I applied to NYU Stern for freshman admission but was wait-listed. Really hoping I am a little more fortunate this time around.

Do you guys count nyu poly as a part of nyu yet? if so that it is where I am trying to transfer to.

do you have to apply to NYU-Poly separately? I thought they offer you a place if you don’t get into NYU but they think you’re a good fit for Poly

Ya I applied to poly I have no interest in going to NYU besides poly. it is a wonderful science and engineering school but it is hard.

I wish they had a neuroscience major or at least biology (not molecular) :frowning: It seems a bit easier to get into than NYU

Applying to their Philosophy Department. I’m more than a little nervous because it’s ranked #1 in the country. I have all A’s in my Phil. courses but I’m not coming from a top 20 school, so I don’t know how much that matters. Good luck, everyone! :)
