Official NYU 2013 Transfer Thread

^ Nice extracurricular activities. I think you have a good chance if you have written compelling essays.

Our stats are quite similar (though I’m apply to CAS economics)
ACT: 30
College GPA: 3.75

@kimm328

I actually have the same stats as you and I am applying to the same program, except I’m trying for the spring of 2013. I am also a freshman in a similarly ranked school and have a 3.8 gpa. Small world. However, my high school gpa and sat scores aren’t as impressive, which is why I am waiting until I have more credits to apply. I think you have a great chance at being accepted considering your credentials.

Good luck and post NYU’s decision so I can stop worrying. Haha

Transferring for fall of 2013 from a top 100 liberal arts college

HS gpa: 2.57 (I had a really bad freshman and sophomore years, and wrote an explanation as to why my GPA is so low. Went to a top private school and have a LD)
ACT:29
Extras: Model UN, Lacrosse (and coaches award), ceramics award, lots of long term community service both during the school year and over the summer (both local and abroad), Jewish Student Union.

College GPA: 3.2 (hopefully higher- mid term grades haven’t come in yet b/c I got a concussion right before midterms and missed a few weeks of school)
Extras: walk on lax team, hillel, applied and was accepted for a short term study abroad program

Hoping to study global public health/ International Relations.

Guys! Has anyone checked the application tracker? Mine says my HS and college transcripts weren’t received yet all other schools I’m applying to got them. Also their website mentions nothing about LORs, COR and other stuff. Ugh.

^ that’s what my portal says as well.

Also, does NYU require the Midterm Report? Their website says nothing about it, but I guess they still need it.

I would send it if your midterm grades are equal to, or higher than your first semester GPA. If the website doesn’t state you need to send it, then it’s most likely not required. But if you have good grades, then it’ll strengthen your application.

Please let me know whats are my chances…

I am an international student transferring from American University in DC. I am sophomore now, so they will see 3 semesters of grades as well as 2 classes that I toke over the summer. HS GPA: 4 , American University GPA is 3.8, TOEFL: 97

Applying for CAS

Not many EC’s but I started a new clubs in AU and I am also a member of other 2 clubs.
Strong recommendation and OK essays. Not sending SAT (not a requirement)
What do you think?

Still undecided whether I should apply or not for stern/comm.
3.6 gpa for 64 units from top 30 business week university. School Ambassador, Resident Housing Assistant, School Paper Writer, School Blogger, School TV Staff, 2 Sport NCAA D1 Athlete. I feel my letter of Recs would be my weak point since my classes are surprisingly big this semester…

Guys, for those of you who already submitted all the materials

Does the website marked all the items as received?
I submitted mine a little more than a month ago but the website doesn’t have them checked off yet
I was wondering how long should I wait before emailing them or start freaking out…

(Sorry my english, not a native speaker…)

I don’t really understand their website =/

It shows they are processing my HS and College transcript, but I submitted about a month ago and it is still not checked off…
But it doesn’t even mention the letters of recommendation in there…

Is everyone in the same situation?

Did you all submit the secondary school report from your high school counselor? It says here that it’s required: Instructions
I find it really weird that they require that for transfer students…

Is it worth applying to Stern? Right now I have a 3.6 and I know that’s on the low end for stern. Really messed up my first semester (Parents were getting separated…mentioned it in additional info, and took all blame for my mistake), but I’ve basically received 4.0s since then (3.8-didn’t do well in an art class…, 4.0, and a 4.0 on my midterm report).

I’ve had a couple internships, my most recent was with a high frequency trading firm in Manhattan (have a very good recommendation from employer). My ECs are kinda weak. A few community service events, club lacrosse, and a business club.

Can someone honestly tell me if its worth applying to Stern. I know it couldn’t hurt, but I want to be realistic…should I just apply to CAS as an econ major?

**
-Coming from a ranked 4 year, Not top 25.
-Great grandfather received PHD from NYU (Philosophy) lol…not sure if it counts as legacy, but I didn’t see anywhere on the supplement to mention legacy?

filmandwriting, I emailed them and they told me you have to submit it, unless you have been out of high school for three years or more (which is my case).

ronaldot, I wish I could say something but I’m not familiar with Stern =/ anyway, good luck for you! I find NYU so unpredictable, some folks with 3.8 or higher were not accepted last fall, so it’s hard to say anything…

For those of you who already mailed them most of the materials required, does the website shows them as received?

I’m really concerned why mine is not checked off since i sent everything about a month ago :S
And I don’t really like keep emailing or calling them, since they aren’t that helpful (or polite, sometimes…)

Hey guys,
I’m sorry if this question has been asked before… but I am a little confused on how I am supposed to send in my materials. Do I send my Secondary School Report, Instructors Evaluation etc. in a large envelope my mail? Also, Can I send my transcripts (College and High School Online? Or do they have to be sent by mail?) Im getting really nervous and would appreciate everyones help.
Thank you!

Kadotab, as a transfer student, all the required materials are send by mail.
Print out the secondary school report and the instructors evaluation, have these filled out and send by mail to NYU.
Your college and high school transcript and the college report should also be send by mail in an envelope.
I believe the only thing completed online is the Common application and the NYU supplement.

–

Does anyone know if we have to send our mid-term?

Only if NYU Stern was ok with Business Calc I would’ve applied =[ Oh well … What a waste of a CCC 4.0 GPA … =[ Good Luck To You All !

@Transfer2013 I have the same issue. I’m taking business calc this semester, but they require calc I. I wonder how strict they are on these prereqs (might give them a call tomorrow)…it seems like they expect even more from junior transfers.

@ronaldot Good Luck I called them about a year or half a year ago … NO EXEPTIONS x] oh well USC Leventhal is way better for accounting anyways. Let me know what they say !
