This admission opens up a whole new discussion regarding where to go: NYU, American, Syracuse, or Mizzou.

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: gpa, extracurriculars
[] Weaknesses: Difficulty of senior schedule
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I really can’t pinpoint any specific reason, especially since I was put into LSP. Evidently, I fit NYU’s criteria.
[/li]

[/ul]General Comments: Although I may not have gotten into my first choice major, I am just so incredibly happy to get into NYU  For me, it’s between NYU and one other school I got into, so I have quite the difficult choice ahead of me. Good luck to everyone who applied, and best of luck to everyone in this insane college process that is luckily coming to a close!

[/ul]Reflection[ list]
[] Strengths: GPA, somewhat SAT score, Work experience, Living in India
[] Weaknesses: Physics: Had an F one semester due to non-physical conflict with teacher
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: The only reason I can think of is the F. Otherwise everything else I did pretty well: I’m a full IB Diploma candidate, have a strong GPA and decent SAT score. I’m a bit outraged because I know people who have far worse qualifications than I have gotten accepted because they didn’t apply for financial aid.[/li][/list]General Comments: The American University System is pretty stupid. I think I deserve to be a bit angry about my rejection haha, but congratulations to all those who did get accepted

[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to Colby College and Franklin&Marshall[/li]Rejected from Columbia, Yale, Bowdoin, Barnard

General Comments: So excited!!! I’m probably going to end up going here

I couldn’t get the format to work, sorry!

Decision: Accepted: LSP (Applied Gallatin)

Objective:

 • ACT: 30
 • Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.8
 • Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 25%
 • AP (place score in parenthesis): AP Lit (4) and APUSH (4), my school doesn’t offer many APs.
 • Senior Year Course Load: AP Macro, AP Psych, 2 English electives, Physics, Humanities Research III honors (like science research), 1 Social Studies elective, French 4, PE

Subjective:

 • Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): A LOT of music stuff, as I had planned to be a music major up until like a year ago. Played harp for 4 years, bass for another 4, played at some big venues in NYC like Lincoln Center, took music theory lessons, got a full merit based scholarship to continue studying at my music school. I was in several clubs, nothing big. My brother also has several disorders so most days I have to stay home and watch him because my mom works full time.
 • Job/Work Experience: Cashier at a supermarket for summer of 2012
 • Volunteer/Community service: 30+ hours at the local community center, 10+ hours at Food Bank.
 • Essays: Strong. I thought I showed a clear vision as to what I wanted to study and why I wanted to attend NYU at the NYC campus.
 • Teacher Recommendation: One of them was pretty strong and the other one was okay.
 • Counselor Rec: Probably pretty good - we get along and she knows me well.

Other

 • Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes, got basically nothing.
 • Intended Major: Individualized Major
 • State (if domestic applicant): New York
 • Country (if international applicant):
 • School Type: Public
 • Ethnicity: Latina
 • Gender: Female
 • Income Bracket: Middle class? (definitely not lower, definitely not upper)
 • Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): Humanities Research - 3 years long, a lot of extra work, basically a smaller individualized major.

Reflection

 • Strengths: I am very familiar with the school, I took a 3 year long honors research course at my school which would have been great for Gallatin , I have a lot of music credentials, and my writing is strong.
 • Weaknesses: I forgot to submit a sample of my Humanities work which would have boosted my credibility, a lot of kids from my school apply to NYU (32 did this year), and my scores were good, but not fantastic.
 • Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think they took me to LSP because there were several other applicants from my Humanities class who were probably stronger than I am in a lot of ways. Given my lack of ECs and my comparatively light course load, it makes sense that I wasn’t accepted to my top choice college.

General Comments: Although I’m really really happy I got accepted, I probably won’t be attending NYU because of the terrible financial aid they gave me (literally only $1k, when my dad is unemployed, our house went into foreclosure, and our credit is ruined). I was expecting it to be bad, but not THAT bad. I can’t afford to take out over $55k in loans, and NYU doesn’t have much incentive to make me attend because a) LSP, and b) there are plenty of people who can and will borrow that money to go to NYU. I’m a little disappointed, but I got a full scholarship to Hunter so I’ll still be in NYC while getting a good education. Congratulations to everyone that was accepted, and good luck to all future applicants!

**Decision: Accepted - Stern **

[] Strengths: founder of school mag, good rec’s, my origins, I am proficient in 4 languages
[] Weaknesses: no awards, only few ec’s (in Germany it is considered a lot haha)
[li] Why you think you were accepted: I guess I am a good “overall package” haha and clearly showed my passion for business.
[/li]

[/ul]General Comments:
I initially didn’t think I’d receive a n y financial aid because all other universities I applied to wouldn’t give me no money at all! I love that NYU is really need-blind and not discriminating against intl students. I am looking forward to seeing you guys!

[] Strengths: Standardized testing
[] Weaknesses: Everything else
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Literally everyone from my school gets accepted but I think I had pretty much the stats of the average NYU student.[/li][/ul]General Comments:
Can’t choose between NYU and Wellesley. NYU only gave me ~30k in scholarship and Wellesley gave me ~40k in need aid but location and everything…agh! I don’t know what to do :(

[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Good overall stats[/li][/ul]General Comments:
Probably won’t be attending Stern…I’m really surprised I got in because my supplement showed little passion. I’m not very interested in working for a company right after graduation so it won’t be a great fit for me.

Decision: Accepted - LSP (New York)

[] Summer Activities: UVA Young Writers Workshop, aforementioned volunteer work, aforementioned Creative Writing site
[] Essays: Commonapp essay was well-written but I think the topic was rather generic. I liked my NYU ones more.
[] Teacher Recommendation:I’ve only gotten to read one of them, and it was very good. The other one was from a teacher who I’ve been very close to so I assume it was good as well, but I can’t say for certain. The teacher assured me that “my recommendation will get you into any school you apply to.”
[] Counselor Rec: I’d only known my guidance counselor for two months when she wrote it (she was a new hire this year) so the rec was probably generic.

[] Strengths: SAT and thats it
[] Weaknesses: supplement essays for sure, that was pure garbage
[li] Why you think you were waitlisted: supplement essays were just crap[/li][/ul]General Comments:

You should write your essays early and ask them to consider you for another school as well just in case or you’ll end up like me, having to go to a school across the country over one you should’ve gotten into that you can see from your highschool stadium. **** me.

First post because I’ve been on CC from time to time and thought that it was really helpful going through the college admissions process, so I thought I should make a post for future applicants <3

[/ul]General Comments:
Really excited to go to Stern! Feels good to have my future set… haha. For future applicants, don’t worry if you keep getting rejected at first. I got rejected from a bunch at first, and now I’m choosing Stern over USC, mostly for the job security and living in NYC, one of the most vibrant cities in the world =)

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: SAT, audition, interview, decent EC’s
[] Weaknesses: GPA, possibly essay, short resume, can’t dance
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I must have had a very good acting audition as well as engaging interview.
[/li]

[/ul]General Comments:
Still shocked that I got in… Just wow… Having been rejected/waitlisted by theater schools that are not as artistically or academically demanding, I really was not expecting acceptance from this one (my big reach!). I either must have rocked my interview and monologues or NYU must be more forgiving of individual weaknesses (maybe because the school is so huge and selective…)

after getting rejected from a bunch of other schools i wasn’t sure if i would get in, or have enough scholarship to pay for the school, but surprising NYU wasnt stingy with their FA package. now im deciding between NYU, Villanova, Brooklyn Macaulay, and Sonybrook

[] Strengths: SAT I, senior year course load, EC focus, growth throughout high school
[] Weaknesses: GPA, course rigor before senior year, lack of tangible leadership roles in ECs,
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My senior year has been indicative of what I’m really capable of, and I think NYU focused on that. If you can show growth in your application, your case will be strong![/li][/ul]General Comments: Not sure if I will be attending. Although NYU is stellar for macroecon, the school is nowhere near as financially feasible for me as UConn is. Also, I wasn’t a big fan of the area when I visited, and the student body seems very stratified. Probably going to decide after the weekend in Washington Square
