oh and NO FA Change

@krayane1‌
What time did you receive your notification?

@ronaldo10‌ Ahh, that’s terrible! Your application is obviously impressive. I’m sure other colleges would be glad to have you!

Also, guys: many studies show that Asian Americans are discriminated against in the college application process. This is rooted in racist attitudes in the US. We are a very diverse race with varying socioeconomic circumstances and educational opportunities. Yet, many colleges expect us to all score very highly, and even when we do, “the definition of meritocracy used by white people is far more fluid than many would admit, and that this fluidity results in white people favoring certain policies (and groups) over others.”

https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2013/08/13/white-definitions-merit-and-admissions-change-when-they-think-about-asian-americans

http://www.northwestern.edu/newscenter/stories/2013/06/opinion-latimes-chen-affirmative-action.html

https://books.google.co.th/books?id=R_t3yQiWKQEC&pg=PA246&lpg=PA246&dq=asian+americans+and+standardized+testing+asian+american+issues&source=bl&ots=sQfN525ggY&sig=weoDR4VWUOPcZcZ2IHwGZIcNw9I&hl=en&sa=X&ei=0MndVPiiHpaTuASymYKYBA&ved=0CCEQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=asian%20americans%20and%20standardized%20testing%20asian%20american%20issues&f=false

I’m not starting a debate. But please don’t dismiss ronaldo10’s very valid concerns about a serious issue that many Asian Americans face.

Anyway, good luck to you all! We’ll get through this! :smile:

@VandaAree‌

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Stupendous common app essay as well as supplement essay, good G.P.A, IB Diploma Candidate, and diversity in activities
[
] Weaknesses: Low SAT scores
[] Why you think you were accepted: For my common app essay, I talked about my time/experience volunteering for the hospice patients, which in my opinion, tied in very well with what I wanted to major in (hospitality). For my supplement essay, I wrote a very touching and passionate essay describing my passions for pursuing a career in hotel management.
[
] Where else were you accepted: Rutgers University and Penn State

[/ul]**General Comments: I never actually thought that the day would come where I would be filling out one of these. To be quite honest, it’s not ALWAYS the scores that gets you in. I’m not saying that you should completely neglect the SAT’s or ACT’s (definitely try VERY hard on those), but I honestly think it’s important to stress a LOT on how well you write the essay. The essay, I think, was the biggest asset in my acceptance and therefore believe that a strong and passionate essay is one of the most essential factors in getting considered for admittance. **
